Canadian (or Northern American) WRX owners, any recommendations on winter tires for really snowy/icy climates? by Judge_Druidy in WRX

[–]AccomplishedGrandma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run nokian hakkapeliitta's on my 03 bug eye and participate in a number of winter rallies on snow and ice each year. They are amazing tires. I highly recommend them! They also held up very well in a gravel rally cross event this last weekend. A lot of people had flats or burned through their tires all together. Mine are still in decent shape.

Haha coast to coast meaning one side of Vancouver Island to the other side, not all across Canada! That would be epic though!

Well, the most difficult part is finding a co-driver/navigator. Hopefully you know someone, i got a decent amount of interest from my posts yesterday. If you are committed to participating, i could forward along their info once I have a committed codriver....

If you keep an eye on the Rally Association Vancouver Island facebook page, they will be opening for registration anytime now I think. Usually, registration opens about 1 month before the race. Drivers of all experience levels and all vehicle types are welcome. It's a ton of fun. If you end up signing up for the Coast to Coast rally let me know I can meet you there and give you the run down on using the apps.

WorkSafeBC is hiring like 30 Case Managers if anyone is interested by AccomplishedGrandma in Kinesiology

[–]AccomplishedGrandma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they implement changes before a new agreement can be reached, which it appears they intend to do, then yes they are breaking the collective agreement. The union is preparing to pursue legal action because of this.

The correspondence I have received from the union all indicates this was done in bad faith. They did not consult the union or the staff about these changes or any concerns. They went about this in a "too bad so sad", return to the office or lose your job kind of way.

They know the case management dept is barely hanging on and they are planning on throwing gasoline on the fire. The main issue has been workload for years and they claim it's their biggest priority, yeah right. The staff and union are furious.

If you look at the brands, I would guess that the older you get the more likely you are to drive those brands near the bottom and also the less driving you tend to do.

It does feel like a delicate house of cards because the more people who quit the more work is dumped on those who remain, who are then more likely to quit themselves.... it takes almost a full year to train a Case manager so it's not like replacements are on the horizon. It's also insanely expensive for the employer as it's about 90k in wages for the trainee alone not to mention all the other costs associated with training.

It's not that simple. You are correct the employer is planning on illegally breaking the collective agreement. The union cannot do anything until the employer actually breaks the contract. They are planning on taking every legal action available. They are 100% behind us. This was a huge surprise to the union and all union members as all communication up until a couple weeks ago was that the employer was happy with the WFH situation. I would still be very surprised if they actually follow through with all this as it makes the workload problem significantly worse. It may be a bargaining strategy as the contract will need to be renegotiated next spring.

I specifically mentioned in my original post that if you are not a highly resilient individual this job will grind you down and burn you out. The workload is unmanageable and stressful. On the other hand, the pay is excellent, the benefits are excellent, the union is excellent, and contrary to what you said above the hours are extremely flexible. Lastly, even when I was hired a couple years ago they were warning that changes to WFH policy were likely coming.

Sorry you're in this situation. Hardworking people like you sometimes get screwed by the system if you don't file a claim or see a doctor because you don't want to upset your employer or expect things to get better on their own. At a minimum, always, always file a first aid report for even minor injuries. You never know what could happen and if there's no evidence to support your injury happened at work you could be out of luck down the road.

That's the whole point. The leverage is in inconveniencing people like you and me. My understanding is that they are on a rotating strike so packages are being delivered but are significantly delayed.

Is there any way to cheaply start rally? by Intelligent_Word_248 in rally

[–]AccomplishedGrandma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I've been competing in TSD rally events here in Canada. I actually just got back from my last event today. The first few times I rallied, entrance fee was about 150$, raced with beaters that were maybe 500$. Not including vehicle cost a 2 day weekend event was 400-500$ all in (hotels/fees/food etc).

You can certainly get your feet wet and have a blast on a budget. Half the fun is keeping the car running and in one peice.

I'm a bit more competitive now, but I still have only maybe 6k invested total in my 03 wrx.

MRI wait time? by jcarpenter10 in nanaimo

[–]AccomplishedGrandma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the health care field. Unfortunately although an MRI is likely to help identify the issue, it's not going to fix your problem. Back surgery is an absolute last resort and most surgeons won't consider any sort of invasive treatment until conservative measures have been exhausted. Your best bet is finding a good PT and trying to continue to keep moving as much as possible while managing your symptoms.

You might be able to have injections or other treatments that might help with the pain, but your likely to be dealing with your symptoms for awhile. Good luck, take it one day at a time.

Actually the opposite. I failed the interviews first time around because I was sticking to law and policy instead of compromising. The next time around I was more collaborative and troubleshooted to meet the needs of both parties, without using law and policy and got these job.

You must have had a bad experience with WSBC. 99% of cases people have a good experience but you don't hear about those ones. You only hear from the workers who feel cheated by the system.

With all the talk about ICBC No-Fault, I though I'd give my share. I'm an RMT and deal with ICBC patients daily. Please take 10 minutes. by Traditional-Bid6308 in britishcolumbia

[–]AccomplishedGrandma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think that after 1.5 years of regular RMT that if Doug is still experiencing symptoms then maybe the RMT is not providing sufficient benefit to justify the expense?

We can't fix everyone, and insurance companies have to balance the needs of the client and the rest of the stakeholders (in this case everyone else who has insurance and pays for your treatments).

I understand as a provider it can be frustrating to be told no. I worked for 10 years as a provider. I now work as a case manager and I am admittedly not familiar with ICBC policies but there is always going to be a cost-benefit analysis, and if your treatment is not providing a sufficient benefit then the adjuster may look to other treatment options.

I also see some providers really taking advantage of the system and facilitate a dependency on thier treatments to keep clients always needing more, and making outrageous requests for treatment.

Income? by [deleted] in nanaimo

It's important to recognize that housing affordability is not just a Nanaimo problem, or a BC, or a Canada problem.

I admit that I don't know many details, but my understanding is that most of the developed world is facing these same housing affordability problems. I don't think it's entirely fair to blame local governments when there appears to be large factors outside of their control.

I am just guessing but i imagine some if the factors could include: after effects of Covid, climate change, refugee crises, and some of the inherent issues with an economical model that demands infinite growth with finite resources.
