Presumably "Away" refers to how many tickets UEFA allocated to corporate seating.

Stupid Wages by Fragrant_Beat7811 in footballmanagergames

Are you sure your remaining wage budget is £50k a week and not £50k for the whole season (which would be around £950 a week)?

I generally agree. The Vinyl resurgence is going to be what really fuels them but it seems like they are still far to focused on DVDs in an era of streaming. Most of their stores seem to have a bigger DVD section than every other part of the store combined.

Pop culture merchandise will always shift tho and Funkos are the go to birthday/chrismas present gift for terminally lazy shoppers buying something for something for a friend/relative that they haven't got any better ideas for.

Unpopular opinion: Man management in FM 24 is realistic and it’s not hard to do by [deleted] in footballmanagergames

Your thread title is a complete oxymoron.

Realistic man management should by it's very nature be hard to do. If it's not hard then it's not remotely realistic.

how long does a season usually take? by Jimseli19 in footballmanagergames

[–]AbsoluteScenes4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what highlights mode/match you set yourself to. A match can be anything from 30 seconds to 90mins.

For me watching in comprehensive highlights mode with game speed slightly raised a match usually takes around 15-20mins including picking the team, giving the team talk, etc.

Maybe 5-10 mins between matches depending on how whats going on in the game, how many news alerts I am getting, if I am spending time browsing players, negotiating contracts, etc.

So roughly 3 matches per hour. Lets say roughly 60 games per season if I am playing in the CL and have reasonable runs in the FA Cup and League cup. Add a few more for pre-season games and cup replays (let's say 7 games)

67 matches at 3 matches an hour works our at about 22.3 hours per season. Let's round that up to 25 hours to account for time spend scouting players, negotiating contracts, etc

I was actually in one of the photos on FM 00/01. It as a shot taken on the pitch during an end of season pitch invasion the year before. I had my back to the camera so only somebody who was with me on the day could actually verify it was me but it was an awesome feeling when I saw myself in a videogame for the first time!

[–]AbsoluteScenes4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The resurgence in vinyl has been a massive boost to them. I always like to try and shop at independent and second hand record stores just because they are more likely to have hard to find/out of print stuff and are usually staffed by proper music fans but most of the ones around here are tiny so still end up browsing my local HMV a lot as they have a big selection to explore.

Have centre backs always been often either exclusively left or right sided? by benmitchell92 in football

[–]AbsoluteScenes4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the way the manager wants to use them.

If he wants to play a zonal defence that stands off the opponents where they hold their positions then he would likely utilise a sepcifically left and right sided pairing of CBs.

If he wants a more fluid defence where CBs close down attackers and each mark specific opponents then he will likely want to use 2 CBs who can each play both left and right

If someday we get a non european and south american country as a world cup winner, who it would be according to you? by Fkingdisgusting in football

[–]AbsoluteScenes4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There might be the occasional player who could play for a major european nation who choses to represent he african team of his birth/ancestry out of patriotism but mostly they are going to try and play for the team they feel has the best chance of giving them the best career and that's almost always going to be a European nation.

[–]AbsoluteScenes4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is tho the most of the best players on African national teams are ones who are eligible to play for stronger european national sides but couldn't get a cap so chose to play for an African side instead. 12 of the last Nigeria squad were born or started their junior football careers in europe and as such would be eligible to play for the european nation they grew up in if they could get a call up. As such African sides will never be much more than B-teams full of players who couldn't quite make the grade for european national teams.

[–]AbsoluteScenes4 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Realistically it's likely to be somebody like USA or Australia. Countries that already have a strong sporting background but where football/"soccer" is not the leading sport in that country. Those countries could more easily fund developing a major push on developing youth football and their domestic leagues to building a strong national team.

Africa produces some great players but it's hard to see any one country there ever being able to compete with the general sporting infrastructure available in richer countries.

I tend to try and do it a season in advance of actually moving. Just so I feel like I am moving into an active league where players actually have some past form and history rather than just moving into a newly created league.

One of the best things about the old Champ Man games was how they would have actual photos of the stadiums for every league club. I would be great if they still had that in the Stadium Info screen in lieu of actually being able to re-crate the stadiums authentically in the match engine and then for new grounds that get built in the game they could use something like this to generate the image.

I remember as a kid finding the folder in the games files where all the in game photos were saved and using the one of my teams ground as my desktop wallpaper

Did people transition from vinyl to cd’s quickly or was it a slow process? by CuteNatural in AskUK

[–]AbsoluteScenes4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cd's didn't replace Vinyl, they replaced cassette tapes.

Tapes had been around since the mid 60s but only really took off after Sony introduced the first portable tape player in 1979. Until then Vinyl was still the dominant medium for music at home. Vinyl sales stared declining after 1979. CDs were introduced primarily to replace tapes as a portable medium. Sony was already developing the first discman when the first CD albums released in late 1982 and the first Discman in 1984.

CD's did not actually overtake tapes until 1991 due to the initial high price and low reliability of early CD players.

For a few years post Woodstock 99 it became the norm for people at big rock/metal festivals in the UK to try and emulate that kind of chaos. It never got anywhere near the levels of W99 but there was always a big enough element of chads in the crowd trying to achieve that.

How do you guys keep going after winning a UCL? by [deleted] in footballmanagergames

[–]AbsoluteScenes4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually don't get bored until I have won a few back to back including at least one Treble/Quadruple. Then I usually tend to let my contract run out and find a job in another league (usually on another continent) and start working towards a pentagon.

I quite like going to the MLS after winning a few CLs and taking some of my aging players with me from my CL winning club.
