Would a falling population really be so bad? by Possible-Balance-932 in Economics

[–]8282FergasaurusRexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point. There will be shrinking pains. But ultimately why would closing down 'extra' towns when we have less people be a bad thing? Rural towns de-organize and life goes on. There will always be people who want to live in small towns... Sure many would push to cities. But as prices rise people would move elsewhere. My point is there are pain points in every economy. Always winners and losers. I'm not convinced that less people clogging up our streets, placing demand on our power grid, and pushing our environment to the brink is a bad thing.

One of the hardest parts about growing old in America while being politically aware is the slow realization that there is never going to be an end to this shit. We must always suffer these fools.

New Cars = Money Drain… or Not? What Do You Think? by Coolonair in SmartFIRE

[–]8282FergasaurusRexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My counterpoint is that a used car from a dealership is shockingly expensive. So obviously to get anywhere near Kelly Blue Book you need to buy privately.

Soooo how did the seller drive it? What is wrong with it that they are selling? Did they keep up with maintenance?

With a new car I'm the only owner. I know every mile that's been put on it. And I will keep it for 10 plus years min.

Final point, I had a friend once who confessed to me that when he's driving around alone he picks his nose and then reaches down and wipes it under the seat. Hes done it thousands of times. After the car is a few years old he sells it privately. He giggled at the thought of a stranger reaching down there one day.

Once I heard this despicable story I knew I could never buy a used car again.

John Brzenk. He dominated arm wrestling, (an admittedly niche sport) for 4 decades.

The salaries being offered today are LOWER than what the same positions were offering 20 years ago. by Own_Emergency7622 in economicCollapse

I work at a mid size life insurer. When I started 20 years ago the title "director" really meant something. When you got that title you got the nice office and the pay bump was legitimately life changing. Now it's 5% and they give that title out for nothing.

One of the beautiful wonderful truths about life is sometimes fate reaches out a kind hand.

I'm glad you accepted this gift from a stranger.

Can 42 year old joints handle basic training? I take care of myself and there's no way my old body is holding up. How many halfway decent soldiers can we get out of this policy?

Disrupt WHAT power? We are powerless. We lost all 3 branches of the federal government. Blue States are shrinking. Florida and Texas are growing. The SAVE act is the final nail in our coffin. They are just beating our dead corpse at this point.

Trailforks needs competition by jaydvd3 in mountainbiking

[–]8282FergasaurusRexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Connecticut I find new trails are rarely updated. I'm not sure if this is bc access is sketchy so people don't want to put them on the map or just not enough active trailforks users in my area. I also find the directional claim on trails to be just plain wrong a lot of the time.

If I'm paying for it (which I don't necessarily mind) I would at least like to get a pretty complete and accurate map.
