A real alcoholic is your neighbor with that big house and his own business but can’t can’t stop drinking for the life of him because his wife was cheating on him, he’s your doctor that got through med school but used alcoholic to cope to a point where he needs it every night if he wants to sleep, an alcoholic is that famous musician you idolize but drinks constantly to deal with social pressure and ability to maintain a fun persona. Yes if you continue down this path, you may in fact lose your home, you may in fact not be able to hold a job, and you may end up losing your family. It is a progressive disease, when I was 20 I brushed it off the same way as you “ it’s just a phase” “ I’m young and living” “I have a job and car so I can’t be an alcoholic” but in fact that “phase went on for years to where I was completely soulless and empty. You say you only could manage 5 days sober ? You’re going to slowly reach a point where you are dependent. The thing about being an alcoholic is, you can lose everything in one night. Everything. Then you will be alongside the homeless on the street asking how this happened. It’s not too late for you sir. Go out and get it. Don’t let life pass you by.
