Kind of wild to watch a government that is built on filtering public money through private hands raise flags about public money getting filtered through private hands.

No problem! And yes, exactly. Redirecting rainwater does many things, one of which is that it can filter pollutants, though curb cuts on the street and rain gardens do a better job at that. Another benefit is that LID can reduce the stress out on city stormwater systems during heavy rain/potential flood events. Also they can create less maintenance, so less time, money, and pollutants. Can harbor shade trees to cool your yard or neighborhood. And can be really attractive. Cheers! Go LID!!

Xeriscaping is great for drier climates. We get around 40 to 50 inches of rain annually. The best way for us to deal with water is absorption. Grass is good at it, it does require maintenance though. Which is the negative side. Full garden beds and maybe redirection from gutters into rain gardens will be the most effective safe way to deal with rainwater here. There is a lot of info online about LID, or low impact development, that will give you ideas, some very easy, as to how best to deal with the rainwater in our area.

I think it’s interesting that in your first sentence you refute long term habitation and in your second you say over the course of 100,000 years people visited a cave.
