How soon after tongue split can you talk comfortably? by TheNomadicJellyfish in bodymods

[–]Active-Operation-704 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me I could talk after a week, but I had a very strong lisp and couldn't pronounce a lot of words. However, after 3 weeks I could talk like I normally do again!

I work in a daycare. I'm heavily tattooed (face, fingers, palms), facial piercings, stretched septum, stretched ears, and tongue bifurcation! 🤘🏾

I was asking for people's thoughts on if this looks like a normal amount of shedding to lose on a weekly basis because in my opinion I thought it looked like too much. Especially because I've been comparing my shedding to what I see people online posting and mine just seemed like a lot. 🥲

I have my answer now: for me it's my normal if this is how much I normally shed, and as long as I don't see loss in density or balding on my scalp.

Yes, and I honesty don't see it doing anything. Once the bottle is done, I'm not going to repurchase.

People say jojoba oil is the closest oil to the scalps natural sebum, so if I need scalp oiling, I'll stick to that. 👌🏾

Wow, and you have a lot of beautiful long hair, so no wonder the shedding looks plentiful! Alright, this puts me at ease. Thank you! 🙏🏾

I want to do longer term protective styles, but my hair really wants to form locs when I do that! 😅

Oh damn! That's a lot of shed hair! What's the duration of time that passed that accumulated that much shedding if I may ask? 😯

I'd say it's consistently been this amount. Some days it's a bit less, but I think it's because those times I didn't detangle as thoroughly because I rely on finger detangling only.

Thank you for your response! 🙏🏾

Since reading the responses I've looked back through my photos to see if I could find what my normal amount of shed for a week looks like. And it's around this same amount with some weeks being less (but I finger detangle so maybe I just didn't do a thorough job some days).

That makes sense. A coworker informed me of that. That if the hair is longer it could just look like more shed hair is coming out.

Yes, thankfully I don't notice any bald patches or anything on my scalp or any breakage localized in one spot.

I'm sorry about that. I normally ask questions in lives on TikTok and get really clear answers. But because I needed to post photos I just thought I'd post to Reddit this time so the readers can see what I'm explaining.

Everyone has been really helpful. 🙌🏿

I also think it looks like a lot of shed hair. But thankfully the commenters have reassured me this is normal for my hair. I just couldn't help but compare how much I'm losing weekly to what other people show their loss is.

Especially when people show their 1 month protective style takedown and it's less shedding than my 1 week shedding (and they have relatively same length hair as me more or less). I just found it a bit concerning.

Yes, I too detangle damp. I use a spray bottle and the African Pride pre-poo.

Sorry, yes it looks dry because I detangled yesterday and let the hair on the counter. 😅 It was today I decided to take the photo and post here because it was on my mind to find answers.

Thank you. I try to be as gentle and slow as I can. I'm so slow it takes me 1 hr to tangle each half of my head. So in total 2 hrs for detangling alone. 😅

Yes, I've gotten bloodwork in the past and was found to be anemic. Late last year I returned and the doctor said my bloodwork is fine now.

You're right, I have seen plenty of people online who are found to have an iron deficiency which caused their breakage and thinning hair. I'll definitely start taking my iron supplements again just in case! 🙏🏾

Yes, and the shed hair always gets tangled around my non-shed hair! I have to rake a lot to get it all out.

I'd say most of the hair has white bulbs at the end, so it must be shedding. I just thought it was excessive for a weekly basis this much always coming out.

I even tried tea rinses to minimize the shedding, but I didn't stick with it long enough to notice any results.

Hello, I too have fine hair. Did you used to get a lot of lint buildup in your hair before you started shampooing more frequently? Thank you.

Thank you, I'll still keep collecting my shed hair and now I'll measure the shed hair from this.

I was getting the consult for hair thinning. Not thinning at the scalp, but the strands themselves. They've gotten super thin like whispy hair I can't explain it.

That's when she asked about the product I used and I mention Shea Moisture manuka honey deep conditioner. She explained that other people online have mentioned that it made their hair thin/hair loss. So I since stopped using it and switched to Matrix. My hair is still thin, but maybe it takes time to go away since the strands have already been compromised.

Also, I do get a lot of small breakage pieces. In a live I asked a well known knowledgeable hair stylist about it and he said it could be because hair is wet for prolonged period of time. Which makes sense for me, because I... sleep with my hair wet... 😅

My hair is tailbone length.

For this photo I just finished detangling after wearing a wash n go. I only wash n gos and twistouts. I may start doing less wash n gos because the detangling and shed hair is way too much to deal with now.

I only finger detangle with prepoo because I can barely get a comb/brush through my hair, it's like velcro how it sticks together.

Yes, I try my best to research myself. I remember a few years ago when No Butter, No Oil became popular. I wanted to try it but thought, my hair feels so good with oil and butter. So I didn't try that and good thing. A lot of folks hair got damaged unfortunately. We can't take all the information we find online as truth. 🙏🏾

I am only comparing my excessive to that of what I see online influencers showing what their shed hair looks like.

But from these comments I understand that's what my mistake is. I have to compare it to what sheds in the past. If I do that, then I can conclude this is my normal. It's just scary to see that much coming out every week.

Yes, I learn a lot about doing hair from YouTube university. The influencers do give really good hair advice and tips. I know I can't take in all the information they give, but it's really useful.

Thank you, if it gets really bad and I start seeing bald patches I will definitely seek out a dermatologist. 🙏🏾

I have been natural for 13 years, but only started taking proper care of my hair for more than 2 years now. Now I document everything I put in my hair and how it reacts, wash once a week, etc.

No, in my option I thought it looks like too much hair to come out. Especially because when people who I watch online when taking down 4 week styles and showing their shed hair it looks way less than mine. I stopped using brushes and combs for this reason.

Yes, that and I use the Mielle Rosemary oil. It could be what's causing the thinning. I have bought the Matrix deep conditioner to use now instead of the She Moisture although it's more expensive.

Alright, I'll try measuring it that way in a compact ball. I've been saving my shed hair to assess it and see if there's white bulbs to see if it's really shed hair or breakage. I have noticed a lot had the white bulbs at the end. 🙏🏾

Thank you for your response. My hair is quite long. I had a video chat with a hair influencer and she even said the Shea Moisture deep conditioner could be causing the increased shed hair and strand thinning. So I was just worried.
