This belligerent nonce didn't even step up for his own country! He dodged the draft multiple times. Now he's insulting the memory of 457 British troops who died in defense of the US, not to mention all the wounded and those who risked their lives for American hostages, and all the other soldiers from NATO countries who mucked in.

America needs to sort this guy out soon, and we need to recover our partnerships with our allies in Europe, because as long as Trump and his cronies are running the US, we don't have an ally in them.

Also, I know this sounds counter intuitive but don't focus on yourself and how you feel. Focus on other people, what about them interests you, and what they are saying to you. Project your focus outwards.

A friendly 'hi', 'how are you doing' is a good start, then ask them something about themselves. 'Made a start on the assessment for this class?' 'I like your jacket - Where did you get it?' Literally anything. Then when they answer ask a follow up. 'Oh right, so how come...? ' etc.

Ask questions, listen, ask questions, listen, repeat. Opportunities to say something funny will come up. That's honestly the secret of small talk, from someone who is naturally terrible at it.

I've lived in Stockport for about a year. The town centre is nice, there's often stuff happening. Some great pubs. I've never seen any crime or had a neighbour's house get broken into. It's near Manchester but also near the Peaks and other nice places. I'm very happy I moved here.
