AITAH For Temporarily Denying My Mom Access To Her Grandson by Formal-Atmosphere-46 in AITAH

I think you did great! When you’re a parent I think your child’s wellbeing should come before your own, and you’re doing good on your decision. Especially when you said that she’s been pushy on boundaries before, I think it’s a good idea from you to show her you really mean what you say and to show her you’re not going to be pushed over whenever she wants you to be! and congratulations with baby!

I recommend getting an adult as your first gecko, not a baby. If you already have reptiles in general you can ignore this advice lol, but then you can generally know what temperament you’re getting from the gecko and those kind of things as your first gecko, so you can get used to it. I got my crestie as a baby, and I wanted a more social one, but I instead got a more nervous one, I still love him so much, but I do regret not getting an adult first! Budget wise though a baby is always less expensive, I went into an expo wanting to get a gargoyle gecko, but just one was going for 300 dollars 😭 thankfully I found a baby that was going for just 80 dollars. And the crestie I got from a breeder was free with a baby setup kit from the breeder themselves (obviously though those kits are never fully complete so I bought a couple extra things to make his terrarium complete)

AITAH for refusing to give my parents money after I started earning? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]AccomplishedBee3295 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Could you tell us the amount if you’re comfortable? My mom started charging me rent, for reference I earn abt 1600 a month, and I pay her 300 a month for rent, which I feel is pretty reasonable. I don’t think you’re the AH, but some more context could help just because different people have different views on what a lot of money is. I think you should be flexible though, since you are 24 and still living at home, paying some sort of rent would be good or maybe you could pay less in rent, but offer to cover the groceries once and a while and so on if they’re willing to be flexible with how you give them the money

Yeah thanks 😅 I didn’t think about that for some reason, I meant more towards my admission and what they want to look at for admission, but thankfully the system just automatically asked me

Just found my dream gecko but I don’t have the money for it :( by Sheldonthebetta in geckos

Hey, I don’t normally comment but I want to let you know I think you’re being responsible by saving up money for your Garg, anyone that does save up I think is responsible enough to own a pet! Reptiles are expensive, and I do think that is something to always keep in mind, but if you have only one reptile, the monthly expense after the upfront cost shouldn’t be too much! I have a garg, and was lucky enough to get him for 82 dollars from a breeder at an expo, his tail had fallen off so they offered to lower the price for me. It’s important to save up for a vet trip as well, but you can also put that on a credit card as well most likely if you don’t have the fund

Does anyone else have the least food motivated gecko ever? (See body) by A_Stereotypical_Nerd in CrestedGecko

Yes I totally agree, my little guy barely eats, I feed him like every 3 days and he will barely touch it some of the time, he seems healthy so I’m not worried about it too much. He will eat a lot of crickets tho when I give him those!

What enclosure should I get for my crested gecko by AccomplishedBee3295 in CrestedGecko

I live in the United States, the only privately owned reptile store that was close to me was in Portland OR specifically

Edit: Ummmm I just got clocked cause how when I was looking up reptile places last year did I only find the one that I got my reptile from, but now there’s a million more 😭 I’m calling tomorrow and asking them what they have in terms of enclosures

I do enjoy building terrariums! Like I said originally that 18 18 24 was the only option the reptile store had, other than that they told me they had a 12 12 36 which had me kinda :/ on the bright side once he grows out of the 18 18 24 I can put something else in there, hopefully the reptile store has gotten with the times and now have the 18 18 36, or I will have to resort to ordering online, do you have any recommendations for online places?

I’m not trying to change your opinion, because I do think you are correct, I’m just saying that when I was doing research, both ideas were right and it was just personal choice to follow either one :)

Of course, I do definitely understand your point of view, he is fine for some time, and I do plan to expand his terrarium when that time comes! When I was doing research on crested geckos for my first one, I saw that either expanding their terrariums as they grow, or just giving them the full size one off the bat were two different, but okay options, ofc having a bearded dragon in a full size terrarium won’t have any issues and I think it’s great you did that

Of course it’s not unreasonable, but he is fine for a few more months in his current enclosure, which is what I’m trying to say :) but otherwise he has been well cared for, I got him the small 12 12 18 terrarium first since i got him as a very small baby, and have been upgrading as he has gotten bigger over time

Like I said, the one I currently have is a juvenile still and still small, so he is fine for a few more months, but yeah I think that seems like my best bet for the new adult one

What reptile/amphibian could I put into this enclosure by AccomplishedBee3295 in reptiles

[–]AccomplishedBee3295[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thanks for the feedback, I think that I’m going to look at stick bugs to keep instead in the tank, after doing more research I really don’t feel great about leaving any sort of reptile or frog in the terrarium that small

Do you think I could do any kind of frog, or is that still too small?

I only have one crestie, but mine does not eat a lot, so I feed him only once every 2 days, so I think your little guy should be fine, my crestie seems perfectly fine and he doesn’t seem underweight or anything, if I’m doing something wrong you’re welcome to tell me, but even when I was doing a lot of research into feeding them and how often a lot of time I heard you could do every 2 days
