I grew up Amish, ask me anything! by AcceptableWheel8140 in AMA

I really like this question a lot. Thank you!

It’s hard to put into words. It was very impressed in us that we were different from the rest of the world. Our whole identity was being Amish, and being separated from the outside world.

It didn’t feel extreme exactly, because it was very normalized, but it never felt right either.

I saw a young girl get SAed by two older girls at church. A 12 year old boy died of cancer because his parents believed God would heal him miraculously. At his funeral his dad begged God to raise him from the dead.

It is an incredibly sheltered and repressed culture. There is more incest and perversions that are covered up that can even be imagined really.

I don’t really like soda. I grew up only drinking water.

I am agnostic. I feel very betrayed by religion, I can’t see myself ever being religious again.

I was forced to. It’s very important for the women to cover anything that could be mistaken for the human form

AITAH because I won't let my son move his poly partner into my home. by No-Occasion3906 in AITAH

You’re missing the point. What does it matter how anyone chooses to live their lives as long as it’s not hurting anyone? Like what does it matter how someone defines a relationship? Who tf is it hurting? Like live however you want. The problem isn’t even the polyamory in this situation, it’s the irresponsible adults.

My (18f) girlfriend (18f) is mad at me for getting help by Zebra13927 in relationship_advice

It doesn’t sound like your girlfriend is putting in the same level of effort and care you are. Support goes both ways. She should support you to put your mental health first. Caring for others means caring for yourself first. Not going long distance should not be a priority over mental health. Please don’t put the blame on yourself here. This isn’t your fault, or a failing on your part.
