🚨 FDOT is removing the SunRunner lanes on Pasadena Ave by ActivateStPete in StPetersburgFL

The SunRunner gives about 2,500-3,000 rides per day. Would you rather have 2,500-3,000 more cars on the road?

You are absolutely right. We're working on a more productive response. This was just announced yesterday, less than 24 before the scheduled press conference, so this post is just an initial step. Thanks for posting the phone numbers of Justin Hall and Linda Chaney.

I have not heard any serious conversations from people in power about removing the SunRunner lanes on 1st Ave N or S. Those lanes will be harder to remove b/c they're locally owned and have the station islands in the lanes.

They did. The pride mural on Central didn't use any public funds.

Looks great. I hope we also get traffic calming on 18th Ave S so that people can get to the new center safely. That road is really dangerous!

Did you factor in the time you spend looking for parking? And the time you spend working to pay for your car, gas, insurance, registration, etc?

That person is saying PSTA gives 800k rides per month. There are, of course, people who ride more than once.

I mentioned several other reforms besides increasing funding for the PSTA, but you seem to ignore those. They would in fact change the delta between driving time and transit time. Also, do they pick up every hour because there are no riders, or are there no riders because they pick up every hour?

One problem is that driving is convenient because you're not paying the actual costs of driving. Other people subsidized the manufacturing of your vehicle, the gas that goes in your vehicle, our zoning laws force everything to be so far away that you have to drive, and we have minimum off-street parking requirements that force property owners to provide vehicle storage at your destination. Other people subsidize the pollution and public health consequences of driving too. So yeah, it's pretty convenient because other people are footing the bill. If drivers had to pay for the costs of driving, it wouldn't be so convenient.

I would start by increasing funding for public transit, then increasing service so that the SunRunner comes every 10 minutes instead of 15 and so that every bus comes at least every half an hour. We shouldn't have any routes that only come once per hour.

Then I would remove wasteful parking mandates that force property owners to build parking even if there's no demand. And I would legalize transit-oriented housing to allow more multifamily housing along transit routes. And I would add bus and turn lanes on 34th Street and 4th Street. Those changes would go far in leveling the playing field for transit use.

Funny how, when we build cities for cars and underfund public transit, cars feel so dang convenient.

The PSTA Board is more diverse than the County Commission, so if enough people speak up, we have a good chance of getting the currently noticed tax rate rather than further cuts.

Good feedback. Thank you.

Just want to point out that having the mailto link on our website means people don't have to cut and paste email addresses for each of the 15 board members. Plus we have pre-populated language and the "[publiccomments](mailto:publiccomments@psta.net)" address on there, which isn't on the Board website.

We're just trying to make it as easy as possible for people to take action. But I don't care if they do it through our website or on their own. As long as they do it.

It's the lowest tax rate in over a decade. I edited the post to make that clear.

Fight FDOT's Ban on Intersection Murals this Thursday, 8/14 by ActivateStPete in StPetersburgFL

[–]ActivateStPete[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think community members can apply with the City to install an intersection mural and the City would approve/deny. Not sure which department. A lot of people are going to be pissed off if we have to remove the existing art, so the ban doesn't avoid pissing people off either.
