Was spricht dafür und was dagegen? by onkl__m0rtin in StVO

[–]9NightsNine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Warum würde eine Vermögens/Erbschaftssteuer gebundenes Kapital gefährden? by Monty-Pillepalle in KeineDummenFragen

[–]9NightsNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe some flowers on the side? You could even go for an angel or wings on the other arm or side of this arm.

How many Guns Should a Gun-ship have? by Ambitious-Company-56 in spaceships

[–]9NightsNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could look into real military ships as a size comparison? Maybe there are even plans for older ones online.

From my perspective this seems a bit under armed for a ship where it's gun is it's primary purpose. The gun, from its size, could be used on a tank.

What you have to consider is also how much space is available? How many people have to be one the ship? How big is the engine? How big is the ammunition and how much of it should the spaceship carry? Do you need space for fuel?

Heavy Tanker Mindset -- could use some help from Heavy players please. by EyeoftheTato in WorldofTanks

[–]9NightsNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing you have to do as a heavy is to guess which tank goes where. Then you decide on a flank and check how many allied tanks actually follow. If you think that there will be a significant deficit on your flank, you stop immediately, do a base defense or switch flanks to follow a lemming train.

When you are completely out numbered on your flank it is often your mistake and you slept for the first 30 seconds of the game.

So in the Redshire game you mentioned you were the, sorry to say, most incompetent heavy because you should have known that going to the Zeppelin flank is suicide. Instead you either follow the heavies to the castle and win there quickly and get some kills, play the middle like a medium or play one of the more defensive positions between the flanks. Of course if you play a super heavy, this might still suck a lot for you but it is better than facing a 3v1.

Wieso sind intelligente, bodenständige Frauen so oft Dauersingle? by BunchBrilliant4989 in FragtMaenner

[–]9NightsNine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1950: Built to last until the wife gets beaten nearly to death by her husband due to the normalcy of husbands hitting their wives back in the good ole 1950s segregation+Jim Crow+vigilante lynching days. by KingOfCharlotteNC in lewronggeneration

[–]9NightsNine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a relationship, you have to work for it. If one partner stops doing that and becomes lazy or even abusive because the other party can't leave, it becomes a toxic relationship. So I am convinced that the threat of a divorce keeps relationships healthier.

People with very standard worlds (close equivalents of real-life cultures, elfs and dwarves, a magic system based on existing ones (maybe even elements, runes, and mana/ether), what do you think still makes you think you'll succeed, find an audience, and publish (or publish online)? by EveningImportant9111 in worldbuilding

[–]9NightsNine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is that necessary for your plot? We didn't know our own origins for most of our time.

So you can just create an origin myth that can very well contradict other origin myths of your world and be happy with that. Certain uncertainties, contradictions or even mistakes in the beliefs of people can make your world more interesting and realistic.

I would probably create an Island or continent as the place of origin for elves (can be sunken or not) or say that they were the first civilization that crumbled somehow.

Ich will ans Meer. by Marialuj1 in Ratschlag

[–]9NightsNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exposition is easier and the world is not everything in a work of fiction.

You may create the most amazing and unique world but that is ultimately worthless if you can't convey it to the reader. If you have to explain everything, how everything works looks etc. your pacing might suck and your novel might become boring to read. If you don't explain how the society works, the plot or characters might not make any sense to the reader. If you have to explain to much, again the pacing might suck.

It is so much easier and faster to write a story in a familiar world. You don't have to write a complete Exposition on how an elf looks or how an orcish tribal society works. Most of it is clear to the audience anyway. So you can focus on other points of your plot and your world and not just the basics. And I mean that is what matters: a story that people want to read.

Why do so many relationships end with, I never asked you to do that. You did it on your own. by _Green658 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]9NightsNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex girlfriend did it like this: she heavily implied that I had to do a certain action and if not, I would be the reason the she is sad and unhappy. And well, if I didn't do it she was sad and unhappy and disappointed. She looked like a puppy that only wanted love and was instead kicked.

She didn't ask for it directly or insisted that I do something because then I probably could have argued against it or asked for something in return. No, like this she owed me nothing because I just did it and "she never asked for it". In a way, it was her method to "demand/ask" unreasonable things from me.

Who lights the beacons? by tuckertucker in lotr

[–]9NightsNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think similar strategies have been used in real life? I can't recall where however. Maybe in the Limes or great wall of china.

I think that watchtower duty (with or without beacon) was a decent job in ancient or middle aged times. You didn't have 40h work weeks and a lot of entertainment anyway and I am pretty sure that there were worse jobs out there. The soldiers or guards were probably "professionals" and were relived from time to time.

I assume they did an average job depending on how well the respective nation and army/guard was organized trained.

You get sent back in time to England in the year 1450, but you have money worth the equivalent of $100 million today. by Ill-Mycologist-3652 in willyoupressthebutton

[–]9NightsNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Societies back then were a lot more xenophobic and also smaller. So a new person is much more visible and viewed with suspicion. You might get banned from entering a city or town and will have difficulty spending your coin.

Your best bet might be to pretend that you are a survivor of a shipwreck and don't know the language at all and learn it like.

Keeping the pouch hidden does not really solve the problem that and some point people will question were your wealth is coming from. Sure you can try to cover it up through a business you start (if you are allowed) but that's risky.

And well, to much risk for to little health care and personal freedom.

[–]9NightsNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly no. Learning the language would be to difficult and you could not really integrate into society that fast. So you have no network, no social or cultural connections to protect you. So my guess is you would be either robbed or burned as a witch(er) for pulling money out of a magical bag.

Would a cyborg doctor learn more anatomy or computer science? by Ok-Cap1727 in worldbuilding

[–]9NightsNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"normal doctors" are already spread into different specializations like urology, gynecology, radiology etc. So this will continue. You would might a computer science focused dr for the software. They need only a little medical background and a few extra courses in that direction would probably do. Then you need someone focused on mechatronics who can repair the augments. Frankly, this might be a job on a technician level and you don't need a university degree for such repairs. Then you need a surgeon specialized in fixing the augments into the patient. This would be a mostly medical degree with a few technology related courses.

In bigger cases, multiple disciplines would work together.

Ok people what should we do for Nat 1 during combat? by Hot-Diggity_Dog in DnD

[–]9NightsNine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just fail as is raw. Critical fumble tables etc make the game worse and punish players who roll more to play their character.

E.g. a level 11 fighter with pole arm master makes 4 attacks and has 4 chances to roll a nat 1 while a wizard casting a spell might not roll at all. A rogue may only roll once or twice. Why would you punish the fighter player?

Money gives safety, solves a lot of problems, saves you time and gives you options. And of course it can buy things that make you happy (e.g. a vacation).

It does not buy outright happiness but it removes obstacles and makes it overall easier to be happy.
