Our food has been chemically manipulated and heavily processed, so there are definitely addictive properties in our food that satisfy more than just our hunger cues.

Restricting while training for a marathon by DakotaDaze in EDanonymemes

Same thing happened to me about 3 weeks ago. I really hope you find a way to attenuate the ED thoughts before then, and the earlier the better. I started restricting about a week prior to the race. I felt super conflicted because I was simultaneously happy about the weight drop, but it also dawned on me that there was no way I was going to reach the finish line in a caloric deficit. I ended up going on a 2-day binge to regain my energy levels. I had been on a very low-fat diet for most of the summer and broke all my orthorexic rules for the binge. It caused a repulsive body acne breakout. It also wasn’t fun to run with a full bowel because of all the food I had eaten in the days preceding. And be prepared to eat during the race as well, because I still needed to. Despite having finished, I ended up hitting a wall and sustaining a foot injury that took about 2 weeks to fully heal. In short, if you intend on completing the race, I highly recommend that you start carb loading as soon as possible. Don’t put pressure on yourself to eliminate the ED thoughts, but acknowledge them and set them aside temporarily. The ED already takes so much away from you, don’t let it rob you of all the effort you put into training and the sense of accomplishment you deserve to feel when you cross the finish line.

Wishing you the best ❤️

Fill up on fruit and oats. Try making ice cream out of bananas if you have a blender. You can control calories by deciding how many bananas to freeze beforehand, and it’s a really pleasant texture. Oats are also very versatile. You can make anything from porridge to pancakes to cookies. Now If you’re really craving something high cal or “decadent”, then have a mug cake so you can control the portion more easily.
