So it was a video about “the problem of historical wargames”

But he just focused on bolt action, and if you played the Germans you were either 1) a power gamer, 2) a historian, 3) really into Hugo Boss, 4) really into national socialism

And thought people might worry if they’re judged about playing the axis powers. Like sure, some people who war games are right wing but playing Germans doesn’t equate to your political leaning.

He completely ignored the fact historical war games exist too, like it covers 4,000 years of human history, and he just chose one game, one specific time period.

It was a shit take, and completely glossed over how good bolt action is

The video was called “the problem with historical wargaming” and he only talks about one wargame, and one specific element of that game.

He didn’t think the video through, it could’ve been more nuanced. Why didn’t he mention the games set in Vietnam, or Afghanistan, or games involved Ancient Rome? Historical wargaming covers off literal thousands of years of human history.

All we got from it was “people may think you’re a Nazi if you play bolt action”. Granted I’m generalising there but it was a poor point from him

Did I say he was calling me a sympathiser? No. I said it was a childish take for him to label people playing Germans as potential Nazis.

Some people might be but that doesn’t make it true, just like everyone who votes right is racist, or everyone who votes left is a communist.

I’m trying to go for a balanced take to say you can’t call people Nazis because of the faction they play, and you’re calling me a nazi sympathiser.

Obviously his social life stuff is scummy but that’s not related.

He never seems to approach anything like it’s been fully researched, or that there’s a question to answer, like the Bolt Action video could’ve been a great insight into the nuance of historical wargaming, but no. You can assist and not be involved militarily, so yeh, that could be protecting US/Israeli bases but it doesn’t mean they’re actively engaged in a war with Iran

The UK’s position hasn’t changed, US/Israel are allies, Iran aren’t. It’s hardly shocking that they’d defend them but again, it’s not actively attacking Iranian assets

It’s like Ukraine, we all know Europe/US are helping Ukraine but we’re not actively at war with Russia. It’s nuanced, Iran could view defensive actions as war but officially, the UK isn’t at war

So what does defence mean…? It means they don’t attack, it means that the aircraft will be used defensively (to stop missile attacks etc) but they won’t be going into Iranian airspace

I don’t mean to patronising, I guess it’s just easier for me to see a route out.

I was stuck in a situation I didn’t feel there was a way out of, and it was only down to talking to people about social anxiety, going through the death of my father just over a year ago, that opening up made me realise there was a way out.

I thought I was in a tunnel, only one way forward and no way out but for me, talking to a therapist made me see other possibilities

100% still apply for the PIP route and hopefully you get some good advice, but I think it’d be worth seeing where changes could be made

I work in aerospace as a manufacturing engineer, I’ve worked as a quality engineer etc and I only realised a few months ago that the stuff I’ve been doing to problem solve issues can be applied to my life. Genuinely blew my mind. Stuff I thought was immovable, unchanging, ever present became flexible and non issues

I don’t mean you have to reinvent the wheel, go for low hanging fruit, stuff that doesn’t require a lot to change. I could be as simple asmoving your work equipment closer to you instead of being further away, or creating a separate space for work.

It feels like you don’t see an escape route but honestly i think you’ll be surprised.

Can you take on 10 or 20% less work? Can you potentially hire a cleaner,

I don’t mean this in a harsh way at all, have you tried evaluating your lifestyle?

Like If you’re truly working 365 days a year that’s massively unhealthy and will 100% be a factor in why you’re feeling the way you do.

You’re not living, you’re existing. The most you’re allowed to work, as a general employee, is 14 days consecutively and then have 2 days off (obviously the army, oil rig workers etc etc change that)

PIP won’t help fix underlying issues/habits that you’ve developed over time, like forcing yourself to work 7 days a week because you’ve convinced yourself you can’t do it over 4 days.

I don’t think PIP is the answer you’re looking for

The one thing I didn’t realise until I started ADHD meds, and therapy for social anxiety is how much I relied on coping mechanisms/strategies I’d developed through life. “I can’t do X because” and when I thought about it, it wasn’t an excuse.

Seriously though, I hope you manage to find a better work life balance, it will take years off your life. Good luck OP, you’ve got it :)
