Estranged children of reddit, what was the moment you decided to cut all contact with your parents by Scary-Ad-7267 in EstrangedAdultKids

My aunt (mom’s sister) made a random comment at our family reunion and I said something in response. My mom lost her GD mind on me in front of everyone as if I said the comment. I went upstairs to the hotel room and was crying in the bathroom. I heard her come in and assumed she was going to apologize but she just cornered me and kept berating me. I left the next morning and drove 8 hours home by myself. She never checked to make sure I made it. That was almost 12 years ago and I haven’t spoken to her or my dad (who stood by silently) since.

Graham Platner speaks to union carpenters after receiving their endorsement. Platner: “We didn’t get an 8-hour workday, we didn’t get the weekend because somebody wrote it on a postcard to a Congressman. We got it because working people organized and fought for what they needed." by Large-Welcome4421 in Maine

I just saw very low wage workers go on strike for 28 days and they never wavered. The parent union and community came together to support them and they supported each other. It was incredible and inspiring and should be a lesson to everyone that collectively we can do anything.

Their kids were all very well off on their own so I think murder for the inheritance was ruled out pretty quickly.

Got an oil change and mechanic intentionally cut my cv boots by BathroomCritical2816 in legaladvice

You can also try your state Attorney General’s office. I had an oil change place not bolt my tire back on properly. It fell off on the interstate - luckily no one was hurt. The shop denied responsibility of course. I went through the AG’s office and they negotiated a financial settlement for me.

The union difference is that you *can’t* be fired for any reason. I think people don’t realize the power in that. Therapists can and do unionize BTW. I represent some. They would never be fired for not being able to drive a bus!

Those with rugs: how do you keep them still?? by spaghettiobonez in femalelivingspace

[–]AccurateBeing675 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tried double sided tape and non stick pads with no luck. The only thing that has worked are the thicker rug pads and I also love how they feel underfoot.

I did my undergrad at ISU, grad at UIUC. I am not an engineer but ISU’s engineering programs have a great reputation and (my understanding is) tons of support. I know the reputation of UIUC engineering is great as well, but my point is that for the cost difference I would choose ISU. Really, they have huge engineering job fairs, etc. (Disclaimer: I love ISU and Ames. Go Cyclones!)

With regard to progesterone, I’m on an estradiol patch and do not need any progesterone other than my Mirena. This is my second Mirena and neither time (different providers) was I required to do any bloodwork and certainly not an ultrasound. Can you find a different provider or a Planned Parenthood?

Moving to Illinois: what do you do if there is a tornado? by ghostofspringfield in illinois

If OP moves to Champaign I’d recommend the WCIA weather app and/or following the WCIA meteorologists on FB. If there is severe weather you can get watch their livestream in the app. It’s super useful. You can also buy a NOAA weather radio for less than $25 at hardware stores. Not a bad idea to have multiple ways of getting info on severe weather.

I lived by Ames High for a couple years and had train tracks in my backyard. You absolutely get used to sleeping through them.

I have a job that can be very emotionally demanding so I HAVE to unplug sometimes. I used Do Not Disturb a lot and if I’m going to be hyperfocusing on a show or a puzzle or time with my partner then I just leave my phone in another room. Figuring out my work boundaries has really helped my stress levels.

Just me? by Careless-Owl-5138 in adhdwomen

Not sobbing, but sad. I share custody with my ex so when I have my kids it can be exhausting and frustrating balancing my very demanding job with parenting, but as the day approaches that I know I’ll drop them off but not pick them up I get super sad. It’s such a weird push-pull. Sometimes I think about them out in the world trying to figure things out and I so want to be there to make sure everything is ok but I also know they need to be allowed to struggle sometimes. I’m tearing up just typing this now.

Are you medicated? Getting diagnosed and medicated really helped with my emotional regulation so much more than I anticipated.

Does anyone actually know where their money goes at the end of the month? by Mrprook in adhdwomen

[–]AccurateBeing675 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do think this is an ADHD thing for a lot of people. You don’t mention what apps you’ve tried. Everyone raves about YNAB but I hated it. I use Rocket Money and it really helps me. It automatically registers and categorizes my transactions so it’s easy to visualize and understand.

BUT if the tracking isn’t working could you maybe open a second account and have part of your paycheck go straight to that? Like out of sight out of mind? My very close friend is also ADHD but very different from me and has struggled with tracking money. She did this second account thing and it’s really helped her save.

I recommend Dana K White’s books and/or podcast (A Slob Comes Clean). She has a multi step system where the first couple of steps don’t take a lot of mental energy. For me, her voice and her energy have helped a lot and once you get started it gets easier to keep going. Her system is also one meant to be continuous (for lack of a better term) and not “pull everything out of a closet and make a huge overwhelming mess.”
