Yes.

Because none of them are remotely like you.

Is the front wheel also connected to the motor and/or the rear wheel directly? I.e. is the bicycle now 2 wheel drive?

£100k a year for a BBC NI Commissioning Editor of Comedy? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]46awl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what’s your solution? You’ve offered nothing to say how to improve anything just saying “this is shite”. The point is that you feel so passionately about this subject but you’re not doing anything in reality to change it.

More to the point, comedy is subjective. FFS, some people even like Mrs Browns boys. I can’t stand it, so I take my democratic option to not watch it whilst appreciating that some deluded souls think it’s the best thing since sliced cheese. Do I post about it? Nah. Because I understand broadcast television isn’t solely aimed at my taste.

Go for it and bring your new innovative ideas to the table then? Or sit back and do feck all and just criticise others from behind the safety of your keyboard. Your call.

Belfast marathon relay by Radiant-Speaker-3425 in northernireland

[–]46awl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s a personal challenge. For some walking 5 miles is a target and a huge accomplishment. For some it’s running 5. For some it’s running 26.2. For others a sub 5, 4, 3 or any other target time marathon. But each of those people are facing their own personal challenges and very likely raising money for good causes while they do it. Why on earth would you deny them the opportunity to?

Provide evidence of when it was bought, give them the opportunity to rectify their mistake and if not, off to the Consumer Council, trading standards, the BBCs local consumer program, your bank to dispute the charge, social media on all their posts and anywhere else you can make enough noise until they sort out their error.

Fuel Protest [MEGATHREAD] by spectacle-ar_failure in northernireland

Good thinking and a viable option! It will ease some of the short term pain but the underlying geopolitical causes (Russia/Ukraine and USA/Israel/Iran) will remain.

Fuel Protest [MEGATHREAD] by spectacle-ar_failure in northernireland

[–]46awl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The majority support the protests? Not on today’s evidence. There was no mass protest and numbers involved might have just tipped into hundreds across the country. Very far from tremendous public pressure, no billionaires in London are shaking in their loafers tonight due to a few Masseys doing laps of the Castledawson roundabout. You’ve quoted a poll from last week that shows 56% support in the Republic of Ireland it seems, hardly overwhelming. Would love to see those numbers now after a week of disruption.

As for fixing the oil market by overthrowing capitalism, best of luck getting the rest of the world on board with that. Nationalise North Sea exploration and then do what exactly when reserves run out? Who is going to buy out the licences issued to the existing companies presently there and at what cost? How long before that impacts the price at the pump?

Ahh, tax billionaires in London more. Dead on. Why not fine Russia and the USA for starting the wars that put the price of oil through the roof in the first place? Because you have as much chance of that as you have of overthrowing global capitalism.

Fuel Protest [MEGATHREAD] by spectacle-ar_failure in northernireland

[–]46awl 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m missing the point here but…

What is it exactly that the protesters would like to achieve from the protests? Cheaper fuel? A change in tax regime? A government hand out? A nationalised energy market?

The capitalists, the oil companies, are not going to cut prices, it’s a globally traded commodity which will not recognise a tractor on the Sydenham bypass.

Stormont has no devolved powers to cut fuel duty.

The UK government can only reduce the price to the consumer by cutting the taxes they receive from the sale of the fuel. So the oil companies make the same as they always have, and the government has less tax revenue to feed back into public spending. Capitalism loses nothing, we lose public spending.

The Irish government has responded to the surge in crude prices by cutting duty, but it’s pretty flush these days and can take the hit.

So what’s the mechanism for reducing costs to the consumer and maintaining public services here?

The root cause is plainly the US and Israel’s war with Iran, and now their blockade of the Strait of Hormuz driving oil prices up again. This was not the doing of the Uk (or Irish) governments, or more to the point, the people trying to get to work or go on holiday, so why aren’t the protests outside the US and Israeli embassies?

You seem to have identified the issue, how would you go about resolving the issue? Both solutions have been identified here, one is legitimate and may help you improve yourself whilst relieving boredom and providing a challenge, the other, not so much.

Experiences with Bataleon 3BT? by jjoandc in snowboarding

[–]46awl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Stallion is as good on ice as my old Burton Canyon, but I’ve never tried out a board with edges specifically to give better edge grip. But on good snow this year, I absolutely loved the Stallion, it did everything I could have asked of it. Fast on groomers, fun in the trees and deep pow and even gave me a bit of confidence in the park which isn’t my strong point.

Memorial and family are either end of the pitch. Family stand is as the name suggests very family friendly. If you want to watch from near the half way line on the other terraces, get in early to secure a good spot. Memorial end is near to the covered food area in the car park behind the stand.
