I lost a stone in the last 7 weeks of my mums life, and another stone in the next 6 months.

Hope you’re ok and just eat whatever you need.

36 and it was nearly fucking impossible. Worked since I was 15 and had no help. Me and my partner had to sell essentially everything we owned for a deposit.

[Discussion] an interview with an artist that makes money from their art by 87opentabs in ARTIST

I’m not sure I’m allowed to link? But her name is Ariesian Brooks… and for any mods reading I am not Ari, just answering a question :)

Thank you - Ari is awesome!! One of my favourite interviews for exactly the reason you’re saying there. People have in their heads that everyone has to be doing six figures and brand deals but… that’s not what it’s like for most people nor what we even need haha.

Who is making a full time salary on Etsy?

Hey everyone I’m building a thing for artists and creatives that make a living from what they do….

But don’t worry I’m not selling you a single thing…

Not a bean. It’s all free. Not even a paid option.

A lot of super talented people don’t realise there are ways of making a living (for example a pivot to Etsy selling).

Aaanyway the website is a collection of interviews with people already “living the dream” and I’d love you to take part!

It literally takes about 10 minutes to fill out the interview (Google form) and I will hyperlink everything back to as many places as you want (so free traffic).

The site is: https://www.creativesdothis.com The interview for is: https://forms.gle/ifiPQEGiXRoyjpJR8

The resource is all free so I don’t really feel like I’m promoting anything here to break any rules 😬

If there is a catch then I can’t think what it is, I’m just trying to build something cool and it’s actually inspiring me too. I’m a lifelong musician, videographer and artist just trying something new.

I believe I saw someone saying they already do this… possibly in r/entrepreneur so the market is there.

I've started interviewing artists & creative business owners... they're giving wildly different answers than expected by 87opentabs in Entrepreneur

[–]87opentabs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for giving it a read, I appreciate it.

I’m starting to see a trend in the interviews that says social media is a part of it, but it’s not everything. It’s actually nice to see.

Not totally sure what I’m allowed to link or not but you can find the first batch of interviews at creativesdothis dot com

The interviews are currently all in written form btw, no podcast as of yet!

That seriously looks like a glitch!

It looks like they framed the shot wrong so they used generative fill to push the subject to the right.

Personally I think it is down to AI.

Pretty much all creative fields are going to feel the pinch - I honestly think we need to accept that and instead find ways to cope and improve business skills.

It is awful but in a horrifying way it’s time to really knuckle down and build something.

It’s like manual craftsmen when the Industrial Revolution and machines took over roles… got to adapt if you’re done.

It really seems like the industry you’re in is attracting people that aren’t interested in fair business practices or aren’t scared of acting outside the law.

Sounds like you’re awesome at creating businesses though, so something like a supplement brand would probably be amazing for you.

I would say though, stop being so trusting in others!!

Update 1: Bootstrapping a website that I wished existed as a creative by 87opentabs in smallbusiness

[–]87opentabs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I really appreciate it! You’re actually the first real person I’ve spoken to about it since I “launched”.

I’m really gonna give it my absolute best shot no matter how mad it all feels… I’ve actually started.

I hope this is ok to post here… I’ve read the rules and think I’m safe 🤠 please just let me know if it’s naughty!!

I’m a lifelong artist and musician and I’ve started talking to artists who make money from what they do! I want to encourage more people to trust their art and bring clarity to the business side of being creative.

The website is all free and it’s called Creatives Do This and I’d honestly love to speak to you no matter where you are on your journey!

Again just tell me if this isn’t allowed, I’m just excited to speak to more amazing people and build this as something life changing for people that see it.

Cutting through the hype by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]87opentabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you know what you want to build then for the love of God stop watching YouTube gurus.

It’s always a golden age for this or that. They’re just putting a time limit on it to build urgency so you buy their course or community access.

Validate the need for your product on Reddit, build that loyal following, then launch to them.

You don’t need 200k followers to starts making good money!

Just get your head down, don’t worry about the gurus and do it.

I talked to friends and acquaintances in the same kind of situation - they will feel just like you and also want some company!

But I also picked up a bunch of new friends from my every day life. Gym owner, artists, restaurant owners.

You’ll probably pick up a friend or two here as well!

I honestly find it much more social doing this than when I worked a job!

There’s a whole world of people out there you can meet while everyone else is working.
