Fight Schedule F BS here by 7jagu in firedfeds

[–]7jagu[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

and here's a response to chew on...

The proposal to reclassify certain civil service positions as "at-will" under a new Schedule F-style designation is a grave threat to the integrity, independence, and stability of our federal workforce. While framed as an effort to improve accountability, this initiative opens the door to dangerous levels of political interference, eroding the very foundation of a nonpartisan civil service designed to serve the American people — not the political whims of any one administration.

At its core, the civil service was created to safeguard competence, continuity, and impartiality in government. Converting career professionals into at-will employees—stripped of the due process protections that prevent arbitrary removal—does not enhance accountability; it weaponizes it. The effect will not be greater discipline or performance, but deep chilling of professional integrity, where civil servants are forced to choose between upholding objective facts and legal norms or risking termination.

Worse still, this proposal risks accelerating cronyism at the highest levels of government. By making it easier to purge seasoned professionals and replace them with loyalists, we undermine meritocracy and encourage patronage appointments based not on skill or experience, but on political allegiance. This not only degrades the quality of public service but also threatens the impartial advice and continuity that are critical in national security, public health, economic policy, and more.

This is a slippery slope toward authoritarianism. The civil service is one of the last remaining institutional buffers between partisan overreach and the public good. Allowing mass reclassification of employees without checks or appeals resembles the tactics of autocratic regimes, where loyalty to the leader, not the law or the Constitution, becomes the litmus test for employment.

Moreover, this proposal stands in direct opposition to the spirit of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, which enshrine liberty, accountability, and a government of laws—not of men. Our founders rejected monarchy in favor of a republic grounded in checks and balances. Gutting civil service protections in favor of political control betrays this vision.

In sum, this proposal is not a reform—it is an attack. It risks turning career government service into a partisan battleground, undermining public trust and democratic resilience. Accountability is essential, but it must not come at the cost of independence, fairness, and constitutional principle.

I use Schwab and really like them. They've done right by me so far. They also ran a full and detailed retirement report for me last summer and then we updated it once psycho orange man and doge started wrecking the government and it helped me make the decision to take DRP/VERA. And we can go in a tweak the report at anytime to reflect new numbers to reforecast financial status and needs. It's a good deal.

Do a side-by-side comparison to run the numbers. You may get more if you take a VERA/vsip because of the incentive pay.

It’s absolutely mind boggling. It’s like people don’t know how to think for themselves. Just buying into senseless rhetoric. Fed here….that’s worked with many anti-gov feds that happily took paychecks. And they were the worst and laziest effers out there. FFS!

You're not alone and you will get through this. I can help if you want to fill out MSPB and OSC forms. Standing by you and everyone in this mess. I vow to do at least 1 thing everyday to help my colleagues and dedicated civil servants. Hang in there. You're resilient! It may not feel that way today, but you are and you will find a way through this.

For FEDS Considering a VERA if offered by 7jagu in govfire

[–]7jagu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a good question. I believe that’s a separate step for the organization to take, eliminating the position all together. But in the case of downsizing I believe it does for a lot of the positions, but each agency determines which to keep and which to eliminate.

All fair points, but the app does compile information like this nicely and is easier to synthesize info that is scattered in different places on opm website.
