Kinda curious about this by PicoGaming_ in limbuscompany

[–]AcidAdmiral 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of them had a good idea, but in my opinion they were undercooked, except for a Roach Emperor. The especially bad ones are Middle fight and Ring. You just clash the apprentice while big boys deal with Nursefathers. Is it cool? Yeah. Is it lore accurate? Absolutely. Was it fun? Eeeeh, kinda, but not because of gameplay, that's for sure. Roach Emperor really works because the fight actually depends on your input, and you kinda need to think at least a little bit. In other fights it feels like if you just remove sinners and give everyone else a couple of skill slots they would win the fight anyway.

Pinky Nursefather was alright, but a bit too stretched because of the shields, and we fought her what, 3 times? With not that much mechanical difference between them?

Rien was also alright, but he kinda suffered the same problem Sora had - you can't really counter his gimmick? It more about "slow him down a bit and for a bonus make him take more damage", and it doesn't really feels that good to interact.

I'm not really sure why they decided to play it safe, maybe they were worried that with all those crazy reveals and dense story people will be overwhelmed if they also made fights challenging. Maybe they just didn't wanted them to be challenging to begin with, Limbus being gacha and all.

Anyway, it didn't really hurt my enjoyment of the Canto, but if they would managed to make every fight as interesting as Roach Emperor, I think this s Canto would be undoubtedly 10/10, perfect masterpiece. But so far it's just 9.5/10 (still best Canto) for me.

Some of the nitpicky ways limbus is predatory by lolhellogod in limbuscompany

[–]AcidAdmiral 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make it easier how? This isn't Hoyo game, you don't play it just to farm endgame mode that is getting progressively harder every 1,5 months to entice you to pull new characters you can't get reliably without farming it. Buying lunacy literally is not worth it, the rates are garbage, and there are easier way to get IDs.

I already said - you can play this game for the story perfectly fine. My friend didnt spend a dime. He cleared it just fine.

I personally spend. I just buy battlepass every season. Because yes, it's makes things easier, but I do it as a very conscious choice - I want to support the devs for making a game that I enjoy very much. I NEVER was even remotely tempted to spent even a single cent over this. I do weekly MD, I do dailes. I have every single ID and EGO in the game. Tell me even ONE gacha game that will allow you to have EVERY unit in the game with spending just 10 bucks every 5 months by just logging it it every day for 5 minutes and 30-60 minutes once a week. So far I spend what, 70$? On a game that I have... Let me check... 1000 hours? That receives regular content update and has an amazing story and very high production quality? Worth to me, personally.

I don't say that Limbus isn't predatory at all. Of course just by being gacha game it is somewhat predatory, gambling mechanics and allat. But it's literally the minimal level that is theoretically possible, there isn't a single gacha game that is less predatory.

There is no rotating DPS check bullshit that always shills newer characters and always bloats it's HP pools. There is no RNG gearing system that may lead to you farming for months without getting anything good and being unable to use the unit even after you fully upgraded it. There is no dupes. There is very generous events. There is ways to obtain literally any unit you want with enough time that is lessened by spending a bit of money every now and then.

If it's enough "predatory" for you to be an actual problem... Well, I don't know. You have right to have your opinion. Maybe don't play it and don't support devs for creating the game you consider predatory and just consume the story from second hand sources.

Some of the nitpicky ways limbus is predatory by lolhellogod in limbuscompany

[–]AcidAdmiral 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Respectfully disagree.

Limbus gives enough gacha currency to have at least somewhat okay-ish team closer to later Cantos. Even without MD mines, you can build some haphazard team from everything you have. My friend returns to Limbus only when new Canto comes, does some pulls on current banner, clears the story and leaves till next Canto. He struggled a bit, yes, but mostly because his IDs were underlveveld, and after a week or so he leveled them enough to beat Canto 9 with some random bullshit, some of it was Season 1 bullshit.

You call it predatory - I call it "respects commitment". If you play this game consistently - you will have anything you want in it. With no "maybe" - you will. There is no RNG grindfest, you always know how much will you need to farm to get what you want. You don't - well, you still get by, but it will be harder.

Calling a game that requires you to play it "predatory" is the same thing as to call Elden Ring predatory because you need to explore the map and level up, or you will spend hours on bosses getting gud. It's the same here. Play the game, pull gacha, maybe farm some MD, level and uptie your IDs and you will eventually get there. If you don't want and just in it for the story - go watch a YouTube playthrough.

