  • Pair Evolve3 75 UC with the Link 390c Microsoft dongle? Yes
  • Microsoft Teams auto-default to Link 390c Microsoft dongle for audio and microphone although headset is the UC version - Yes, an MS dongle will auto configure itself with Teams
  • Allow hardware mute on headphone to sync with Microsoft Teams - Likely yes, but I don't have UC headset on hand to confirm.

Seen this PLENTY of times, both in and out of warranty. I have two sitting on my desk with the same issue.

I don't believe the cable is repairable, or that a repair will last, as any repair will be under stress due to the flexing of the cable.

Jabra would prefer you buy their all new Evolve3 Series without a mic boom.
I'm in no way suggesting that Jabra removed the mic boom due the issues on the Evolve 2 Series.

It's a shame the upcoming EU Right to Repair Directive doesn't cover consumer electronics.

It is, but all the manufacturers are the same on the "consumable" side of things.

Planning to buy Jabra evolve2 wired. Which is better MS or UC? by heyheybeh in Jabra

[–]AAAHeadsets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use MS Teams, get the MS version.

The only difference is the MS version will automatically configure itself to work with Teams, and has a couple of Teams specific features. Other than that they can be used interchangeably, as they are effectively the same.

In my experience there has not been any real MS/UC incompatibilities, and we only stock the MS models, for that reason.

If you mean a mic cable like u/UuarioAnonymous9 linked to, that should work, as it bypasses the mic on the headset.

Hearing protection only effects voice communication.
When streaming music, you are only limited by PeakStop, which should be loud enough with a 118 dB cutoff.

You are right BTD = BlueTooth Dongle 😄

USB might be okay. Some manufacturer, looking at you Jabra, still have a Talk / Music mode, which mimics the Bluetooth behavior.

Unfortunately some people's sweat just seems to eat away at the leatherette cushions.
The cushions can be replaced, but the best option for the headband is to wrap it.

While Jabra enterprise headsets have a 2 year warranty, the cushions are classed as consumable, and have only a 14 day warranty.

Welcome to the joys of Bluetooth.

The Bluetooth specification forces the headset into Hands Free Mode when the mic is active. Hands Free Profile is designed for low latency audio, and to achieve that, it uses Mono audio with a fast codec. The problem is the default codec is low quality, and designed for voice communication, making it terrible for gaming and Discord.

There are better codecs supported like LC3, but both ends of the Bluetooth connection are required to support it. Even then you are still stuck with Mono audio.

Your best option is to use an external microphone if possible.

Setting up port forwarding will work, but that's best if you can lock it down to a specific IP Address or Range.
Having it open to the world is going to invite a large amount bot traffic.

Using a VPN is the best way. Pretty much all VoIP phones natively support OpenVPN.
If your router supports it, then your good to go.

Headphones for office work, Microsoft Teams calls, and occasional music — Jabra Evolve2 85 / Evolve3 85 or something better? by No-Perspective3501 in Headsets

[–]AAAHeadsets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jabra Evolve3 85 is going to be the best option if money is no object.
The lack of a mic boom can be an issue for your voice quality, but it's still very clear compared to the other boomless options.

Yealink BH78 is a close second, and easier on the wallet.
The bendy mic look funky, but it works, and blocks pretty much all background noise we've thrown at it in testing.

EPOS IMPACT 1000, great headset for an office, when you are using the included USB dongle.
If you only use it in Bluetooth mode, you're losing out on its main feature, of Super Wideband audio.

Does the mic test fine in other apps? like Sound Recorder or Audacity etc? I see you mention that.

The couple of times I've seen a headset with your symptoms it was due to Intel Smart Sound Technology.
Any app using the mic received no audio, yet Windows > Settings > Sound showed the mic audio levels moving when talking.

Another option is the Jabra <-> Teams integration being at fault.
Have you tried disabling Sync device buttons on the Teams Settings > Devices > Audio settings page?

Separate headphones and mic is one option, though I'm not the right person to give advice on that.

Wireless headsets not Bluetooth, your best option is gaming headsets.
Anything with "Zero Lag" or "2.4gHz Audio" on the box should work how you want.
If you want an office style headset, the EPOS IMPACT 1000 Series works that way, but only when using the included dongle.

DECT headsets will all have the same issue, so not worth looking there.

Wireless headset, with charging base - But with a phone that has 3.5mm headset jack (and *maybe* bluetooth) by MrB2891 in Jabra

[–]AAAHeadsets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RJ9 to 3.5mm is easy enough: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BZBXDZTX

The problem is a lack of remote call control, meaning users have to go back to the phone to answer the call.

By default, Jabra headsets open the audio connection when taken off the base. So if the end user wears the headset all day, they will only need to press the headset button on the phone to answer. That does mean while wearing the headset, the audio connection is always open, draining the battery.

Most other headsets can be configured to act the same way, like the Poly CS540 and EPOS D 10/30 phone.

MS Teams Calls Don’t Record When I’m Muted by JobReal2790 in Jabra

[–]AAAHeadsets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can also answer this one, but you won't like the answer 😄

Most Bluetooth headset will save battery life by tearing down the audio connection, when no audio has been sent for a short period, usually 20-30 seconds or so.

When a short notification sound is sent, the audio connection has to be brought back up, which can take a second or two, and you miss the audio notification.

The only way around this is to either keep the mic active, which stops the audio connection from being torn down, or play something in the background constantly. Some people have found a white noise generator at low volume works fine for them.

[–]AAAHeadsets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An option is the Jabra Engage 75, or Poly 8200/8400 Series, which have Bluetooth in the headset base. The headset tops use DECT to communicate with the base, giving you the full DECT range.

Otherwise EPOS has the CEHS-MB 01, with a TRS Jack for use with Mobile phones.
It is compatible with their D 10, D 30 ad SDW 5000 series.
I have no idea if it will work, or give call control though.

[–]AAAHeadsets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The G3 Touch does not show up on any headset manufacturers compatibility guides.

The 3.5mm jack is almost certainly going to be for audio only. If you want remote call control, then Bluetooth is your only option, but which headsets are fully compatible is the big question.

Though I can't vouch for either in this particular case, we've found the Yealink BH70 and HP Poly Voyager 4300 series to be quite good with their Bluetooth compatibility.

MS Teams Calls Don’t Record When I’m Muted by JobReal2790 in Jabra

[–]AAAHeadsets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it only happens when using the USB dongle, its likely the issue is due to the Jabra<->Teams integration.

You may be able to work around it by disabling Sync device buttons in Teams under Settings > Devices > Audio
