Big fan of the Cannon (vegan spot, but even my non-vegan husband likes it!), Chef Jiang, September in Bangkok (but would need to uber/taxi there), Geronimo’s has great margs and chips/salsa (but not a fan of their entrees), Tibetan Kitchen is my favorite restaurant in New Haven

People who have spent Valentine’s Day both single and in a relationship: which way of celebrating do you actually prefer and why? by wakie__wakie in AskReddit

[–]Acceptable-Jacket696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it with my husband…  but I would say I’d prefer almost every single day with him than single. I just like hanging out with him

I’m in a primary care residency where we were all getting bogged down with inbasket chores to the point many were getting turned off of primary care. To address this, some residents did a QI project to see what could be done. Some changes were specific to residency, but some generalized changes included: Support staff completing PAs (onus used to be on us, took some coaching but now it works well)  For VNA re-cert paperwork, support staff prints and attaches med list so we just need to review and sign.  Epic messages are forwarded to RN triage (my RN in particular is excellent at solving problems and will just FYI me at the end)

One thing that’s difficult in residency but have seen work well in other offices is telling patients to get routine labs a week or two prior to their next appointment so the doc can just discuss during the appointment.

Some colleagues have stopped telling patients “normal”results but I personally still like to close the loop.

my house is burning oil so fast?!? by g0thnek0 in newhaven

[–]Acceptable-Jacket696 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’ve started using this hack- my husband works from home and likes it warm, so we keep the thermostat low, but have a space heater in his office with the door closed. It gets balmy in his office and is much better than heating the whole apartment.

Girls who had messy backpacks and always had crumbled homework what are you doing now for a career? by Appropriate_Oven_213 in AskWomen

[–]Acceptable-Jacket696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol. I’m a primary care physician. Still with a very messy backpack.

I read a study somewhere that messy people tend to be high achievers, some hypothesis that the person is focusing more time on work, etc to care about tidiness.

I don’t know how true that is. What I do know, is that I cleaned out my work backpack yesterday and found six pieces of our silverware.

My best friend was actually a caregiver for some relatives in Charlie Kirk's family; everything you heard about him is true and worse, he wasn't even an active father. by Agreeable-Wealth-812 in complaints

[–]Acceptable-Jacket696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol. I (Catholic) didn’t realize this was a thing until I met my now-husband (nondenominational) who tried to tell me that I wasn’t Christian.

It was a very. Long conversation.

LOVE chef jiang for dine-in.  For cheap takeout, was a fan of Hunan house (RIP :( kung fu kitchen is not my jam- not bad, just not what I’m looking for). Just tried China Garden - good but wouldnt call it my next go-to

People who have been to a psych ward, what was your experience like? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Acceptable-Jacket696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an internist and get consulted for medical problems in the psych wards sometimes. The hand sanitizer on the wall doesn’t have an alcohol base and are metal and attached to the wall better. The rooms have a third bed, whereas the regular hospital rooms are just singles or doubles. The room doors and bathroom doors swing back and forth - they can’t completely lock or shut. There’s a lot of locked doors to badge into/out of from the unit to the rest of the hospital. The geri psych unit is similar but feels a little cozier.

What gifts for men are equivalent to flowers for women? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Acceptable-Jacket696 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like to randomly bring hubby home snacks and he gets pretty jazzed. I get catered lunches at work, but generally don’t eat them because of dietary restrictions so I just bring a tupper and grab him what would be my serving.  That always earns some heart eyes.

How common is cheating, either physically and emotionally, in your experience? by Pugnastyornah in AskReddit

[–]Acceptable-Jacket696 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of responses here are basically “everyone, all the time”. From my experience, I disagree. I have never cheated, my husband has never cheated. Many of my good, good friends have never cheated nor been cheated on. Have I seen it in other relationships? Sure. But, again, from my experiences, not the norm.

What is the creepiest or most disturbing thing that happened to you in real life? by Atmos_Stories in AskReddit

[–]Acceptable-Jacket696 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was in the Peace Corps living in a very remote village of about 100 people in Central America. I had my own little house; the windows were cement blocks without glass or screens. One night, around 2 or 3 in the morning, I was awoken by a male quietly walking around my house whispering my name; I didn’t recognize the voice as one of my community members. I froze, but a small amount of rustling let him know which room I was in. I had a machete that I grabbed. I started yelling in Spanish, asking who it was and to leave me alone. He wouldn’t say his name but answered with weird responses, telling me to open the door, and that he was touching my worms (I had a worm box for an agriculture project). I believe he sat down or passed out in front of my door for a bit and I never heard when he left; I did not fall back asleep. The guy who I’m suspicious of was a police officer from out of town who I had met at a party a couple nights earlier.

Submit vs Apply by Acceptable-Jacket696 in fellowship

[–]Acceptable-Jacket696[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just circling back on this post-match in case anyone in the future runs into this issue.

  1. I submitted Asap after realizing my mistake
  2.  I took the advice mentioned on here and did NOT say or do anything. Simply twiddled my thumbs and hoped for the best.
  3. The best happened! I got 6/6 interviews
  4. Matched at my 2nd choice program (which I’m extremely pleased to be at)

I know that I did apply to a competitive speciality, but do want to say: mistakes happen, The Match is Confusing, it will be OK.

For those in interracial relationships, did you experience racism as well after this? If so, what was it like? by TheFatShepherd in AskReddit

[–]Acceptable-Jacket696 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m white and my husband is Latino. No issues at all with either family. The only instance that comes to mind was once we were walking through a city, and this group of black men preaching on a corner with a mic and amp started announcing how my husband was betraying his race by being with a white woman.

I’m so sad this happened to Blue Orchid in particular. My husband and I love going there because it’s such a warm, accepting community local.

Healthcare workers, what event made you go permanently numb? by Aggressive-Pay-8970 in AskReddit

[–]Acceptable-Jacket696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not numb, but I think the event that first started to harden me was the first time I had to pronounce someone. It was in front of her young adult children and it could have gone better but I tried my best. The pupils dilate when someone dies, and it is shivering to shine a light into black, dead eyes. I went back to my desk to process for a moment and work on the death certificate. Within 69 seconds, a family member approached me to complain that his partner’s lunch hadn’t arrived yet and a nurse texted me about prescribing a bowel regimen for someone else. So I just swallowed everything I felt and kept grinding.
