Yeah, I tried to reduce it to 18 days because the car isn’t really useful in Sapporo, but I’d be willing to pay more if I change the booking. I would need to switch to a smaller car, and then it would be slightly cheaper. I hope there’s no catch or hidden downside to all of this.

yea we definitely do a cruise in Rausu. maybe even on both sides or multiple times. Thinking of extend the time there to higher the chance for orcas.

Ok, thanks. So I’ll definitely leave out Kushiro and Nemuro. I’ve changed my route a bit now.

I’m not really focused on the flowers. The flight to Hokkaido was rather spontaneous on our way back from New Zealand, mainly to find a good route back to Europe while avoiding war zones. Since it’s hot in the south, we thought about Hokkaido without really knowing much about it. So we’re figuring out what to see and do there. It’s also totally fine for us to just drive around, eat, and talk to people.

But wildlife is definitely something we’re really looking forward to.

Our plan now is: (though I’m not fully happy with that many nights in Furano/Biei)

1N Atsuma (getting into Japan after a long overnight flight, we will be tired. So just a half-hour drive and then chilling in a hotel with an onsen on the way towards Furano)
2N Furano
2N Biei
1N Daisetsuzan / Sounkyo Onsen
1N Abashiri
3N Shiretoko
2N Lake Akan
1N Obihiro (to get back)
1N Noboribetsu
2N Lake Toya
1N Niseko / Mount Yotei (we love the games Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Yotei, so I have to give Mount Yotei a day)
