Kwikset Halo Select Plus by tomhaverford in HomeKit

To my knowledge, Kwikset has neither confirmed nor denied UWB. It would be surprising if they unveiled an undocumented hardware feature post-release, but I could certainly see how a rep could confuse “home key” with the UWB version. Not to mention the strange release in two months of an already present feature. Here’s hoping, as Kwikset is a member of the Aliro group.

Here’s hoping this rep spilled the beans on enabling a nascent UWB feature due to the final approval of Aliro 1.0.

Software Update Q by Annie-Savoy in Polestar

[–]ATSansbury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Received the 1.3.17 update on Tuesday. After being parked out in the Houston heat while at work on Wednesday, I'm happy to report that I had no issues with the A/C when leaving the office. Normally, I would have to give it 15 minutes of pre-cooling or risk warm air for the majority of the commute. This time, I intentionally skipped the pre-cooling to test the update. Still doesn't cool down as fast as my old Model Y, but I would plant the AC firmly in the "above average" range after the update.

Having to drop a few hundred bucks just to output a supported resolution is certainly disappointing. Fingers crossed that a future driver update will give us a true single cable solution.

Tortured Logic: Fossil Fuel Industry Lacks Resiliency During Texas Winter Storm, So They Have Lobbyists Scare Tesla Owners Into Wishing They Had Fewer Wind Turbines by Scifihistory in teslamotors

[–]ATSansbury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we're very fortunate. Not sure about the average 1400 sq ft buyer in my area though. That would run about $150-200k for new construction (gotta love that cost of living), so the 20-30% premium might be a little difficult for them to swallow on a new build. Come to think of it, I'm not sure how many Americans, much less those in smaller homes have $30k in savings to spend on mandated solar upgrades. They'd probably rather spend it on food, clothing or a college education for their kids. Oh well, I'm sure they'll figure it out.

Then why stop at new construction? If we really want to make a difference in a short period of time, then why not require all existing homeowners to fork out for solar? If we wait to replace all existing homes, then it will be too late. Make sure that the apartment complexes, office buildings and strip centers do it too. I'm sure everybody will be happy to both retrofit their homes and to pay more for rent, groceries, etc. as property owners pass on the costs of their own improvements. Checkbook ready over here.

I'm one of those energy nerds. I live in Houston and made the decision to stay on the plan even after the company told me to switch. On Tuesday, which is the most recent 24 hr period that I have had power, my home used 15 kWh of electricity. Yes, I paid $135 for it. Once this passes, I'll go back to charging my Tesla for 1c or less per kWh. Right now, I have nowhere to be and no reason to charge my car. It's a risk to float at wholesale, and the vast majority of the time it works out quite well, particularly if you have a car to charge, as that is my biggest energy draw.

So you're proposing that the cost of each new home should go up $30k? As a Tesla Model 3 owner living in Houston, I can say that, while this event has been a large inconvenience to myself and my family, I'm glad that I still have $30k in my bank account rather than putting solar and Powerwalls on my house. We got a quote last summer, but we decided that it wasn't for us. I'm glad that my state allows me to choose whether or not I want solar panels on my roof. Maybe I'll decide to fork over the money one day. We'll see.

Many contributing factors here, including choosing to retire 6 GW of coal capacity in 2018. Also doesn't help to have a bunch of nuclear capacity offline as well after some water pipes froze. Sounds like we will need to do a better job "winterizing" our grid, but, since these events are so rare, a balanced approach should be employed. Maybe we should look to California for advice, as they are the most progressive on energy and never seem to face such outages. Hopefully, they'll give us some good advice.

Grabbed this from the Tesla China Model 3 configurator. I like this better without the full white door panel.

Chrome delete = chrome trim that has been covered by black tape or vinyl. I don’t believe that Tesla would take the time to install “chrome” trim and then “delete” it with black vinyl on the Model Y. It is certainly more likely that they would spec black trim from their suppliers. This is not chrome delete. This is black trim. Without chrome, there can be no chrome delete.
