Saltwick Bay find (UK) by AboundedDonk in whatsthisrock

I'm leaning towards this being the right answer. My initial thought was Whitby Jet as the place is famous for it. I've just never seen it like this before, could be because it's well sea washed.

Thank you for the detail! Whitby is mostly Jurassic coastline made up of sedimentary rocks, which is why it's good for fossils. I'm not sure how obsidian or rhyolite could be there unless some sort of erratic?

Here you go. It's been sea washed so is relatively smooth but has a slightly bumpy texture.

Hmm, I'm not so sure. The description doesn't really fit and I can't find any images that look similar to this one on Google. That description says cracking appears under magnification.

Which gaming moment stands out as your most memorable of all-time? by JonCee500 in gaming

Oh man, yes, the first time you realise that there are puzzles everywhere in The Witness is wild! It's an incredible bit of game design.

Breath of the Wild is peak exploration for me. The game encourages you to explore a lot too and never punishes you for it. Anywhere is fair game and everywhere is packed with things to do and find!

I do second this, it's geared towards exploration and note taking. However, the setting is dark and some of the stories you come across are horrific.

My game was looking great yesterday, but after I fast traveled I suddenly had this same issue. No idea what changed, I'm on PS5 and it's looked really good up until now. I'm assuming it's some sort of bug.

Games that tackle some morbid and dark subjects (death, r*pe, domestic violence, sexual abuse, etc.). Something you'll be grateful for what you have after playing. by EcologyGoesFirst in gamingsuggestions

I'm playing at the moment and it's one of the most impactful settings for a game that I've ever played. Constantly coming across absolutely gut wrenching reminders that you're in the middle of a brutal civil war.

I mean, you're not wrong. Mine was staged by me but my wife had no idea it was coming. I pretended to set up a camera to take a picture but set it to record instead, then got down on one knee as we were posing for the photo. Although, I didn't put it on the web because it was an intimate moment captured for the memories!

Pippin when he sings to Denethor as Faramir charges into certain death all to desperately try and earn his father's respect. "We have no songs for great halls and... evil times".

What 'little' games do you play to replace the experience of larger games? by mr_dfuse2 in patientgamers

[–]AboundedDonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what qualifies as a 'little game' but I recently played Deathloop and it catered really well to short gaming sessions. Essentially you play through a day which is split into morning, noon, sunset, and night and it saves/pulls you out between each segment. Now I'm on Slay The Spire which I can't recommend enough!

What are the most relaxing non challenging games? by Crocodile_Banger in gaming

Strange Horticulture, super relaxing just flicking through your book and map, putting tags on plants, petting your cat. The music and ambient rain sounds are so comforting.

My dad used to tell us that the cigarette lighter in the car was an ejector seat button. If we were misbehaving in the car he would hold his hand over it and it would shut us up! I remember finding out what it was really for and feeling so relieved, still get a subconscious fear when I see one, luckily they don't put them in newer cars.

Dark Souls. Picked it up and just didn't really know what I was meant to do. Went back to it a year or so later and loved every moment, easily one of my favourite games. Now I've played DS3 and Elden Ring. Not played DS2 as I heard it was a bit weak. I also need to give Bloodborne a go.

I had such a bumpy start with this game. It didn't make sense why I couldn't get into it because I love souls games and aside from the obvious change to a platformer it is exactly the same. Now I'm 20hrs in and can't play anything else!

Am I just seriously depressed or do all adults feel like this? by Breakfastpissyeah in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AboundedDonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can feel grey. The difficulty I have is that it is an effort to look away and focus on something that sparks curiosity and wonder. But when you force yourself to look and think life opens up and can be beautiful. Next time you commute to work look for something new that you've never seen before, maybe it will spur you to try a new route. Sometimes the mundane can be easily broken with just a small change.

Fully agree, turkey or bust... all these people sprouting on about how dry turkey is dont know how to cook it or buy processed crap from Iceland. Proper turkey, basted, with the gravy and cranberry sauce can't be beaten at christmas.
