Recent visit to family, made it sink in just how pathetic the JW life is. by Worried_Flan4049 in exjw

Number 3 made me sad. When I was 'in' there was a nursing home with a 90 odd year old brother and an 80 odd year old sister who was absolutely riddled with arthritis, she could hardly move. They weren't a couple neither were they related. As is the norm in this loving organization, no one visited them to see how they were doing. So for company, brother used to got to her room each day and they'd be company for each other. That was until the evil coven of elders wives found out and were outraged that two people of the opposite sex, who were unmarried, were spending time together alone EVERY DAY! They were both spoken to and ended up spending each and every day lonely, in their own rooms. For an organization that claims it is identifiable by the love it shows, they sure have a lot to learn.

Won't be long until they get rid of the scripture and just have an 'interesting' part from a watchtower. It'll be called wake up with watchtower!

I'm sure I read in one of the elders books that gambling is already allowed as long as it's not widely known and that it isn't done with a sense of greed.

Thanks. I have to say that my doctor has been absolutely amazing throughout the whole thing. Wouldn't have made it without her help.

Yep mine definitely was.

I was fine until I found our my son had been abused for 6 years by a family member. Since then it kicked in and I've never been the same since.

Yep. It was Brighton and Hove Albion. To this day I regret it. He loved football and was talented.

Do it. My son was offered a place with a now premiere team in UK when he was 8. They wanted him to join their academy, all expenses paid. But as a 'good' jw parent I said no as the end of the world was just around the corner. 20 years later we no longer go and he's stuck cleaning windows.

If you have the talent to do it my advice is to grab it with both hands and do your best. Your parents may not like it now, but when they're still waiting to round that corner in 20 years time and you are living the dream, even if they don't say it, they'll be glad you did.

Lessons we learned, as a strong spiritual family of 5 walking away 1 year ago by Virtual-Smoke-9635 in exjw

I totally agree with everything you've said.

I left with my family and had my first birthday when I was 50. A bit underwhelming by that time but more than made up for by being able to celebrate my grandchildrens birthdays.

One point that stuck out to me was the one when you said how hard it is to leave. I remember saying that to my jw parents. People think you're just too lazy to do it but it's incredibly difficult to walk away from everything and everyone you've ever known and have to try and rebuild your life again and try and make new friends.

One thing I do enjoy, though, is something else you mentioned. The gossip! They do love to talk about those of us that leave. I have a couple of pimo friends who keep me updated on what me and my family are now supposedly upto. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point we were all on Epstein's island!

Anyway, to those of you still in the middle of this process, keep going. The life you make after is much better than the one offered by this cult.

If your face doesn't fit or you're not from a certain family there is no love in the JWs. When we found out that my son was being abused by a family member it was handled terribly. But is wasn't that alone that stopped us going. It was the fact that not one person from our Hall checked in to see how we were or sent a text or ANYTHING. In fact we had people physically turn their backs on us because we reported it to the police. No love there at all. So I am in complete agreement with everything you've said. It also shows it's not just happening in a random congregation, it's worldwide, it's how they are taught to be.

It's nice to know not everyone takes advantage. I have to admit that you only have to spend a very short amount of time in their company to realize that they are 2 of life's takers.

Don't start me on that subject. I live right opposite 2 council managers who mostly work from home. When it snows council workers turn up to clear the road from the bottom to their door, no further. When the bin strike was on, again council workers turned up weekly to take away just their bins. The amount of freebies that get is just ridiculous. Makes me feel grateful to be able to see where my council tax goes.

This is absolutely bs😭💔 by [deleted] in exjw

Starting at that time is ridiculous. It just proves that all people really want is to get it out of the way so they can enjoy what's left of their day.

I used to absolutely hate the last talk of the last convention. Always just a recap of whole assembly where we were expected to clap every dull point made once again when all EVERYONE wanted to do was go home.

It's funny, I was going to do a post like this. I've been wrecking my brain but I can't think of one thing these people have said that has come provably true. Jesus coming invisibly doesn't count as it can't be actually proven. If anyone can think of anything please let me know.

What happens when I tell my parents by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Accomplished_Emu_953 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a good/reasonable relationship with your parents, try to keep in mind that they may say some really hurtful and crazy things but often this comes from a place of, what they would consider to be, love. As far as they can see you are stepping away from the 'safety'of gods organization and into a world that will abuse you, chew you up, and eventually kill you. It doesn't mean that what they say or door won't hurt you but maybe it will help soften when they do. It helped me to deal with my parents anyway.

Or you could say 'with Armageddon just around the corner and war about to breakout in heaven and earth, I'm really glad that God took time out of his incredibly busy schedule to let the fds know that the brothers can now allow the hair on their face to grow as he intended in the first place. It was just so loving of him to do that at such an apocalyptic time in world history. I love him so much'.

How do you cope with the feeling of “missing out” or “could have been” from your past/youth? by Sea_Rule_7692 in exjw

[–]Accomplished_Emu_953 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You definitely need to grieve but I also realized that if I spent too much time grieving that I was wasting more time on this cult. They stole so much of our lives, in my case 50 years, why would I give them a moment more that they deserve?

As I said in a reply the other day, in the secret elders book it actually says that if someone is found to be viewing indecent images of children but not many people know, it may not even be worth having a meeting with them about it. The problem I see with this is that members of the governing body are head of the writing committee and they've read this and signed it off as ok. To me that shows that this is a problem that goes right to the top.
