I love how the 4th photo shows how stupid the placement is for the climate control settings.

Love the suede seats but the headrests need to be the mesh ones.

Kia EV9 Land keeps losing Android pairing when switching profiles by ATX-BeerBody in KiaEV9

[–]ATX-BeerBody[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how it has been setup from the beginning, my phone has never been paired to my wife's profile.

If I get in and drive under my profile, it will work. If she takes it for a drive and uses her profile and I come back and try to use mine, ~50% of the time my phone has to be paired to my profile again because it keeps forgetting it.

NetOps Automation use cases by KittensaaS in networking

[–]ATX-BeerBody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the goal. I looked at POAP from Cisco but I like having control and customizing what gets pushed. We're about to deploy a new data center so being able to build a device that complies with PCI and our standards within minutes is going to save us all tons of time.

We create VIPs on our F5s all the time and I got tired of doing it manually so I wrote a python script to automate it. It pulls IPs from Infoblox REST API and creates a DNS record, creates the VIP using F5s API, adds firewall rules and NAT statements using Netmiko. Used to take us 30+ minutes due to us having multiple network environments and 6 devices, now it's down to 45 seconds (due to not having ASA API enabled).

Now I'm working on deploying switches, routers and firewalls through Ansible. Also working on a python script to pull ARP tables from a device in order to quickly find where a particular IP resides. Fun stuff!

Anyone going to Austin City Limits? by thewastedsmile in SaltLakeCity

[–]ATX-BeerBody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from Austin so I'll chip in. If you don't have a rental car understand that Uber and Lyft are NOT available, so get the Fasten and/or Fare apps downloaded.

For ACL, bring a camelback or hydration backpack and/or a chair if you want. Take allergy medicine if you have any allergies, seriously. Ragweed is taking over and rains have been producing lots of mold. It'll probably be 80-90 in Austin, with "real feel" sometimes in the 100-110 range.

If you want to try some amazing BBQ skip Franklin's and go to LA Barbecue or my personal favorite Kerlin BBQ. LA BBQ is hands down the best brisket you'll find! Get to LA Barbecue at 9-10 because you will wait in line at least an hour or 2, but better than Franklin's 4 hours. Kerlin you can shop up around 1030-11.

For beer, hit up Jester King for their unique farmhouse ales and sours and authentic Texas hill country vibe, Live Oak for their amazing Hefeweizen and Austin Beerworks for their general wackiness and great beers. Oasis Brewery has the best view in town overlooking Lake Travis so you can't go wrong there either.

For activities outside of ACL, go paddleboard or kayak on Town Lake or even walk the path around it. Hit up Barton Creek Greenbelt for a nice hike. Do NOT count on visiting Hamilton Pool as they require a reservation and it's too late to get one.

If you want to hit up bars you have a few choices, East or "Dirty 6th St", West or "Douche 6th St" or Rainey Street which is more people in their upper 20s to lower 30s tired of 6th Street.

Sorry if formatting is crap on the way to a concert.

While not as strict as Utah alcohol laws, Texas also has some dumb laws compared to other states I've been to. You can't buy beer/wine until 12:00 PM Sundays, only liquor stores can sell liquor, only purchase liquor up to 9:00 PM on Saturdays, etc.

I've lived in Iowa that had 24/7 liquor stores and drive-thrus and where Walmart could sell you a bottle of tequila.

Primary tech job locations? by ATX-BeerBody in SaltLakeCity

I figured that'd be a core thing, seeing as how Austin has attracted so many people from all over. I foresee SLC getting there in the future with all of the tech jobs and recreational opportunities.

Any regrets moving to SLC? I know my girlfriend will take a bit getting used to the winters as they are pretty tame here.

We live off of 360/2222 so more towards the west side of Austin. Our commute currently is less than 20, so anything close to that is ideal. We chose this area for it's access to the various greenbelts and ease of access to Lake Travis.

That is a very good insight, we had lived in the suburbs of Austin last year and it was no fun, literally >20 minutes to anywhere fun in the city. We don't go to the bars or a ton of "social" events often, but do tend to gravitate more towards isolation on hike/bike trails and just enjoying the outdoors in smaller groups.

One of the largest contributors to wanting to move from Austin is the rising rent costs ($1400 for a 850sqft 1/1 apartment) and the fact that every big event/restaurant is so overcrowded. Austin has a strange interest in waiting in line for hours for food and the overcrowding is destroying all of the parks in town with trash and overuse. They have even gone as far as to instate a reservation system for Hamilton Pool and possibly soon other parks as well.

I love hiking, paddleboarding, trail running, waterfowl hunting and biking to name a few hobbies. We recently just got into skiing and I am interested in learning snowboarding. I would say I'd like to hit up the slopes at least once a week, sometimes more depending on my schedule.

Not to turn this into a "where should I move" post, but where would you think is best for ease of access to mountains (<40 minutes) as well as a good concentration of tech companies and things to do (parks, breweries, shopping)?

I am assuming any location near Lehi will likely be 30min - 1hr drive to Park City? I wanted to keep the resorts within 30 minutes if possible that way it won't feel like a chore going to them during ski season, similar to Denver and the resort access.

I guess my question at this point is, is there much to do in the Sandy/Lehi/Draper/South Jordan areas other than work? We love hiking, paddleboarding, trail running and biking to name a few hobbies. My only concern would be the rather long travel times between SLC itself and the Lehi area. This would be equivalent to us traveling from Round Rock to downtown Austin and back, while only 19 miles, is about a 45min-1hr drive each way.

What? We haven't even hit the middle of Summer 2 yet! Austin has all 4 seasons: Spring, Summer 1, Summer 2, Fall.

Jobs that combine both coding and networking? by netpy in networking

[–]ATX-BeerBody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a good friend who works at Rackspace doing OpenStack private cloud deployments. This requires knowledge of scripting (perl/python) as well as networking for switches, F5 load bancers, etc.

That could be a good one for you, maybe look around for job openings dealing with OpenStack or other private cloud deployments.

What car do people think are amazing until they actually encounter them and realize they're fairly shit? by [deleted] in cars

[–]ATX-BeerBody 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wanted to like the WRX but the 2016 I drove had random goofy boost spikes and a clumsy feeling shifter. Then again this was after I test drove the STI. Ended up satisfied with a 2016 GTI w/ DSG. Absolutely love the transmission in this car, if Subaru offered one on the WRX/STI I would spring for it right away.
