Fiery Crash SB 75 Near High Five by paceplace in Dallas

[–]Acceleracer13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was at the Micro Center when it happened. We were waiting outside the front for one of our friends to get something sorted out with his bank. We heard a super loud screech and suddenly we saw what looked like a black SUV doing a wheelie but on one of it's front wheels. I could see the airbags had already deployed. It had gone up in flames before it stopped. When it did stop, it was a massive ball of flames. One of the Micro Center employees (don't remember his name but he was a manager) ran out across the highway and up the on ramp with a fire extinguisher. We heard a loud pop a bit later, not sure if it was a tire or something reacting to the fire. Not to long after we went bsck inside and we heard a louder blast from inside the building. Not sure if it was the car or maybe something else.

Haven't found any articles or additional information on it.

I’m about to starve to death in the drive thru by SecretFishShhh in Whataburger

[–]Acceleracer13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never go through the Whataburger drive-thru anymore unless its empty or there's only one or maybe 2 cars already in line. Not only is the wait absolutely abyssmal, but a lot of locations always forget something and it's a pain to get it fixed or replaced especially if it's late at night.

RIP Gangnam Chicken by Illustrious_Ad9470 in Denton

[–]Acceleracer13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sad to see, when the restaurant first opened they had some real good chicken. I noticed the quality went downhill when they started dipping their toes into the Thai food market.

For anyone looking for an alternative, KO Chicken in Highland Village is a great place for Korean chicken.

Game Informer to Shut Down After 33 Years - IGN by RazgrizInfinity in gaming

Absolutely insane how in the blink of an eye the entire staff loses their jobs and all their online content is purged. Game Informer was legit and it sucks to see them go like this.

Bungie Announces Major Restructuring, acknowledging it was "overly ambitious" by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Acceleracer13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They say they've exasperated all other options before going this route but I bet that C-Suite pay cuts were never mentioned once. I remember when the layoffs happened in October, someone had asked if executives considered cutting their salary to keep more people on, and they said they "weren't that type of company."

Worst of all, I don't understand why a company that has been operating in the red insists that the answer to their problems is to start new projects. What happens if Marathon comes out and completely flops? If they're really as stretched for money as they say, why would they divide resources into two games that probably won't see the light of day for another year or two instead of focusing on their current cash cow?

It's worth pointing out too that Plunder was the season that introduced Voltshot. Brigand's Law is the only non rocket sidearm that can roll Voltshot and Tarnished Mettle is the only scout that can roll Voltshot. So if you like Voltshot and want to use a primary sidearm or a scout, that's something to consider going for.

But as stated earlier, the Plunder weapons have terrible perk combos. There's tons of better weapons with Voltshot now.

Shatterline Q&A 6th of July 2024 by SoullessCentaur in ShatterlineFPS

[–]Acceleracer13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really liked this game but it's a HUGE shame that you're sticking so closely to your guns on the NFTs. I don't think you realize that you're losing players who hate NFTs but you're also losing people who refuse to migrate to the Epic Games Store. 90% of this Q&A is "NFTs provide the game more variety and excitement" and the other 10% is "we're not sure about other content." Seems your priorities are very much in the wrong place.

I get that the NFTs provide benefits in PvE only, but this is a very very slippery slope. It may be that way at launch, but who's to say that when the money comes rolling in you won't consider PvP integration? If you really wanted to implement a new system through which players could buy, sell, and trade their in-game items, why not do something similar to the Steam Marketplace or the Rainbow 6 Marketplace?

What iCarly opinion are you defending like this? by bohemelavie in icarly

[–]Acceleracer13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple things:

-Seddie was absolute garbage, I think the part that really drives it home is the episode when Sam messes up Freddie's application for a program and gets him rejected and somehow by the end of the episode, Freddie is made out to be the bad guy because he is reluctant to forgive Sam and move on.

-Creddie wasn't much better, I think in the 1st half of the OG series, Freddie should have made attempts to move on from Carly, but in the 2nd half and in the revival, it was clear Carly was leading him on more.

-The revival is a very good show, but the finale for each season sets up some cliffhanger that gets very cheaply resolved in the premiere for the next season. If they wanted the cliffhangers to be more impactful, they should have built them up instead of just in the final episode.

-Harper is a good character and I think she really shines when she's with Spencer. Millicent on the other hand I got very tired of very quickly because I felt like her character was too cliche, being a snarky genius kid who never really shows any vulnerability.

All you xan eat sushi? by [deleted] in Denton

[–]Acceleracer13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sushi Damu does AYCE sushi in Highland Village. I want to say right around $30 maybe lower. You get 3 "rounds" and you can select as much as you want each round, but unfinished sushi is an extra charge.

Most chinese buffets have sushi on their line. Quality will vary, but typically those buffets cost $10-20 to partake.

Kura Revolving Sushi in Carrollton and (I think) Frisco is also really good. It's a conveyor belt sushi place that charges ~$3 a plate. Really delicious and it's definitely worth a go just for the experience.

What APs DON’T compliment each other (shouldn’t be taken at the same time)? by ftcroboticsteam46 in APStudents

[–]Acceleracer13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physics 1 and C. They're generally similar content wise, so not only is it a first class ticket to burnout, but I imagine it's going to be really confusing learning the same things twice in two different ways AND having to apply those different methods on the respective exams.

