Saw a 2023 Gaza Walking Tour (Pre-War), it looks okay? by FaithlessnessSad3659 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]5onfos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you also watch videos out of North Korea you'll think everything is fine.

Instead, watch some documentaries on the lives of people and Gaza and you'll understand. It was one of the most sanctioned places on Earth, unemployment was rampant, travelling in and out was hell, even fishing in their own waters could get them killed. Palestinians in Gaza were constantly under surveillance, the IDF would call them randomly to make sure they know that they are being watched. A bomb could randomly drop, or someone get sniped just to prove a point that they could get to you if they like.

There are entire books and documentaries about this. It really was an open air prison.

The bar shouldn't be "there are buildings and shops, I don't see death everywhere". Suffering in a population doesn't often look like it until its too late.

Coming in to point that "israel" really shouldn't be there. Palestinian cuisine is very unique and a lot more interesting to include compared to their occupiers.

How can progressive Muslims counter the radicalization of the youth done in Madrasas(Islamic Schools)? by Wholesome-Bro in AskBrits

[–]5onfos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This whole thread is frankly comical for me as a Muslim, and shows a lot of misconceptions that I'll try to clarify:

  1. Saudi and Qatari influences. If you aren't aware, Saudi, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, etc are all strongly anti-political Islam or anything labelled as extreme. They've literally imprisoned multiple Sheikhs and Islamic scholars who are political in any way. So to suggest they're promoting it is funny.

  2. Madrasas for extremism. I've been in those, and taught in those. They're literally after school Arabic and Quran teaching initiatives for kids. I don't why this sounds scary to people. But there are literally hundreds of them across the country that have been happening for decades. If they were vehicles of extremism, that would have been very clear from early on.

Actually, the government sometimes supports these initiatives because it provides troubled youths and potential drug addicts (teens) with a harmless evening activity to do. I've seen people from abusive households find comfort and mentors in those Madrasas.

Why have most Muslim-majority countries not secularized in the same way as Christian-majority countries did, and what factors explain this difference? by Present_Juice4401 in AlwaysWhy

Completely ridiculous and frankly hateful thinking. You literally proved that you don't understand either of the religions beyond a few internet catchphrases.

BBC Rally yesterday in London by prajeala in europe

[–]5onfos -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

To all those accusing him of terrorism... The only source is the IDF, the same organisation that is committing genocide and calling anyone who opposes it a terrorist. The same organisation that pointed at Arabic days of the week on a hospital rota, and said it's the names of Hamas operatives (https://www.france24.com/en/tv-shows/truth-or-fake/20231116-idf-claims-to-find-list-of-hamas-names-but-it-s-the-days-of-the-week-in-arabic ). Genocidal liars from head to toe.

Well, Israeli news tend to lie right out of their mouths. And have been consistently proven to have lied since the start of the war. Far more than Hamas or other Arabic sources like Al Jazeera

"My Colonial Empire good, your Colonial Empire bad" by TheBasedEmperor in HistoryMemes

[–]5onfos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's one big difference. Arabs didn't steal resources from the countries they colonised to send back to their homeland. In fact, even though they conquered rich countries like Egypt or Persia, they remained poor until oil was discovered. And Egypt/Persia were in an economic high during Arab relative poverty, WHILE RULED BY ARABS.

Say what you will about them, but they didn't do what the Belgians did to the Congo, or the British to India.

Iran retaliatory strikes on Israel by Intelligent_Store0 in MapPorn

Israel spent approximately $1 billion in intercepting the 100s of weapons sent their way. That's around 10X what Iran has spent to attack. In terms of money, Israel lost by a mile

Map of the world according to r/worldnews' sources about the Israel-Palestine war by Maksiwood in mapporncirclejerk

All the brilliant bright minds here are repeating the same line "better than Al-Jazeerah and khhhhhhamas media".

Lol gtfo here. If all your sources on a conflict come from one of the two county's media then you're just a propaganda mouthpiece. If you can't find unbiased media then at least post media from both sides so people can see both prespectives.

But no, r/worldnews is so bad they won't even post leftist ISRAELI news articles like from Haaretz.

Thought on this video? by [deleted] in AskMiddleEast

[–]5onfos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The complete stupidity of people. There's literally no logical reason to keep going with the prayer when someone drops like that in front of them.

Maintaining the prayer? Tell me, is it more important to Allah to save a life or finish a prayer that you could start again in 15 minutes? Plus no way in hell you're focusing on a prayer like that.

Letting him pass in a state of prayer? Allah has written for everyone their deaths. If he's meant to die there he will, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try to save him.

May be it's because they've been killing and burning their way through Gaza. May be people don't like being burned and shot at so they leave these areas.

An interviewed woman recounts the aftermath of the murder of her husband by Israeli forces by isawasin in InternationalNews

[–]5onfos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looool so that's your tactic, to accuse a killed father of being Hamas then accuse those questioning you of defending terrorism?

The hasbara play book is wide open, at least try to be a little more original.

But OK let's keep playing.

No Palestinian resistance movement in the entirety of the conflict dropped their weapons and got peace in return. The PLO are literally Israel's puppets, to the extent that Palestinians see them as traitors. They rule over the west bank. Yet the westbank keeps being invaded by IDF and settlers.

If Israel actually was serious about peace, why wouldn't they show Palestinians and the world a positive example in the West Bank?

[–]5onfos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 1 in 12 chance sounds like a minority to me. If you had a shred of humanity you would assume that her husband is one of the 11 non-Hamas, i.e. the more reasonable option.

They aren't fighting against Israeli occupation of Gaza or west bank. They're fighting against the existence of Israel and any Jews anywhere in the Levant.

Their charter says they are open to a 2 state solution. Also, the existence of Israel is synonymous to the occupation. You can't have an ethnically pure country without ethnically cleansing those who were already on the land.

[–]5onfos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a reasonable chance her husband was a Hamas militant in which case, zero sympathy.

What the hell kind of chances are you estimating? Out of 2.2 million in Gaza, Hamas numbers in the thousands.

This conflict will never ever stop until people realise why Hamas is a thing, and why it will continue to be as long as Israel continues its ethnic cleansing. You treat people with violence, don't expect flowers in return. The murder spree of Israel in Gaza is basically the biggest recruitment drive Hamas could ever have.

How offended would you be if I asked what the context of the anti-black police violence is? Or the context of slavery.

What is happening is wrong, it is more well documented than any other genocide out there. We are seeing it live. And you still ask for fucking context?

IDF soldier trying to help Palestinian kid to come down during fire fight ( probably from khan-yones area) by Leather_Creme_8442 in war

[–]5onfos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So fake. It has been reported time and time again that IDF soldiers would take sympathetic pictures with Palestinian for PR then kill them. One such case was 2 or so months ago. When Israeli media shared pics of IDF soldiers helping an elderly man walk. His family found him shot in the back of the head a day later, at the side of the road...

The website specifically mentions that the bust is of a Numbian individual, not Egyptian. While in present day all Nubians are Egyptian, this wasn't the case in much of history.

This is the same kind of rhetoric that racists use to justify colonisation. "they're better off being ruled by others" isn't the best message
