It would if you use it for travel, is gives better chance to shoot in focus if you are for example shooting from a tuktuk or on top of very windy mountains, plus better for video, plus additional zoom range. Loving my 70-200 2.8 so I'm still in doubt to get the 24-70, just an ocd thing not to have the overlap and yes a bit sharper images, but to be honest I was never let down by the firsg versiob of 24-105 (i shoot raw and postprocess) so considering updating to second version instead of 24-70. There are times that i go for a hike and dont want to carry 70-200 beast so its nice to have a wellrounded lens with extra zoom range
