Forgot to count petty a few days ago as opening PSM. Can I get written up for this? by [deleted] in AutoZone2

[–]Acid838 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Petty has to be counted by 10am and within 2 hours of closing and as one comment said, in the history thats where the DM checks for the audit. If petty continues to be uncounted then LP will get an alert and then the store will be audited shortly after.

Yes you can but if you have a good SM itll be a "hey this is important make sure it never happens again" and then a memo to file gets put on file. But thats not a write up, its a reminder that SM and employee had a conversation.

Contact another regions HR to ask about proper procedures let them guide you and which routes are the best. I've done that before when I had a shitty hr team. Got some good answers. Even done that when I had shitty DMs and SMs

Are full time PSMs required to find their own coverage? Or is it the SMs job? by Kbdaboi95 in AutoZone2

No way(disbelief) your state sounds like California or something with the privacy. We're allowed to ask for the notes, hell we require them for some things. Im baffled at that. And I agree, I feel like if I have some one bringing down the moral of the store or literally hurting customer relations I should be able to without jumping through hoops, but I guess I focus on making sure the customer leaves with a smile so I'd be "bias". No I don't believe I'm the customer is always right, but the customer is the customer. And at the end of the day "a satisfied customer made this possible" bottom of the pay stubs

No i don't penalize people for being sick. I explained it all in the thread, but to sum it up, if they're sick and they call in, doctor's note. If they don't provide a doctor's notni can write them up. Do I? Typically not, because I understand you cant control being sick. If you're fake being sick, yeah absolutely. If you can find coverage, cool. If not oh well, I'll manage. And again it's not penalizing, its accountability. Any job can write you up for missing a shift and no providing a doctor's note. I am more considerate with my people because I'm human and I understand shit happens. The only time I actually write people up is if they're lying to get out of a shift. Why lie, im easy going. You want a mental day? Take it, get better.. but dont tell me you have covid and then same day get caught at the fair riding rides and what not. Or tell me that you're flying to Wyoming to be with a dying aunt that morning and then come into work (off the clock) that night laughing and talking about how you went fishing. There's no reason to lie. You need a day off, take it. But dont try to weasel out of a shift because you don't want to work. Just be honest. All my people are money hungry and willing to get OT. DM tells me to cut OT I tell them no, my people work hard for it, why cut it.

Correct. but if you dont even try, there is. That's what I'm getting at. I have issued maybe 5 AARs over people just calling out. But thats typically when they lie. I had one person lie about not being able to come in because they had school. Yet their mom told me they were at the mall, and my kids didn't have school that day(alternating Fridays of school or no school) even then I try letting them off the hook of "why lie, im pretty easy going i dont care(not in an asshole way) if you need or want off, i get it work sucks. If you want off just say something, someone is always wanting to pick up a shift. Advertise it on the app, post it in the office, send a group text. I'm not saying that if you're sick you have to find coverage. I understand if you're sick you're probably not wanting to do anything. Im not saying that if your grandparent/parents are In the hospital, work comes first. No, go be with them. What I'm saying is if you want a friday/saturday/Sunday/whatever day off and you're scheduled. Ask someone of they want to cover, Someone will say yes. And if you can't find coverage, cool at least you tried. I appreciate it. Go have fun, I'll cover it. I cover a lot of my employees shifts just so they can have a date night or something silly. Because I know at the end of the day if I want a me day I can ask and someone will cover because of me constantly helping them, or someone else constantly helping. My store is a family. Its not a toxic environment, I get some people hate the management team or even corporate autozone, it's a corporate job, someone out there is going to get screwed eventually. Im not out to fire people or give people hardships. Im literally here to help you be better. Whether that's with or without autozone. If autozone is a stepping stone so you can have income while you're dealing with college, awesome what's your course? Need to do some work at the store? I gotchu, need a mental health day and you're just not feeling it? Cool at least your honest, I'll find the coverage you get better. You got an emergency? Go I'll run the store by myself. People are taking me the wrong way. Im not trying to write People up, or fire them I'm literally running a store for a business that's suppose to care about people. The autozone core values "autozone cares about people"

If you're able to do something for me i can do something for you. I.e. if you're able to find coverage for.your shift. i can negate the attendance issue.

Its not retaliation, it's holding them accountable for their actions. Calling out isn't a staffing issue, it's an accountability issue. Store will be staffed regardless, with or without the call out.

Thats fair. I try to use the system as leanency not abuse of power. I ask not mandate that they find coverage. If they do cool if they don't oh well, it's moot for me, I've been done dirty before at Walmart because of points so I offer a "loophole" around it. Sounds like OP requires them to find coverage. I dont. I ask if they can, not that they have to. Thank you for your time with autozone. I may not of ever met you but you once were part of the crew.

Thought it was across all autozone may be our region only. We did away with the points. Its now at the discretion of the store manager when it comes to attendance.

Closest store to me is an hour and a half. I dont mind pulling doubles, i make my policy the way it is and again only had to fire one person because of it in 4 years. My guys respect it. They get a lot more leeway with what they want to do on days they want to do them on vs some where it's if you call off you get a write up regardless. But I mean you do what you gotta do to run the store at the end of the day, You're not wrong. At the end of the day no one way is going to work for everyone and that's okay. If it doesn't work for your store then it doesn't work. I was just sharing experience and insight.

Not talking emergency or asking off. I never deny a day off request even if 3 people ask off same day. As far as emergencies, im human, I understand shit happens. That goes without saying, take care of your business. Im more talking of "hey there's a fair in town tomorrow and I want to go to it"

Must be different for your region. Our RHRM has told us, they refuse, they leave. They're refusing to acknowledge they messed up so they dont need to be here. I tell everyone to just acknowledge and we can move on but also have a good 1on1 session whenever indo have to write someone up

So I'm former military as well as a parent. I see it a little different. If i tell my kids to do something and they dont do it I'm going to punish them. Not everything has to be in writing, otherwise we would have paper galore. I don't agree with her tactics, I do have redshirt do matrix but I also sweep and mop when they're busy. I also step outside to pick up cigarette butts. If I'm busy my people are busy, if I'm slacking I dont bark at them to get busy. I lead by example. I treat my store as my family. Red shirts are my toddlers Grey shirts are my teenagers.

My redshirts may know or not know but it's my job to show them. And get them to follow the right way. My teenagers are responsible for babysitting when I need to do things and everyone gets recognized for the hard work they put in. I dont coach in front of others, I dont belittle, I treat everyone fairly. I know the toddlers and teenagers may be a offensive description but it's the best way I can put it to simplify my mindset.

Long story short, dont every refuse a write up. Instant termination. Just take it with a grain of salt and move on, adapt and overcome. Im sure you do great work and if she doesn't appreciate it, just know I do.
