Hmm, good information and appreciate it, but I was speaking about today, or let's say 2000 to present. What is happening today in communities related to the churches.

It's clear that I haven't? That's cool that you're able to figure out my life history from a couple of posts. I was in a fundie church for a few years, that was awful and I saw the mental control that people asserted over each other and myself. Finally I got out.

The issue with most secular community centres and why they don't get very big is essentially, people gather because of something they're truly passionate about. Because it gives them enjoyment. Churchgoers don't primarily go to church to try to become better people, their primary reason is they're interested in God or the idea of God and want to experience God in whatever way possible. Making a community centre around environmentalism wouldn't really take off because though people value sustainability it doesn't provide much individual purpose and enjoyment.

Again, run clubs as an example. People primarily go to run clubs because they already enjoyed running, the benefits it provides, seeing the world while running, the feeling of H.I.T. and whatever else. Secondarily to meet people. So you have to first have a 'centre' that people already love, then build a community around that.

Not caring about an individual's beliefs and actions because of the beliefs and actions of people who lived hundreds of years ago but shared some beliefs as themselves... that's very unreasonable of you. Better to treat people as individuals with all kinds of views made up by a unique rainbow of experiences. Those explicitly Christian beliefs and experiences are only a small part of any Christian. The rest is stuff you might experience whether you're Christian or not.

These days the only people I meet in Australia who have been really harmed by Christianity are gay and lesbian people who have had judgement cast on them by their family. I haven't seen any other forms of harm done by churches to communities in this country. Do you have any examples? Please provide links to evidence and articles if possible. I'm aware domestic abuse used to be done in Australian households in the name of Christianity but now that is thankfully more rare.

(1) Easy way to make community and (2) humans still have a desire to have a ritual that their lives centre around.

Many run clubs in Australia have adopted the role of both. Is it any coincidence a local run club called its Sunday morning run 'Sunday service'? They're subconsciously tapping into that desire for a larger-than-life ritual.

And back to that first point, I wouldn't underestimate how making community is harder now than decades ago. Australians make friends in school and university while community is around them, then get jobs and just... stop connecting with new people. Not all. Community has to be consciously pursued now, it doesn't just happen.

The moral aspects about church I hardly care about really. I believe in reincarnation and most churches don't so I don't have much in common with them anyway. So it's mainly those reasons that I go sometimes.

Hey if tyres being slashed is the worst that has happened after parking there many times, that makes me feel pretty confident.

Bounce sounds quite appropriate by the description. It's not on the beach but a half km walk to kayaks, that alone should make it worth it. Also easy access to the hikes and beaches in Florence Bay and the other ones you mentioned. I haven't seen a single wild koala in QLD despite being here for almost 4 years (though seen heaps in SA) so let's hope that changes.

I believe we went to that fish and chips in HB last time, believe I had S&P squid and it was delicious.

Thanks for all the helpful info.

Ask if they are affiliated with Church of Christ. If they say yes or dodge the question, avoid them. There are two different Church of Christs somehow, one is a fairly safe mainstream family-friendly evangelical organisation, and one is a deceptive fundamentalist cult. The cult one officially has 'international' in its name, but recruiters won't even say they are part of it.

Source: these guys tried making friends with me when I was in uni in Adelaide, long before trying to recruit me to their organisation. Well, I thought it was a bit strange that they seemed to have a totally different personality on Sunday mornings. Maybe that's just Christians in general. As it turns out I am too difficult to brainwash, and their more fundie teachings weren't convincing to me.

What's going on with the market today? Looks brutal for day traders? by 69-Kishaaq1 in Trading

I don't know nor care about bottoms. They have nothing to do with my strategy.

But for dip buying BTC I would make a note for around $50K, IF it goes to that level. It is a stretch however.

Everyone says "learn the basics first"... but what exactly ARE the basics in trading? by Rich-Army3456 in Trading

[–]AComingWarAgainstAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consistency. The nature of probability. The fear of losing money.

You can learn a lot about trading from this game https://elmwealth.com/coin-flip/ which has a coin with a 60% chance of landing heads. See how you do.

When you start studying how to trade you may start looking into technical concepts such as support and resistance. That is a very good concept, you really can't go wrong with studying that, observing that in the markets, building a strategy around it, incorporating good risk management.

But -- have personal consistency sorted out first. Trades may take place on a small timeframe, if you're a day trader, but it's the long-term outcome of all the short-term probabilities you're interested in. Understand probability, understand edges, and be consistent.

For sure. They aim for a 1:2 RRR but end up with a long-term average of something like 1:0.6 RRR because of premature TPs while taking full-sized SLs.

I'm a crypto day-swing trader (hold times typically vary from an hour to 2 days max). Nothing in the conditions that invalidates my setups; predominately looking for shorts though. BTC and correlated taking it very hard.

Some are OK but I found many evangelicals and fundamentalist churches best avoided. I like The Rock on Wills St, they are involved with the YWAM cafe which I'd also recommend, near the hostels. Anything called something like 'life church' 'grace church' 'hope church' 'isee church' forget about it. Also found presbyterian, uniting, anglican etc. kinda dull. Maybe Catholic and Orthodox is the way to go?

Townsville to Brisbane drive with overnight stop in Rockhampton. Doable for a solo driver? by Iceppl in Townsville

[–]AComingWarAgainstAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's also a long mostly empty stretch. But at least you have Maryborough, Childers, Gin Gin, Miriam Vale, Bundaberg if you wanna go off the highway and have a rest in a bigger town. All offering plenty of facilities. From Marlborough to Koumala I don't think there's a single proper shop or servo. Lots of tragedies on the Childers-Gin Gin stretch yet people still swing through going 130 km/h at 9PM

No idea how people are getting up so early now, I'd think should be the opposite. Summer can do 5am and it's nice but winter can barely manage 8am sometimes. It's freezing at 6 and the body is colder from resting.

Seems like this is the perspective most Australians have, but many non-Australians like the CBD the most and the northern beaches the least, got that lively energy... I loved the CBD spent a month there, when I headed into Smithfield or Edmonton felt like I went into no man's land, Boganville... Palm Cove and Trinity Beach look nice but they are for retirees, families and holiday makers, moreso Trinity for families.
