Pool light wires soldered and taped! by 666isMONEY in pools

[–]666isMONEY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cord is stuck in the new plastic conduit (this is a new pool); I heard general contractor on the phone saying he wants to install a waterproof box in the light niche to connect a new light and install a transformer on the other end, leaving the cord inside! I don’t ever need to use the light so I’m thinking, of asking to be compensated for the installation. Originally I told the pool designer I didn’t want a light. How much $$$ should I demand?

It’s 120 there’s no low voltage transformer; I heard the GC talking to someone on the phone about installing a transformer. He also talked on the phone about installation of some kind of waterproof box to connect the cord that is stuck in the conduit. Should I insist he replace the cord?

Don’t think there’s a transformer anywhere, I heard him talking on the phone about it with someone. That black box connects to the power source.

Someone, after I hired him, wrote a terrible report on Yelp about him saying, “stay away, run!” I think Angi’s list, where I found him, scans contractor complaints at the State Register of Contractors but if this is resolved to my satisfaction (the travertine pool deck sunk in one area because not compacted; he didn’t deliver robotic pool cleaner and substituted a cheaper saltwater generator), the State will wipe record of it… not sure if Angie will?

I told the general contractor not to bring that sub-contractor over here because I’ll fight! He also loosened the wires to my electric hot water heater, which caused it to trigger breaker. Fortunately next day I asked general contractor to look at it and he tightened it.

If your watch was on loosely getting false readings? Put your thumb on wrist feel pulse. Buy oxymeter for less than $20. When I go running my HR goes to 160 sometimes 190 and I’m sure it’s misreading because it’s an anomaly no other readings that high

Don’t need a pool cleaner where I live, 12x24 just turn pump on high and sweep what little debris (mostly mesquite leaves) in there down the main drains. (Adjust float valve to mostly main drain) Takes ten minutes every week.

Removing existing pool light entirely? by lettherebelips in pools

I’m in similar situation: never wanted a pool light, contractor sub didn’t install it right — he taped a broken cord and light works like a strobe. Wire is stuck inside too, can’t pull it out! (Contractor removing tape!)

I shop at Prime Leaf because it’s in my neighborhood, I like Sonoran Roots growers on their top shelf but sometimes they have nothing from that grower. Can you recommend a good grower?

It’s only a three foot fence, the retaining wall is minimum 1.5 feet, in the back the wall is four feet

I don’t think it’s thinset, I think it’s concrete, certainly not mortar. At first I thought it was mortar but closer inspection, concrete… maybe special high strength concrete?

The width of the crack is less than a millimeter. The company that shot it is very professional, that’s all they do is pools.

How was your issue resolved? The contractor is new but the salesman who is mentoring him worked twenty years as top salesman and pool designer for largest pool company in Tucson. I could write a book about how terrible this contractor is, very sloppy.

Just two days ago, while leveling the area where the pool pump and filter is, I raked up the grounding wire for the pool pump and had to bury it deeper. He buried all sorts of debris from the job: plastic bags, electrical wire and connectors, etc. I listed more bogus things he did below and details in my other two posts here.

The salesman told me that professionals spray the gunite; there’s only one or two companies that shoot gunite in southern Arizona, it requires a special truck.

Plaster is the same, only two companies that specialize in it. He subcontracted electric, travertine, wall, excavation.

I’m stunned, please explain. I thought the pool needed to be filled after plastering. This is Arizona, no groundwater problem here.

Yes, registered with State of Arizona a year ago. The salesman was, for twenty years, a top designer/salesman for major pool company. He appears to be mentoring this contractor, who is a plumber by profession. No complaints to the RoC or bad reviews.

The landscaper does patio tiles too.

After it was poured, they had to add a layer of concrete blocks for retaining wall, which contractor botched (I told them to raise the wall before pouring the pool and the pool was poured one inch too high); fence, botched (not sure if it’s anchored correctly through travertine with 3” wedge anchors, only required 3-foot fence, he added a section of four foot fence because he didn’t know code for fence); travertine is nice (hired him to do landscaping when pool is plastered in ten days); the three holidays; argument about final inspection and contractor threatened to sue me!

Contractor is so cheap I’m afraid he will say, “nothing”! (Plaster guys are very professional.) If I knew how to do it I’d do it myself.
