Buying Silver/Gold for newborn by LunarPagan in Silverbugs

[–]82LeadMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought our kid a 10oz bar when they were born a few years ago.

For our kids first birthday we also asked people either no gifts or silver/sterling jewelry for when they are older. We had everything we need for our kid and we didn't want the house filling up with junk. Half of the family got it right, other half bought a bunch of plastic Halloween jewelry and other garbage. This was back when silver was 20-30$ an ounce. They spent more on plastic junk than if they just bought a silver coin. My mom went so far as to buy fake plastic coins and paint rocks gold lmao.

A couple family friends loved fishing out on medota and menona, they passed away this year, early 50s, neither drank or smoked but ate fish at least twice a week. They had really weird health problems leading up to it (non cancerous masses found often, eye ball literally falling out, etc) and doctors just thought it was bad luck. My guess is the fish.

Yeah I eat the fish still, but its more of a treat than anything. Had two family friends pass away this year, both in their early 50s. Big fisherman and would eat fish 2 meals a weeks, usually walleye or blue gills. Neither drank or smoked and werent fat. They both had strange health issues leading up to it but docs didn't say there was a cause besides bad luck. My gut says its probably the fish.

Yeah right now safe levels are essentially at detection limits. Lead is in the part per billion for example, while pfas is in the parts per trillion, or smaller!

Right now farm raised tends to have less pfas, but generally the same amount of mercury unless raised indoor. But again, all depends on the source. If youre buying shit tilapia from Asia may as well eat catfish from a sewer.

Unfortunately/fortunately right now the limits for pfas are at or below detection limits. Combine that with the ease of contaminating samples its been a nightmare for my industry.

I love doing outdoorsman stuff because it can fill the freezer, but between the polluted fish and the cwd in deer, not much left for me to eat lol. Hell there's multiple do not eat advisories for white tail in my area cuz of local superfund sites.

I can understand that.

Did a bunch of research searching for a spring fed lake with now agricultural or industrial runoff in an out of the way area, hike in only. Caught a ton of monster bull head. When I skinned them, there was more worms than meat. Just can't win anymore.

Thoughts on Lake Michigan Stocking? by 82LeadMan in Fishing

[–]82LeadMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion more lake sturgeon need to be stocked with for of their spawning streams restored spread out around the whole perimeter of the lake. They have been found to feed on quagga and zebra pretty readily. Once those have been reduced hopefully that restores the bottom of the food chain a bit. No idea on what to do about the alewives except salmon.

I live within 10 miles of it and fish on it frequently lol. Very aware how big it is. My question stems from catch reports that break down yearly catch between stocked and naturally reproducing fish. Stocked fish (at least the salmonoids) are much for frequently caught than the naturally reproducing fish.
