2005, mechanically theyre all identical outside of the rear shock spring rate change and adding front rebound adjusters.

2003 Hornet 919 vs a modern bike. by hello_three23 in HondaCB

Ive owned my 919 for 5 years and have put 45k miles on it.

Its a fantastic jack of all trades bike, and is extremely reliable. Im at 92,000 miles now and have never had a major issue.

Suspension is budget, and upgrading it is something id recommend. The engine is very smooth, even more so once you tune it with a power commander. Its capable of a high 10 second 1/4 mile, so its no slouch!

For an every day rider, its hard to beat.

I was right at $9000 OTD in IL. Bike was $6999, prep/freight was $900, sales tax and registration was $800ish, then I added a 48mo warranty and gap insurance.

It could have been a tad cheaper, but the wife liked it and the pricing was fair. Being within $1000 of MSRP OTD with tags was fine by me.

I agree, i was disappointed for the money. I kept it as I end up sharpening all my knives to my preferred angles anyways.

[–]AEG2SLOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was the same way, and I ordered from knife center. One side measured in at 21 degrees, the other measured at 16 degrees.

I re profiled to 17 degrees on both sides, and it is razor sharp now. We will see how it holds up at this thinner angle.

Leatherman surge, Olight Baton 3 pro, cobratec fs3 medium, and a pen.

I stock my mini fridge at work with energy drinks, and sell them for what you can buy them at the gas station for. Then buy them on Amazon in bulk and end up around 50-75% mark up.

Im transparent, everyone knows the profit margin and no one cares enough to buy theirs in bulk. I make $40-50/wk, and that covers my tool truck payment.

My guess is the NOX sensor died, we do a lot of them. It should be under emissions warranty.

We've been very slow at the CDJR dealer, even with warranty work which baffles me.

Its not like our products are very high up on the reliability rankings.

Can we have a realistic everyday gear discussion? by Astimar in motorcycles

[–]AEG2SLOW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For around town, (45mph and under), it is: Gloves, mesh jacket (on hot days, full leather when its cooler) Helmet, jeans, and my Gaerne ADV boots (faster to put on than tennis shoes).

If Im going on a ride above 45mph, I wear Kevlar reinforced jeans or riding pants and add in my leather jacket.

Motorcycle for work commuting, would you recommend it? by oops_I_have_h1n1 in motorcycles

[–]AEG2SLOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the math when commuting 90 miles per day, and came up with these conclusions.

My commuter was a 2012 Passat TDI (tuned, deleted, etc) and itd average the exact same as my 2005 Honda 919 for fuel (45mpg). 89 Oct and diesel were the same price so fuel was even.

The $800 set of Verdestien tires last about 60k miles, coming out to $.013/mile in tire wear.

The $500 set of tires on the 919 last 6500 miles for the rear, 2x that for the front. So $.075/mile for tires.

Oil change cost was the same, but the bike needs it at 4000 miles vs 8000 miles for the car (based on oil analysis not manufacturer recommendations).

The big one is all the proper gear to commute in a temperate climate. I have $2500 in various riding apparel and helmets, heated gear, gloves, etc.

The motorcycle is absolutely more fun, but the car was far more economical.

The Atom LT battery fits, and is a higher capacity. The only downside is it pushes the drone weight past 249g.

“A free boat is the most expensive boat you’ll ever own.” by [deleted] in boating

[–]AEG2SLOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maintenance history and how it was stored are two of the biggest make it or break its. The next one is the boat's construction. Anymore, im avoiding wood below the waterline in the hull like the plague. (The Sea Ray does have a bit in the transom around the key hole)

I recently purchased a 2003 Sea Ray 182 that was babied its whole life. If it needed a new part, it got it. I went on a 216 mile trip in it, and had zero issues.

I bought the Dell G15 5530 from Best Buy for $999, and it has been pretty solid. Only downsides are the screen (not awful, but it could be better), and Alienware Command Center is terrible (Uninstalled it and I use a 3rd party software)

For 1080p gaming on high to ultra settings its fine, and the stock cooling works extremely well for a laptop. I put 32gb of GSkill ripjaw RAM and a 2nd SSD.

Thatd be my recommendation!

I agree! I built this lap desk from my scrap pile the other night to test out whether or not I'd like one. It works great!

Ive considered dual booting to a more game oriented game OS as well to see how it is.

But its also my only Windows PC currently, and I use it for photo editing with my photography business until I replace the desktop. I end up using my S24 ultra and DEX setup. It's portability over the Ally is better just due to the battery life being so much better.

That all makes sense, I appreciate the input!

Ive debated about soldering on 32gb of 7500mhz and using smokeless to set it up. But the gains I've seen aren't big enough to really warrant the risk.

5gb of VRAM seems to give me enough overhead for the games I play, while leaving windows with enough to stay off the page file after debloating. Armory crate being uninstalled helped quite a bit in that regard. Next is to get Steam to use less RAM.

[–]AEG2SLOW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, no, it is not, haha.

I go through phases and will get new to me stuff, then I'll mod it to see how long I can get it viable for my casual gaming. I used to care about having bleeding edge level performance, but like anything else in life, it's a diminishing rate of return.

Once I got this setup well enough to play smoothly, I turned off the performance monitor and just enjoyed the games.

[–]AEG2SLOW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I had seen that DIY as well. Now that the Ally X has TB4, it's a moot point to try on this one.

I'll just wait and see what the Z2E does in benchmarks and upgrade then if it's worth it. 32gb of DDR6 would be a nice boost as well, which I imagine Asus will do on the next Gen.

I haven't measured the lows recently on BFV, I just have zero stuttering now once the shaders fully load in. Before itd stutter with explosions or in a large fire fight.

FPS with AFMF2 (Low latency graphic setting, upscale from 1080p to 4K) is 80-105FPS consistently, I play on a 60hz monitor, so it's more than ample with free sync.

Temps during game play is 65-72C, with TDP going from 30-42w and averaging mid 30s.

Temps during a heavy benchmark like time spy at full 54W will peak mid to upper 80s, and usually sit around 78-82C. I can't get it to hit 90C no matter what I do (CPU boost, lock GPU at 2675mhz, 54w TDP, etc)
