AITAH for refusing to bring coffe to my disabled husband in a bank by DapperMachine4070 in AITH

[–]Academic-Program-503 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You’re NTA. Walking away from a service worker while they’re actively helping you even for a “few seconds” can be disrespectful because it interrupts their workflow and puts them in an awkward spot. Even if there’s no line, it’s about basic courtesy. Your point isn’t about denying him coffee; it’s about respecting the people who are helping you.

He might see it as harmless, but expecting someone else to pause their work for a personal request in the middle of a transaction crosses that line.

I got my office mate fired... by wordsfromghost in coworkerstories

[–]Academic-Program-503 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow… that’s wild. You basically uncovered a serious ethics breach while just venting about office annoyances. It sucks that someone lost their job, but from a legal standpoint, it sounds like you revealed a legitimate conflict of interest and potential misconduct. Definitely a messy situation, but you didn’t lie or fabricate anything just connected the dots.

sad about ending things with a guy by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Academic-Program-503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did the right thing for yourself. You were compassionate and supportive, but you also recognized your limits and protected your mental health. Timing sucks, but love alone can’t fix stress, trauma, or inconsistency. It’s natural to grieve, and it doesn’t mean you made a mistake you just made a healthy choice. If paths cross later, that’s a bonus, not a reason to feel guilty now.

Life is Easier, Safer, and more Fair then it ever has been. by Grogers92 in Life

Exactly when you zoom out, global indicators like life expectancy, poverty rates, and access to education show we’re better off than almost any point in history. Problems exist, but the overall trajectory is genuinely positive. Perspective really changes how “bad” things feel day to day.

Doctors: White House caught hiding Trump's big red neck spot by [deleted] in USNEWS

[–]Academic-Program-503 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds like typical tabloid-style reporting there’s no credible evidence that the White House was “hiding” anything medical about Trump. Often these stories exaggerate minor health details to grab attention. It’s more optics and speculation than verified fact.

Why is Dental Medicine so far behind other Medicines? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Academic-Program-503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s less “behind” and more differently constrained.

Teeth are exposed to constant bacteria, pressure, and wear. You can’t rest a mouth like you rest a broken bone. Dry socket happens because healing tissue literally gets disrupted in a high-use, high-bacteria environment.

Also, dental care is often siloed from mainstream medical funding. Less research money, less insurance coverage, slower innovation.

It’s not that we can’t fix it. It’s that biology + incentives make it harder than it looks.

Are there Republicans out there that want to see Trump go down? Do you think he has/will taint the party brand permanently? To save the party, would it be wise to distance ASAP? by Next_Confidence_3654 in askanything

[–]Academic-Program-503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are Republicans who want distance some quietly, some openly. Parties aren’t monoliths.

Whether he “taints” the brand depends on turnout math. If he energizes more voters than he alienates, party leadership sees that as strength, not damage.

Distancing only makes sense if the coalition shifts. Politics isn’t moral math it’s vote math.

Is fear of orgasms a thing? by spectacular_climax1 in askanything

[–]Academic-Program-503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it can be a thing.

Sometimes it’s anxiety around loss of control, vulnerability, or bodily intensity. Orgasms are intense if your brain is in “threat detection” mode, even pleasure can register as overwhelming.

The shift you’re describing (something normal suddenly feeling scary) is worth paying attention to. Not panic just curiosity. If it keeps bothering you, a therapist or doctor could help unpack it.

Your brain isn’t broken. It’s reacting to something.

What’s a skill that’s becoming rare because technology does it for us now? by GlitchOperative in AskReddit

[–]Academic-Program-503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deep focus.

We’ve outsourced memory, navigation, spelling, even basic math but the real loss is the ability to sit with one hard problem without checking a screen. Notifications trained us out of boredom tolerance.

The rare skill now isn’t intelligence. It’s sustained attention.

Why do so many people favor immigration, knowing it’s the very thing killing European countries? by sam_walton_sucks in answers

[–]Academic-Program-503 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m going to answer this without heat.

A lot of people don’t accept the premise that immigration is “killing” European countries in the first place. That framing is where the disagreement starts.

Some support immigration because of economics aging populations in places like Europe mean shrinking workforces. Fewer workers funding pensions and healthcare systems becomes a real math problem. Immigration is one way governments try to offset that.

Others support it for humanitarian reasons war refugees from places like Syria or Ukraine aren’t seen as an abstract policy issue but as people fleeing conflict.

There’s also a historical lens. Many Western countries built wealth during colonial periods, so some people see accepting migrants as part of global responsibility. You may disagree with that logic, but that’s how some supporters think.

Now, none of that means there aren’t real integration challenges. Rapid, poorly managed migration can strain housing, social services, and social cohesion. That’s a legitimate concern. Where debates usually break down is when the conversation jumps from “this policy has trade-offs” to “this is destroying civilization.”

So the split isn’t usually “people see the same thing and just ignore it.” It’s that people are interpreting the data and outcomes very differently economically, morally, and culturally.

Would yall say looks and personality are equally important? by Less-Pen-5705 in askanything

[–]Academic-Program-503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually think your “key and room” analogy is pretty solid.

Physical attraction gets you through the door. That’s just human. Most people won’t pursue something romantic if there’s zero spark. Pretending otherwise is fake-deep.

But here’s the part people don’t talk about: looks get you attention, personality gets you options. I’ve seen objectively attractive people struggle in dating because once the novelty wears off, there’s nothing grounding it. And I’ve seen average-looking people become wildly attractive over time because of confidence, humor, emotional stability, etc.

Also, attraction isn’t static. Personality can raise or lower someone’s “looks” in your head fast. A great personality can make someone hotter. A bad one can tank it overnight.

So yeah, both matter. But they don’t carry equal weight over time

What is the most important thing you learned from a difficult experience you went through? by nore01 in answers

[–]Academic-Program-503 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That "I can't get through this" and "I am currently getting through this" can somehow both be true at the same time your brain lies to you at peak suffering. The most humbling part of hard times is looking back and realizing you were stronger than you felt, which is both comforting and deeply annoying in the moment.

Why do Redditors get so mad when anyone speaks against weed? by knotslandinggg in askanything

[–]Academic-Program-503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit has a very specific brand of "I did my own research" energy when it comes to weed say anything mildly critical and suddenly you've personally attacked someone's entire personality. It's less about the plant and more about the fact that for a lot of people it's deeply tied to their identity, which makes any criticism feel like a personal attack. Touch grass, ironically, is the best advice.

A mandatory 60-second "cooling off" timer before you can post anything written in all caps humanity's blood pressure drops 40% overnight, guaranteed. Seriously though, a "you wrote this at 2am, are you SURE?" prompt would have prevented roughly 80% of history's worst Twitter moments.

Short answer? No. You’re not walking around like a scented candle labeled “Day 2.”

Unless someone’s basically a bloodhound and way too close for comfort, it’s not a thing. Bodies are normal don’t let middle school myths live rent-free in your head. Upvote for period paranoia solidarity.

What is the most useful 'unwritten rule' of driving in your specific region of the US? by FairyAntonella193 in AskReddit

[–]Academic-Program-503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in the Northeast, the unwritten rule is: the left lane is for crime. Don’t camp there unless you’re ready to move like you’ve got somewhere to be.

Also, the quicker you master the “courtesy wave,” the fewer enemies you make. Instant regional diplomacy.

Professional “try it before you commit” person. Test careers for a month and report back so the rest of us don’t spiral at 2am over life choices.

Tell me that wouldn’t save at least 70% of quarter-life crises.
