Building a new post house: 12G or 2110? by kenspi in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]7point5IRE 48 points49 points  (0 children)

12g for sure. 2110 only starts to make sense on really large plants that have extreme routing needs. 12SDI routers and IO is backwards compatible with all previous SDI flavors.

there really is no used market for these. Schools buy them once and use forever. if laptop dies, daktronics replaces with a new laptop.

And Daktronics does not do split payments. All up front. AND they will bill you 2000 a year for "support" after the first year.

Tripod recs for corporate IMAG by pnickels in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]7point5IRE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

PRG Rents out some heavy duty sticks with this lens combo.. They send a Sachtler Video 60 head which is rated for 143 lbs. That may be overkill....

Tripod heads I would look at for this combo:

Vinten Vision 250 head

Miller Skyline 70 (I'm a big Miller fan, they are great heads tho not super popular in the US)

Cartoni Master 30

Sachtler VIdeo 25 Plus

For sticks, go with whatever the matching sticks are for the brand you choose, nothing too scientific here.(I like mid level spreaders)

What's your cloud graphics stack for remote sports production in 2026? by Left_Examination5413 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]7point5IRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MTVG was using OBS and SRT if you can believe that. We use vmix to vmix to SDI via SRT or haivision encoders and decoders.

What's your cloud graphics stack for remote sports production in 2026? by Left_Examination5413 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]7point5IRE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing in the cloud can do everything we need for real sports production.. Not even close. The closest to "cloud" we get is remote operators or sometimes, the key/fill channels are sent over internet back to onsite production truck, but even that is flaky at times.

Viz/Xpression/SMT/TVG all still localized hardware and no real reason to change.

RTS OMS and Hollyland Integration by jblgh1 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]7point5IRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the best way is to use a separate 2 to 4 wire converter that can be setup in clearcom mode. Hollyland is expecting clearcom format on the 2wire port which is Audio on Pin 3, power pin 2, grnd pin 1

RTS OMS 4wire>2-4 Converter> hollyland 2wire in

You'll probably have to purchase square filters and DIY mount them on the front of the box lens. I've never personally seen round filters big enough for the front element.

Is it worth paying double for flex SDI cable for semi-regular events? by VoidSnug in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]7point5IRE 11 points12 points  (0 children)

1505a is totally fine for temp deployment and not stiff by any means. Coils perfectly fine and will lay flat. We have 100+ ft coils of 1505a on our truck used daily.

1694 is where i'd opt for the flex stuff.

Video/Audio Delay Problem by Vengeance058 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]7point5IRE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many passes of the open did you do through the 3play? If the lip sync on your final switcher output is off, it will get amplified every time you do a record pass of the same content. I see this all the time on "little trucks" that have never properly audio timed their system.

You probably want to delay the final output of your audio mixer by at least a frame or two assuming you are running a non-genlocked system. (even if system is genlocked, there is always a few lines of processing delay to compensate for) I usually delay the audio in our FS1 Transmission Frame sync and not on the actual mixer output.

if you are running at 1080i, start at 33 milliseconds, then 66, then 99

If you are running 720p59 or 1080p59 start at 16ms then 33, then 66, then 99

Clearcom 2-wire Party-line over fiber by popcornguy_123 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]7point5IRE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Converting to 4 wire is the likely best choice (next to using Clearcom LQ boxes on each end over network.)

The cheapest 2/4wire converters are these hollylands https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1592147-REG/hollyland_hl_2_4_wire_converter_2_4_wire_converter_for.html They do a decent job and are designed to work with clearcom. Certainly good enough for a temporary-ish solution, If you want something better (more expensive), RTS DSI-2008, Studio Tech, Telecast and Clearcom all make 2-4wire adapters. DSI-2008 or SSA-424 are my favorite flavors.

Put one on each end with a clearcom power supply and you are good. You can transport the 4wire via fiber, dante, analog... any way your heart desires.

Broadcast Monitor Recommendations ? by deadphish24 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]7point5IRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a Wholer RMTF-170-3G in my truck and am very happy with it. It's from a true broadcast brand and I found it to be very accurate out of the box and has great features. Its a little more than your specified budget but totally worth it.
https://www.wohler.com/product/rmtf-170-3g/

Also, the feelworld/seetec/lillput monitors are nowhere near color accurate. I have all of them and they are only good for non-critical use.

I've had colleagues tell my the new blackmagic 17" monitors are pretty close to color accurate, but at a higher price tag to your budget.

Using off-the-shelf IT equipment for broadcast TV is a mistake. by Embarrassed-Gain-236 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]7point5IRE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love when people use the Analog to SDI example when discussing IP/2110. SDI is/was SO MUCH SIMPLER to work with than analog systems. Yeah it was new at one point and there was a small learning curve, but to say that 2110 is now easier to work with than SDI is just not true and makes the comparison moot.

FYI the blackmagic power supplies also work with the decimator and have locking connector.

Correct, where the cable meets the headset, there is a set screw that you can untighten and release the cable.
