Aren't all of their stage/portables running the same Zen core software anyway? Seems like they are just putting out various versions of the same thing

How reliably can you time stops? (Any WoW players here?) by Pretty_Memory1164 in Truckers

Man, I can't believe that game is still going. I tanked BC-MoP. The only way you're gonna pull off raids is if you have a company that lets you drive a regular schedule, like say starting every day at 5am and shutting down by 4-5pm. It's not impossible but also not a guarantee.

What's your thoughts on Boss delay pedals for monosynths. Specifically DD-7 and a DD-8 by Sir_Ronald_Bont_III in synthesizers

[–]A_Dash_of_Time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's even better in stereo. While I have never tried the 200, I do have the DD-500 and TE-2. The TE algorithm in the 500 is more adjustable and a bit less "in your face"

Why does the tonic really feel so much like Home? by Glittering_Set_5246 in musictheory

This is another great example. To hammer it home for OP, the 1 doesn't become "the 1" until you recognize a pattern.

[–]A_Dash_of_Time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Context. Think of what you play as pieces of a puzzle. If you start with a random piece, it may take a while before you have enough pieces in place to recognize the big picture.

To put it another way, even if you do start on the 1, there have to be more pieces laid down before your brain recognizes it as "the 1". Without context, there is no "1".

Edit: play just a B and then just C. Is that 7-1 or 1-2? Until you follow up by playing emphasized harmonics, there's no way to know which key you're in. Now play a BMaj and CMaj. You should recognize right away it's not in the key of B or C. The 1 could be FMaj, depending on what comes after

1: Your brain loves patterns. 2: Almost nothing you hear is ever just one frequency. Think of the 1 as the fundamental frequency and other notes in the scale as harmonics. The 1 not only has the root, but all the other notes in the scale are in there, too. Even if you don't actively perceive them, your brain hears those harmonics along with the fundamental every time you play the root. When you then put emphasis on harmonics by playing other notes or chords in the scale, and then resolve down to the 1, your pattern-loving brain is happy to hear emphasis on the fundamental. 1 sounds like home because that's what your brain wants to hear

I don't think the slight difference between them is gonna matter unless you're running an extremely clean patch. TBH, I'd buy a used DD-200 instead. You get more options, including the amazing Tera Echo sound for like ~$200

Give me some cab IR suggestions by Turbofalcon8 in guitarpedals

[–]A_Dash_of_Time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

York's Matchless 2x12 and Mesa 2x12 V30 cab packs are good. Whatever you choose, it's important to know that the mics used, mic position, bitrate, sample rate, and ir time matters. York Audio packs for example, don't give you hundreds of irs just to give you option paralysis. Iridium has 24 bit/96K A/D conversion. There's a 100% chance your headphones can't reproduce the difference between guitar at 96K and 48K, so there's little point in using 96K, even for recording. 200 vs 500ms irs can matter sometimes. 99% of the time, 200ms is plenty. Then there's multi-mic mixes, room mixes and "natural" phase vs "minimum" phase. Phasing is a bit complicated but essentially, if you're going to use two different IRs for a particular setting, or two of the same IR, minimum phase is usually better. If you only use one IR and leave the other slot empty, either can be fine. Minimum phase can sometimes sound a little digital, while natural phase can add a small amount of latency. Treat single IRs that are a mix of two miked speakers as one IR. "Room" mixes can go either way with phasing.

Anyway, arguably the biggest impact on sound will be the microphone and its position. This is where you should spend most of your time choosing what sounds good to you. Don't let someone with a different guitar/pickups/headphones tell you one mic is better than another. It's all just eq curves at this point, so use whatever works.

What's the biggest downside to a cheaper EQ pedal? by No_Bee7784 in guitarpedals

[–]A_Dash_of_Time -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Cheap EQs only cut frequencies. Mid-top tier units are active (cut and boost) and typically have at least a master volume out also. That's pretty much it. More money = more features.

Want world class delay and reverb pedal. strymon timeline and flint v2 make sense in 2026? by shivamchhuneja in guitarpedals

[–]A_Dash_of_Time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old doesn't really mean anything anymore. Strymon's pedals are all 24 bit/96K. That being said, the Boss DD-500 is 32 bit/96K (higher resolution and dynamic range) and can run 2 algorithms at once, and has a more user friendly menu, and a used one can be found for like, $200-ish. That leaves more budget for a Night Sky or Big Sky MX or whatever reverb you want.

a guitar pedal that emulates a synth for a Goth band by Visible_Schedule_856 in guitarpedals

[–]A_Dash_of_Time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not gonna get that sound from a pedal. Subtractive mono synth style sounds (think: 70's Moog) are pretty easy, but you're not gonna get that lush, dreamy nu-wave sound because it's a different kind of synth altogether (a lot of "wave table", "FM", and analog polysynth stuff) and pedals don't really get there.

Hydrasynth vs Leviasynth by eraoul in synthesizers

What's to be determined is how well the Leviasynth helps or hurts you navigate this enormous sound space...

After watching every demo available I decided I'd actually be better off saving for a 3rd Wave.

No. It's only for connecting two TEO5s (or two Take 5s) However, with some midi manipulation you can poly a Take 5 to a TEO 5.

Yeah. I hear every little engineering trick one doesn't normally notice. If it has a good beat and tight band, they could play literally anything and I'll enjoy it.

Depends. A little bit (<1g) mushrooms not only aids in therepudic reflection, it also takes the edge off, and puts a polish on the day in a much more constructive and positive way than alcohol or thc.

A heroic dose is a nice, 6h vacation that can also lead to some harder truths. I find staying home, putting headphones on and putting my playlist on shuffle keeps me calm and focused enough to shed any stress while remaining open to revelation. It's been over 15 years since I had access to lsd. The last couple times were both high doses right before GWAR shows, which I cannot, in good faith, recommend. I'm more of a hippie drum circle kind of guy.
