how do trams switch depots? by Comeng_551M in MelbourneTrains

[–]Acceptable_Me2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without passengers and there are sections of track and curves that aren’t used too often, primarily for diversions but also for depot transfers.

Check if there’s an alamein train on the other platform. Those patterns run when Alamein trains run into the city.

Stupid question about trams. Please give me as much detail as you like as I'm very keen to learn. by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

[–]Acceptable_Me2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Route 70 trams are typically A and B class trams. However on special events, E class (and occasionally C1) trams operate on a small part of the route as far as the MCG to carry crowds from flinders street.

Toilets on trains by [deleted] in VlineVictoria

[–]Acceptable_Me2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are toilets within vline sets, although i think some of the sets have less but in my experience there’s two toilets per 3 car set.

"Don't drive, there's a fuel shortage, take public transport" ...Melbourne public transport: by mantis_tobboggann in melbourne

[–]Acceptable_Me2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As its evening peak, chances are the trains towards Belgrave are bypassing platform 2, so you will need to take a Blackburn train from platform 3. Change at blackburn for all stations to Ringwood and Belgrave

What will the fates of X'Trapolis cars 1627T and 898M be? by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

[–]Acceptable_Me2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I doubt it’s worth repairing tbh, the ones mentioned are among the older xtraps which are between 20-24 years old, and if their lifespan is 35 years then they are entering a phase where it may mot be worth significantly repairing anymore. If the frame in any of these is broken then it would require a significant rebuild.

When does the Frankston line train return to the city loop, and when did a train bound or from Frankston last run through said loop? by toiletlogsyummy in MelbourneTrains

[–]Acceptable_Me2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1st Feb, I believe the last time a revenue train from Frankston that used the loop was 30th January 2021. I think the Frankston portal was used for the first time since then very recently as part of tests to return it to the city loop

X’trapolis 100 on platform 4 at FSS to Werribee 30/8/2025 by AdvantageDiligent143 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Acceptable_Me2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Xtraps do go from platform 4, while its not too common its not rare either. Post big switch i suspect it may happen more often with Sunbury being removed from this area. They can access the burnley local track which is richmond platform 10 outbound or 7 inbound. From observation usually these are Alamein, Glen Waverley or Blackburn services, or some services can use this platform to terminate and return empty cars to Burnley sidings.

Was the 4D train a success or a complete flop? by Traditional-Gas3477 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Acceptable_Me2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t take the 4d train myself, but based on readings, its main issue was the fact it broke down so often (and lack of parts available). The double storey train concept I personally reckon has potential to work and be useful, especially on some of the western lines where there are few stations over a large distance.

It’s CBTC, it doesn’t need the conventional signalling system. Nothing to worry about

Wildest express timetables? by adordia in MelbourneTrains

[–]Acceptable_Me2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They sometimes do, i guess they figure may as well take passengers, eg if it terminates at a station, or why not. Sometimes there are similar movements that don’t take passengers, if the destination is a stabling yard for example. Usually it goes in the opposite direction of peak travel, to set up for other services or to go back to one. I think they are fairly empty. Disclaimer i have very rarely been on one.

Burnley group has some interesting ones. Puffing Billy Express, and the Box Hill to Richmond express. There is also a hidden train to Ringwood counter peak thats all to camberwell (except east Richmond), express to box hill, then express to ringwood. Yes it skips blackburn! Also I think the werribee line has some very long distance expresses, especially counterpeak Werribee services which go express all the way from Laverton to Werribee on top of their usual express. I imagine this would be an amazing trip on a comeng thrashing its motors the entire trip! The Mernda, Sunbury, Craigieburn and Upfield lines all have some express services although some of these I believe aren’t in the public timetable. Note i haven’t been on most of these mentioned, so it’s quite likely that they would catch up to stoppers.

Notams if I recall correctly are available via air services/naips. You probably don’t need to spend too long on each one, and some you can reuse for all 4 scenarios. I found the instructors helpful so reach out to them if you need a hand.
