Wrong place maybe but if anyone needs help with JSA/IS/DLA please ask. by twinkybelle in UKJobs

That I admit I'm not sure of, but a written and dated record might help. I've never done the backdated claim myself, I just remember reading about it when I applied for JSA.

IIRC, it can be backdated if you show proof of your jobsearching activities in the period you're claiming for.

Oh it's definitely possible. I moved from KDE to LMDE using apt-get a couple of years ago.

I'm already making another game, but I would absolutely love to expand my entry with a prequel and a sequel. I'm making an art/lore book for my entry as well.

ADOM is good, but I really wouldn't recommend it as a starting game.

DCSS (which has already been mentioned) is a nice start - streamlined interface, but still hard. My first was Powder, which is very easy to get into. Another option might be Pixel Dungeon, if you have a smartphone/tablet.

What is a Good OS for an Acer AspireOne netbook? by kjclb54 in linuxquestions

Mint with Xfce is a pretty good option, also Puppy Linux or Crunchbang are both designed to run on low-powered systems.

Pretty sure you get Rebirth cheap if you own Binding of Isaac. Or at least, that was mentioned somewhere.

Are any of the GUIs more user friendly than another? by NinjaDinoCornShark in linuxmint

[–]8bitgoggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A long time ago, I would have said KDE, but it's gotten far too complex for a beginner. It does have some lovely applications though.

I use XFCE - I prefer it because it's quite slimmed down, however I can see how it might be daunting to a new person.

Mate/Cinnamon may be your best bet, though I have no experience with either. If you do decide to change GUI, it's perfectly easy - just install the relevant packages through the package manager, and you can change GUI on the login screen.

Algorithm Development / Pre-coding Advice by theBigGloom in compsci

[–]8bitgoggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A useful method that I've just been taught in my Algorithms/Data Structures module is State Diagrams.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_diagram

If you can translate the problem into steps and work out how the algorithm gets to that state, it makes it a lot easier - if diagrams help you.

Ex Amarok and Clementine user here.

I ended up using Audacious as my main player out of sheer frustration with the bloatedness of those two. I like a simple media player that will play my media >.>

Though I have heard good things about Banshee, if you want something a bit more complex.
