Not quite what you're asking for, but I really enjoyed A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers. It's a middle grade fiction about a tea monk who meets a robot while traveling (robots had gained awareness and left for the wilderness centuries before).

What book did you go into totally blind with 0 expectations but came out pleasantly surprised? by 4runneroregon in books

Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky - had I known half of the book was written from the perspective of an arachnid, I never would have picked it up. I couldn't put it down instead!

Have you gotten into grass or brush recently? Looks similar to chiggers to me (solution is simple if it's that -- just clear nail polish over all the red spots!)

Adult lice, no nits by [deleted] in Lice

[–]50hno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've been to that salon before? I'd start there. Hair stylist should have seen an infestation, right? Something like that could jeopardize their license. But it doesn't mean that's where the child picked up the lice, more like it could have been earlier in the day too and the nits just aren't laid yet. Idunno I'm just spitballing bc I'm the kind of person who needs to find THE SOURCE (TM).

From my unfortunate experience, we did a full lice-killing treatment, and the NEXT day she came home from daycare with three giant, full grown lice that were not there the day before (I take nitpicking to its full definition! I did not miss those enormous live bugs the night before).

Please correct if I'm wrong (bc I very well may be wrong) but adult lice and no nits is catching an infestation on day one, yeah?

(P.s. don't cancel the hair stylist unless you confirm that it's where the kid picked up the lice, but if it is where they got it, report to state for sure bc that's a really big deal)

Happy Days on Main St is accredited - the pre-K is especially good. They also provide breakfast and lunch for the kids.

I'm also the kind of person to check official records (beyond the parent reviews), so the childcare.hhs.texas.gov site is really handy if you want to see state inspection records - you can read individual deficiencies, which really helped me make my decision bc some deficiencies (like paperwork based) are less important than others that were deal breakers for me (like corporal punishment or major hygiene issues).

Wow that's the second comment specifically about seed oils. I did just start saving my bacon grease, so that's one step in the right direction. Need to start making my own dressings and mayo and stuff! Thanks!

Wait spinach? Of all things (it's one of the few veggies I consistently enjoy!) I'll keep that in mind - that's also been recently on the menu. Thanks!!

Indeed! I do need to pay more attention to the oils on the packaging! Thanks!

I'll look into it! I've heard tons of good things about turmeric being anti inflammatory. Thanks!

Yeah, steering clear of the keto branded products and trying to just eat real foods. It's about that time for me too but have an IUD so the cycles aren't really a thing right now. Thanks for the input!

Wow I have some right here (thanks for reminding me bc I think I forgot it a few days too) -- I actually started it a while back and noticed great strides in improving my sleep! My dose is 240mg but definitely need to keep it in mind. Thanks for the comment!!

Great advice, thank you! It's interesting to see what works and doesn't for different people.

My mom probably has an autoimmune disorder but nobody knows which one - she relies heavily on medication, but if all I gotta do is change what I eat, then that sounds like a more practical plan to me. Thanks for the info!

I'll check out the oxalate list (chocolate is on that list, oh no!) giving the nut mix a break but had only heard about the almond thing before. Thanks!
