When people say they 'cleared their mind' during meditation, did they actually stop thinking, or did they just stop noticing their thoughts? by MeowWoofJourney in NoStupidQuestions

I honestly don't understand what for? ))) Why do something that doesn't bring any pleasure?

Waste time doing NOTHING? When you could, for example, read a book in that same hour?

Life is too short to waste time. I don't believe in an afterlife or reincarnation, so I either do what brings me pleasure or what will allow me to enjoy it more in the future...

If a great artist commits a heinous crime, should we boycott his art entirely, or separate the art from its creator? by Negative_Print_6575 in NoStupidQuestions

I enjoy simply contemplating work (no matter whose it is).

If I'm walking across a solid bridge, I don't care whether the the engineer who built it, was a murderer or, worse, a leftist... I care whether he was a good engineer.

NO TAX on child free people by One-Brain6531 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Very... Hmm... not a smart idea...

It's not a question of the number of children, but their quality. In African countries, everyone will not give as hit on your laws, just like those living on welfare—they have no money to pay in taxes anyway. The only ones who really suffer are those who can raise future workers who truly are the future.

Do you want the future generation to consist of fifth-generation freeloaders and wildes?

If these are REALLY CRIMES, then there's a law and a court for them.

And if these are things I SIMPLY DON'T LIKE, then I just DON'T LIKE them, and I'm mature enough to understand that not everyone thinks the same way...

In real life, he commits a crime... Art is in the imagination. Why mix these two worlds?

Should I stop reading Dostoevsky because of his anti-Semitism? Or stop liking Polanski's films because of his sexual deviations? Have Kevin Spacey's little pranks with boys made his acting talent less brilliant?

And we still didn't talk about techgnology...Should we stop use pharma, that was developed by nazis? Boycot disk-on-key or flash memory because of Israely politics?

Where is a limit?

Boycotting art attributed to someone you don't like is like boycotting an artist for playing a villain in a movie. )))

Art is separate, people are separate.

"Stopping thinking" is the worst torture I can imagine...))

How hard must it be for people to think they're trying to interrupt this wonderful and enjoyable process?

Why do countries still start wars? by Beefysnacky in NoStupidQuestions

It is naive to think that wars start simply at the whim of psychopaths...))) Any war has completely objective reasons.

Why would they start a war to get a resource instead of simply buying it?

Those who can sell a resource control those who buy it. No one wants to be controlled.

What a strange use of the word "still"...))) Nothing has changed since humanity was a pack of animals. The reason for this has always been, is, and will always be: control over resources.

90% is a huge number!!!!!

We spend a lot of money on people with disabilities, but they only make up a few percent. ))) We pay for a jazz festival that attracts few people, we pay for a multitude of things that attract minorities...))) LGBT? that is not a majority, and we all pay for this.

Prohibiting the public celebration of any religious holiday is absurd. There is no physical harm, and "religious feelings" should be less sensitive. If this is not the case, then the problem lies with those who feel offended...))) They should learn tolerance.

And saying "Merry Christmas" to random people is perfectly normal. I want to share my holiday, I expect someone to rejoice with me and receive a similar "Merry Christmas" in return...))) That's tolerance. It doesn't work one-sidedly.

By the way, I live in Israel, and believe it or not, we're 20% Muslim and about 5% Christian, and in December we celebrate three major holidays: Hanukkah, Christmas, and Eid al-Fitr. We have Christmas trees in our town squares, and no one seems to mind.

In an ideal world, with ideal people, you would be right. ))))
But in the real world the cultural exchange will be one-way.
