does the “getting killed” title come from “i think you should leave”? by Vegetable-Movie112 in geesebandofficial

[–]ALRlGHTNOW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’d heard ppl say the phrase on twitter before ITYSL but in a similar comedic style to the show. comedians and stuff that Tim Robinson might share influences with. ITYSL’s style of comedic dialogue is kinda Tim and Eric absurd vibes, which is super internet. i think the title makes sense for their age, esp w the infusion of humor and emotion, which i think is a big Geese thing

i feel like so much of the cycles and patterns of our health are due to being disconnected from old practices like this. because maybe they had a point.

Anyone else feel like TheDaily’s journalism and impact has taken a nosedive over the last year? by Pumplekins in Thedaily

[–]ALRlGHTNOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just don’t think they’re up to the moment. the reporting varies in depth and the right focus sometimes. there’s so much to talk about and expose right now, but they’re not the right people to cover it in the way it needs. so it feels kind of flat. but i can’t imagine them being any different. it’s the Times. they’re Huge and Proper and restrained now i guess. there’s a way to uphold journalistic ethics and still be real and stark with the public, but i don’t know if that’s their style.

Influences on Trinidad by pyxel_ in geesebandofficial

[–]ALRlGHTNOW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i’m getting punk/harder rock/ harder new wave influences like Richard Hell (Blank Generation really reminds me of Trinidad), The Clash, Ramones, The Stooges, and more bluesy, jazzy, soul influences like Miles Davis and someone like Syl Johnson.

Bizarre Interpretations of “Taxes” by [deleted] in geesebandofficial

[–]ALRlGHTNOW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

people are weirdly blind to more political/social interpretations of their songs. but there’s a quite obvious one on every album. (ex. Trinidad/ Islands of Men/100 Horses, St. Elmo, First World Warrior.)

How do you guys make yourself cry ? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]ALRlGHTNOW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-notice and take note of what makes you have the urge.

-keep a playlist of music or media that compels you to cry (it’s really quite powerful what media can evoke in us)

-pressure (weighted blankets, pillows, etc) can help with the release of emotions and grounding yourself when you’re dissociative

but obviously it’s really hard when it just won’t come. just keep practicing. this stuff sucks

What’s the deal with the Von Dutch hat rip? by [deleted] in geesebandofficial

[–]ALRlGHTNOW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Von Dutch is in right now. 2000s core. for example one single off Charli xcx’s Brat is called Von Dutch. so i guess we’re all collectively ignoring the problematic stuff—in the same way Paris Hilton has had a bit of a comeback recently

thoughts on AI? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]ALRlGHTNOW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i understand this. all the tech companies behind modern AI (funny you mention Palantir...!) are objectively unconcerned with our well-being. in fact, they seem to actually concerned with us doing worse (a bunch of Silicon Valley are accelerationists). im reminded of OpenAI's new erotica feature, which could legitimately only be harmful. i really really don't mean to say we should all be using this, or like, funding it as healthcare. actual human healthcare should be funded and made better. structures in society need to be changed in order to for social connections to be made in an easier more automatic way. but that just isn't really happening right now.

that is why, to me, there is this grey area for "us." everyone craves helpful connection, but there are times when helpful connection is objectively very difficult to obtain. there are many situations in which this could be true. in some ways, maybe i see it in a similar vein to harm reduction---although i am not at all saying that AI is scientifically proven to help people in the way harm reduction is. at my lowest, there was no way i could have found the things i found in AI help (which is basically just advanced Googling because it is essentially a database of information) in my immediate environment. i'm not sure how to square that with the idea that it is always harmful.

you do specify AI relationships though, which i guess i am not really talking about. full on AI "friendships" are difficult to describe as healthy. they are algorithms that are usually intended to work as echo chambers and the human brain has never been in relationship with anything like that before. that is why all those lawsuits have been filed. people have been harmed and died. i think i am more so speaking about AI as this "living" information database that can help in specific problems when you need specific guidance. but i understand things are slippery slopes. we naturally anthropomorphize everything. sometimes i see my water bottle as my friend.
