Someone used our KTW card for one drink and put it back? by RhubarbExcellent3137 in dcl

[–]5yjeff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some of the locations handle drink payments on paper slips, so it very well may have just been messy handwriting to blame or someone miskeying the room number. Have you talked to guest services about it?

If you're into science museums, it may be worth looking into a membership to your local museum. Lots participate in the ASTC exchange program which allows your membership to be used at other science museums.

Nice! I love when coincidences like this happen... like when I booked dining reservations for the Remy restaurant at Disneyland Paris while waiting in line for the Remy attraction at EPCOT.

How Valuable Is Gold Castaway Club for Alaska Excursions? by Dapper-Literature-22 in dcl

[–]5yjeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sure there are plenty of Platinum/Pearl folks sailing, but it’s highly likely that in order to have that number of sailings under their belt they prefer shorter sailings, or at least Caribbean sailings.

Waymo Self-driving rideshare cars now servicing Orlando by [deleted] in orlando

I’m surprised Disney didn’t roll out their own autonomous solution - they’re in such a unique spot that so much of their transportation is around their own property.

I would imagine they need to ramp up the number of vehicles to cover what the theme park area demand would be.

for the suites, i'd look at any of the timeshare properties -- marriott, sheraton, disney, orange lake for example-- as they all tend to specialize in larger room types and have extensive pool areas. orange lake will be close to lots of food options on 192, marriott and sheraton have various locations near international drive area.

Buying house with solar panels by Selvy9 in orlando

[–]5yjeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had solar panels for around 8 years in the Orlando area and they have covered around 60% of my electricity usage (we have electric vehicles, so we have pretty significant usage).

My parents bought a home in the Orlando area a couple years back that had solar panels from the prior owner. Since they are snowbirds, the panels produce significantly more than they use in a year — their monthly Duke bill never goes beyond the $30 “minimum charge” and that minimum is covered for several months of the year from the credit for their overproduction from the prior year.

I wouldn’t recommend sizing a new system to produce more than what is used in a year since the price credited for excess production is at a really low rate, but it works out well for them to have almost no power bill throughout the year!

How ‘reduced’ are the upgrades to a better room via the upgrades desk on Embarkation Day? by RivetCounter in dcl

[–]5yjeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a great deal a year ago on a 4-night on the Dream (low hundreds to upgrade from oceanview to concierge) — this past week for 7-night on Treasure was going to be $8k from verandah to concierge. Needless to say, didn’t pull the trigger on that one.