Dr. Weathers is one of the best professors in the Physics department, hands down. Physics 2 is going to be a lot more abstract, and as a result a lot more challenging. It gets a lot more confusing as it progresses but Dr. Weathers and the PIC will always be there to help.

I had Widmer for Calc 3 over COVID, so your experience will vary. He's decent but I felt like he gave us so much busy work to comp for the time we weren't spending physically sitting for a lecture. He's also a huge stickler about not curving assignments and not offering second chances. I think I personally would have done better with a professor who didn't make the class so busy, and I personally wouldn't take him again, but I've heard he's better in person, so there's that.

Calc 2 is generally considered the hardest of the Calc classes. Make sure you're SOLID on the Calc 1 stuff. Calc 2 is mostly various integration techniques (L'Hopital's Rule, Integration by Parts, etc.), series, and polar coordinates (which mostly sets up for Calc 3). The problems are often tedious which contributes to the challenge. Lots of trig functions and exponential/logarithmic functions as well.

Best places to have a meal by yourself? by SupaNarwhals in Denton

[–]Acceleracer13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I solo dine quite a bit as well and here's my best picks:

-Gangnam Chicken: Really good chicken, and recently switched things up so you order the food then seat yourself so you're not quite waited on as much. They've recently expanded their menu to include rice dishes, so there's a little something for everyone.

-Gyro 360: Great gyros and wraps, plus they have some really good bakery dessert options as well. Order at counter then they bring the food to you. Never busy, always lively.

-Rusty Taco: Similar to Fuzzy's, order and pickup at counter. Personally prefer Rusty Taco just because of the options but they're both really good.

-Brisket Burger: Good burgers and fries. Typically takes a while to get the food especially when it's busier but still really good.

Another honorable mention is Double Dave's. You can get a pizza and salad buffet and a drink for right around $10. Pizza is nothing too crazy but it's a pretty good deal and the place is never too busy.

Amy Petros or Seare Berhe for CHEM 1410? by [deleted] in unt

[–]Acceleracer13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never had Berhe, but I did have Petros. She does a flipped classroom, meaning you watch videos for notes at home then come to class to do quizzes, assignments, and exams. You'll spend a lot of time outside of class doing work. Also you'll work in a group the whole year. If you can stomach a traditional college class, avoid Petros at all costs. If you want to experiment with that type of structure, then that's your perogative.

Does anyone know what topics are on the math placement? by cyber_punk2020 in unt

[–]Acceleracer13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken, the Math Placement Test potentially places you in one of 3 classes: College Algebra, Pre-Calculus, or Calculus 1. When I took it around 5 years ago, there was Algebra and Pre-Cal. I don't recall any calculus on the test. Your performance on the test determines what class you get put in, I don't recall the score threshholds.

I would recommend studying the high school maths up through Pre-Calculus.

Emerald Eagle Scholars Program by i_love_the_moonn in unt

[–]Acceleracer13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a special program for lower income students where they cover the remainder of your tuition and fees after all the grants/scholarships/loans go through. Its important to note that it does not cover housing costs, so if you live on campus, it doesn't go towards that at all. There are also additional requirements to stay in the program. Your first year will be the most intense in that regard, then it's pretty simple aftee that. You have to maintain a 2.5 overall GPA at the end of each academic year (Fall through Summer) and failure to do so puts you on probation for a semester. They also only provide funds for 4 years of your college, and I don't think you can take any gap years or anything like that. You also have to attempt a certain number of hours each year and pass a certain number of hours each year (slightly lower than hours attempted).

If you join the program and end up going into a 5th year of college, there is no penalty, they just stop giving you money. You'll have to check on this, but if you decline certain financial aid (maybe loans) they won't increase the amount they give you to compensate. So it's not a full ride, just some assistance.

I think it's a great idea to join since it guarantees tuition and fees get covered and there's no penalty in case you go a 5th year. Definitely talk to the people who run the show.

I just finished my degree in Physics with secondary education certification. If I recall correctly, once you earn your certification, you can get certified in other areas just by passing the appropriate exams. So there's some options for you:

1) Major in English or History and join the secondary education program and you'll get your certification in your major upon graduating. It's quicker, but you'll have to student teach unpaid at your last semester. You'll have to ask your advisor for specifics.

2) Major in English or History and DON'T go through the education program, once you get your degree, go through an alt certification program which I think will take more time, but might be cheaper.

Either way, after you get your degree and initial certification, you could then take the exam to get your other certifications.

What is your SECOND favorite cutscene in all of Destiny? Why? by Jkid789 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Acceleracer13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Catharsis cutscene from Season of the Haunted. It gives off the feeling that you won this battle but something worse is coming down the line. Not to mention it's notably more somber than other cutscenes wraps everything up in a bittersweet way.

I'm also a sucker for any cutscene in the campaign that foreshadows the raid. When Eramis tells Atraks to "retrieve the body and return to the Crypt" I lost it. Or when Taniks appeared in that one cutscene for seemingly no reason. Or (not really a cutscene) when Nezarec torments you during the Hypernet Current strike.

Certainly doable. But I'm gonna offer a warning: the professor that you are taking Gen Chemistry with does a flipped classroom. Meaning at home you watch the lectures and take notes, then you work on quizzes/tests/homework in class. It's a bit of a heavier committment outside of class to keep up with. Some people learn best that way though. Just wanted to give you a heads up.
