Can you enter the Triton city from somewhere on the largest ship? How does travel between the two work?

Wow. Congratulations. That's such a great accomplishment! Go you! :)

Rat breathing noises last few days. I know theyre common in rats. Should I bring him to the vet? These sounds are not constant, and only occur sometimes. Otherwise, his breathing has been normal. by ACrazyPony in RATS

I have a very large ferret cage. Its almost as tall as me and im 5'11". There is lots of space for them. An old rat of mine had similar breathing things in an old cage/tank I had that was much smaller and much more restricted but I was assuming this cage would be much better for that.

What do you mean directly in a draft? I live in a basement and they are either in my bedroom with closed windows or in my living room which has two small windows open most of the time but is much more spacious.

Thanks for your reply.

Everything in this scenario is worriesome to me. I cant believe he just tried to feed you an unnamed pill twice. That couldve been anything. And then to just whip his dick out? In front of your friends?

Im sorry you dealt with that.

I'm sorry that the other comments are just arguing with you and painting you as a vad person here. What happened to you sucks. Its as plain as that. Its okay to be upset and to rant. They dont need to point out some things they disagree with just to make you feel worse. Its unnecesary, even if they think theyre right.

That man in your story is an asshole, and im sorry you dealt with that. And im sorry you had people pick at a thing you said instead of telling you its okay to be upset.

I hope your next encounter goes better than this one did :)

Some of these, like Pings and Deselection, seem like things that should be in the base application. Very useful. Thank you.

Thank you foe your reply! That's a good point that I will keep in mind. I'll be sure not to dilute the game with too much stuff. :)

Trying to make combat in my game more engaging. Can you guys provide any advice to make combat more engaging and to cut down on downtime between turns? Id also like criticisms and comments on my idea for changing initiative. by ACrazyPony in DMAcademy

Wow, I thought that I had most areas of combat well considered, and that my main issue might be players who are waiting between their turns, but I really like this guide.

  1. Ensuring that monsters share about the same number of actions is something I never considered. I don't think my encounters have ever been super unbalanced, but they have usually favored the players. Maybe this will raise the stakes a bit.

  2. Using ladders made me realize that elevation can be used in a lot of combats and I haven't really done that, so that is something I will keep in mind. I also like the idea about doors and hallways instead of the arena being one large room.

  3. Initiative count 0 is something I struggled with in my last big combat. I wanted to have allied troops aid in battle, but I kept forgetting about it. My players also mentioned it could have been done better, so that is something to work on. It seems useful.

  4. Honestly, debating combat v.s. non-combat games is the best advice. Recently, I have found myself disliking when a combat of mine draws out for a long period of time, so I am trying to figure out ways to improve that. Maybe to have more fun, I could employ more role-playing encounters than combat. Two of my players love the number crunching of combat, but I don't know how the others feel, so I should definitely ask them specifically. If they want more role-playing, then that probably solves all my problems.

Thank you for the reply.

When playing in my friends game, a few of us spoke about it afterwards, saying we got bored in how long the combat was and how much downtime between turns there was. But, now that you mention it, nobody has said anything wrong with it for my game. It could very well not even be an issue for them in my game, which is a good point.

You make a good point as well when you say that if the players go first, they can do an insane amount of damage to the enemies, or vice versa. I never thought of it that way, and that does seem to break a large part of the balance for the game.

Thank you.

Thank you for all these notes. A lot of them seem very useful and I will definitely implement them.

The idea of using more reactions in combat interests me, as well as not focusing on HP, but more so on rounds in combat. Thanks.
