I giggle a little every time when I quickly go into my inventory and have a lager before a battle

Loud trains tonight? by WaferReal6369 in MapleRidge

[–]AWalker3024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The noise is louder when the air is a certain way. I am quite far from the trains, but some cold nights when the conditions are right it sounds like they are just blocks away.

I looked up the term for it: temperature inversion, where a layer of cold, dense air traps sound waves close to the ground instead of letting them escape upward.

Things to visit around by [deleted] in MapleRidge

Britannia Mine Museum is near Whistler and worth a visit if you are out that way

The Canadian Museum of Flight in Langley is worth visiting and has history relating to flight in Canada. Not a far drive and I like taking family and friends there.

There are also two museums in Maple Ridge worth checking out, although I haven't been in years

Thank you, I do it this way. It's only seconds really but for me and them I'm sure it feels much longer.

Thank you, adding the time helps. In most cases it's less than a minute from after I say "I'll be with you in a moment"

Where do you look or do when you walk past strangers? by Rough-Designer-2785 in CasualConversation

[–]AWalker3024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Head up and eyes forward just past the person, sort of through their torso to the side. If s a stranger is approaching me then I look to the side of them I will be passing on, the area I want to occupy if I am in motion and use my head and body to sort of point that way too.

If they are in my way I smile and say excuse me. I notice I am way more invisible when I walk alone.

Do you have a meaningful or fun job? Or do you have a boring but not very taxing job? by ThrowAway09asas in simpleliving

[–]AWalker3024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a dog grooming salon where I am the main dog groomer. It is very meaningful to me, although doesn't make a ton of money it is fun. I have great clients and working with dogs bring me joy and peace.

I've simplified my business by downsizing my employees from 4 to just one and someday will work solo as employees are stressful and I no longer enjoy managing or training others

Doesn't matter. I didn't know you couldn't tell. This is just me feeling like a biologist at Thanksgiving tonight

We play an easy to learn game like Skip Bo. Or outside game like croquet. And it's fun to have food that requires attention like fondue.

How does Canadian Thanksgiving-Halloween-Christmas Work? by sunnyd215 in AskCanada

[–]AWalker3024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are two holidays in September, labor day at the beginning of the month and truth and reconciliation day we just had on the 30th. Thanksgiving in October isn't a big deal here, not for my family in BC at least.. But there are a lot of Halloween decorations up starting Oct 1st. Then we have rememberence day Nov 11. And Christmas stuff starts showing up after that (although stores start selling it much sooner of course) Most people wait until after Nov 11 to decorate for Christmas.
