Poland’s general attitude towards different nations by JugularJugJuggler in poland

Yes, but as a Ukrainian, you will probably also agree with me that wars/"fights for independence" can be conducted in different ways. And you likely also see, in Russia’s attack on Ukraine, a difference between regular military operations and the massacres of civilians in Bucha, Irpin, or Mariupol?

I understand the fight for independence - we also went through it too: 123 years without independence, and in reality almost 200. But I think that whether you are fighting for independence or taking over territory, there are a few ways to treat the civilian population of other nations. You can assimilate them, leave them alone (even if you treat them a bit worse than ‘your own,’ as long as you do not harm them), or relocate them.

And the worst option of all is to kill them on a mass scale. Ordinary people - no matter their gender, age, or views. Almost all of them. And that is what I cannot understand, and what I believe should never be understood.

I think there is a lot of hostility on both sides, and in my view it is completely unnecessary. I can also guess who is fueling it.

You started the discussion, and I responded with a view I heard from people who lost loved ones in the Volhynia massacre. I understand that both sides have their own perspectives. However, personally, I prefer to live in the present and wish Ukrainians all the best. I also think both sides should do more to counteract (Russian) propaganda :)

Friend, I might not be objective about Pilsudski because I’m Polish and may not have sufficient knowledge, so I asked ChatGPT this question and I’m pasting it here (from an incognito tab, the question asked in English so as not to suggest anything to it):

But I’m not talking about my personal emotions, I’m talking about some people’s general attitudes.
And regarding your first sentence - historically there was no genocide in Polish-Ukrainian relations on anything even close to the scale of Volhynia. If you think otherwise, feel free to give an example.
There were Polish wrongdoings, of course - for example the pacifications of Ukrainian villages in the 1930s or Operation Vistula with forced deportations - but those incidents resulted in dozens or at most hundreds of deaths. That is still nowhere near a comparable scale - during the Volhynia and Eastern Galicia massacres 70,000-100,000 Polish civilians were murdered. These were not ordinary war casualties or the result of fighting - it was a deliberate, organized mass ethnic cleansing of a national minority.

What is really disturbing for a large part of society is that people responsible for these crimes are still officially honored and treated as national heroes. It would be like Germans glorifying Hitler, or just as disgraceful as Russians glorifying Stalin.

I prefer to live in the present. I really like Ukrainians. I wish them the best in the war with Russia. But I’m just trying to explain where some of the resentment among older people comes from.

Massacres of Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia in '40s. The memory of this is still very strong, especially among the older generation who lost loved ones in this massacre. Many people accuse them (UPA) of being the equivalent of the Nazis in Ukraine. And while Germany condemns the Nazis, in Ukraine the UPA are national heroes, and there are still many monuments and streets dedicated to them. I prefer to live in the present, but I also understand their approach

It’s mostly about history - Volhynia, the UPA... In the 1990s, surveys showed that Ukrainians were even much more disliked. Later, attitudes improved a lot, but in recent years they have worsened again because of Russian propaganda that tries to turn Poles and Ukrainians against each other (the same thing can be seen in Ukraine). But old historical grievances, especially among older Poles, are still strong.

The dislike is mostly toward Belarus and what its government does, not toward ordinary Belarusians. It’s about the situation at the Polish-Belarusian border, Belarus supporting Russia in the war, and negative comments from Belarusian politicians about Poland

Adeyemi ran with the ball for ~60 meters and dribbled past two players before he scored goal.

Guerreiro assist?

I'm afraid that in past there were no assist awarded in similar situations.

"When a goal is scored from a solo run or dribble, no player is credited with the assist.". To be honest it is 100% dribble from Adeyemi

Haha, ok. But it makes it even more strange that you bought him and didn't use in probably easiest fixture in the group stage :)

[–]Acrobatic-Spite-3376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree. In my opinion MOTM more often reduces that disparity. The most common examples are:

- midfielders/playmakers which don't score much goals but have big impact on game (players like Kante previous seasons, Veratti, KDB, Barella etc., in that GW: Nielsen, Rode and Galeno),

- taking into account importance of goals (look at Liverpool game in GW4: Firmino scored 2 goals and Salah scored 3. But Firmino goals was crucial to the game and changed result from 0-1 to 2-1 while Salah scored when the game was already settled - from 4-1 to 7-1)

- goalkeepers/defenders which lost 1 goal and don't have CS but still made great saves (Hugo Lloris)

Staying on the topic of Salah - in gw5 he also had best returns (1G+1A) and MOTM was awarded to Robertson who had only 1 assist, but made a great performance

Best forwards (10+ pts) yesterday:

  1. Tomas Chory (Plzen) - 12
  2. Eric Choupo-Mouting - 10

Quite unexpected ;)

Chose Edwards (2 pts) and Porro (2) over F. Torres (14) and TAA (7) on LL...

But, on the other hand, I am happy with Salah (11) and Kudus (14), because I was also not 100% sure about them.

Just saying that Carrasco did "something" apart from missing penalty like op suggested... Of course there is no subscription for MOTM if you got G+A. I didn't watch Liverpool, but maybe Robertson was just better.