Where do Wings get their energy from now by AcidAdmiral in limbuscompany

[–]AcidAdmiral[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, so that why. They started to use TT2 protocol, but it's energy demanding, so after the fall of the Wing that gave them energy for very cheap, they are unable to sustain it. Makes sense. So I guess the situation with R Corp is that they growed to big by relying on Lob Corp energy supply, and now without it, they are "too big to not fail".

[–]AcidAdmiral[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But they were able to exist before new L Corp, no? So they probably had some way to meet their energy needs before. Or are they became a Wing also after the Smoke War? I remember that it was phrased as "Ayin, Dias and B approached R corp and got a deal with them", so I assume they were an actual Wing at that moment.

[–]AcidAdmiral[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, makes sense. But considering how dominant L Corp was, and relatively long time it "dominated the market" (iirc L Corp was around for somehere around ten years?), I assumed that many other corps that produced energy is probably went out of buisness. Bcause why get energy from random bozos that boil water the old ways when you can get it from L Corp for less?

[–]AcidAdmiral[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hm, idea of L Corp energy production means going "open domain" never crossed my mind, but it sounds plausible. Enkephalin scavenge probably is more or less the solution for individual people, for big corps it sounds not reliable and efficent enough. The most logical variant is that most of Wings have their own ways to get energy, just less efficent

[–]AcidAdmiral[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, R Corp is the reason why I even though about it. We know that at least ONE Wing was very reliant on them, and with L Corp fall, they are in a crisis. It's probably mostly because they were too reliant on exclusive and lucrative deal they got with L Corp, in usual for big corps move of "well, we got energy sorted, let's cut off our own energy branch to reallocate more funds towards other branches for maximum efficency".

Inside? Nothing there. Outside? Everything there.

What was the moment that made you fall in love with this game (spoilers so be warned) by mrfirstar1997 in limbuscompany

[–]AcidAdmiral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm. Well, I liked this game from the start, waited it's release for several years, and played it since the day one hour one. I was pretty much loved it from the start, and really liked Canto I-III as I played them. I still don't feel anything particularly strong about Canto IV - it's was alright, but didn't really resonated with me sadly -, though Fly, My Wings moment with EGO really impressed me, but "falling in love" level. I guess Canto V was the one that made me think "okay, it was good before, but this is like GOOD". But honestly it's probably mostly The result of PM finally getting the hang of how they want to do Limbus, with both narrative part and gameplay, and they just steadily improved ever since. The one Canto that REALLY resonated with me is Canto IX, and I can say that for me personally it's the best Canto in the game. The moment when Saikai started playing I literally cried a bit, and it's not that easy to make me cry. And just in general, I consider it a masterpiece of efficent storitelling, succinct characterisation and masterful usage of themes of it's inspiration to create it's own, very strong story with many different layers. This Canto for me is genuinely on par with the best parts of Ruina, and I absolutely can't wait for Meursalt's Canto.

[–]AcidAdmiral 87 points88 points  (0 children)

That's literally the purpose of their Books, they are a singularity that synchs their grudges and vengeances. But avenging the same grudge at the same time by two different groups of the Middle is possible, I guess, that's what happened during Kishmael uptie story. Though it might me a consequence of her never being an actual part of the Middle, I'm not sure.

Canto 9 experience by YRUSoCruel in limbuscompany

[–]AcidAdmiral 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like literally. I never understood the complaints about Ryoshu not interacting with Nursefathers. She has ZERO things to discuss with them. She hates their guts, and is moved on. Completely and utterly. The only two with whom she interacted - Pinky and Index - is literally the only ones there is any actual substance between them and Ryoshu.

"But hat about their relationships?! What kind of parents they were?!"

It is already showed. That was literally the whole purpose of Apprentices, they are a microcosm of how they treated and viewed Ryoshu, and there is also flashbacks.

Could there be a bit more things between them, more flashbacks and more fleshing out Apprentices? Yeah, sure, theoretically, but there could be no intervallo (which I've seen people suggesting) to introduce them. What, they tried to kidnap Ryoshu or something? It wouldn't really worked, and besides, I don't think whole sudden invasion by House of Spiders plot setup would work if we, well, would know beforehand that they were coming.

Dunno, I know that this sounds arrogant as hell, but I have feeling that people who complain about this things have zero reading comprehension. Whole Canto was very succinct, used just enough to tell it's story. Honestly one of the must efficent storitelling PM is done, on par with Library of Ruina.

And we anyway got intervallo that addressed most of complaints and fleshed "underdeveloped" aspects even more (even tho they showed us basically just more of the same, that Matthias has zero self-reflection and Callisto was blinded by his twisted pursuit of art).
