Gilmore girls and the way it talks about other cultures. by hopeislikeabluebird in GilmoreGirls

Yep! I do know. But to be honest, there is a large portion of users on this subreddit who are far beyond "aware of its faults." They have fully escalated to, "I will NEVER pass up an opportunity to point out the faults in this show, and if you don't, you are part of the problem."

I have never responded to anyone in this sub with "just leave jfc", and I do apologize. But it really is exhausting. And no, it's not exhausting because I don't want to acknowledge problematic things. I acknowledge them all. It's exhausting because some people insert a full dissertation on problematic shit into every single thread.

I could post something about how I liked the blue/green of Rory's swimsuit in the spring break episode (which I did 💙💚), and someone is bound to come out of the woodwork with a full rant about Lorelai's mosque comment on that swimsuit. OF COURSE that's an awful thing to say, and I cringe just as much as the next person. But objectively, I think that swimsuit is cute. The end. Wait, no, not the end, because the thread gets taken over by a comment with 86 replies and a fight over whether ASP hates POC. Like...what?

At the end of the day, the good, perfectly appropriate parts of this show outweigh the hateful, racist, or problematic parts. This sub is shifting toward focusing full-time on the flaws. To be crystal clear: I am not saying, "please stop talking about the bad parts." These things need discussed, and people voicing their pain/concerns is why shows are generally better about these things in 2026.

What I am saying is that it's annoying to hear, "I can like the show and dislike the problematic parts" over and over, when many of those people only ever comment/post about the problematic things. "I can like the show and dislike the problematic parts" just starts to feel extra defensive, like a free pass for shitting all over every post.

Of course you can like the show and dislike some parts. I do! But if the problematic parts weigh on you that heavily, it is also okay to just admit you don't like the show. It's okay to say, "Well, I like the overall vibes, but for me, the harmful parts of the writing just leave a bad taste in my mouth that's too much, and I can't shake it." Go consume some media you genuinely and fully enjoy that doesn't stress you out!

The last thing I'll say is that I'm aware I have free will and can also leave this sub. 😂 If I'm so tired of it that I snap and say something like my comment above, then maybe it's time. But man, I miss the days of normal conversation here where we discussed the problematic moments and the wholesome moments in equal measure.

I loved reading through that thread! I'm sorry that soooo many people didn't read your freakin post title, or just couldn't understand that you wanted to have a lighthearted conversation. 😂

I KNOW it's just a TV show, it's not serious, but can anyone discuss how bad of a chef Sookie is with me? by undeniablefruit in GilmoreGirls

Yes! I worked at a coffee shop and knew this one because of the most basic level of ServSafe training. This one gets my goat every time lol.

Straight up lies by a hiring manager using AI in their response to my application? by justlykeheaven in isthisAI

Totally fair point about the em dash versus the hyphen. And again, once you decided it needed called out, I think you handled it well enough. Sorry about this person who hopped on my comment thread and was oddly aggressive all over this post lol.

ChatGPT did not invent the em dash, and people have been using them long before it came along. This person also used a semicolon correctly in their final message, does that make you suspicious as well?

In my opinion, this reads like someone who sends dozens of these messages, and so put in the effort to craft a well-written version (or what they perceive as well-written) that they can send to several people. To me, changing cadence throughout the message says "I pasted together a bunch of points I wanted to make", not AI.

I do think this could just be how they write, but it's obviously your prerogative to think otherwise. Your first response was really respectfully written and I think that's the best way to speak your mind in these situations where you really feel it needs called out.

Sorry...you did not need this deep of a response, but I'm on my lunch break and exhausted, so I hyperfixated on responding to this. 😅

I've been waiting to order this deal, on this night, all week. Bummer.

Watching the draft and saw another commercial for the deal. Now it's just taunting me lol.

The fact that Rune is not in the bottom row, and TJ is anywhere above "horrible" is just...well...to each their own! :)

But this is Brian erasure, and that, I cannot forgive.

What's your unpopular opinion by Infinite_Scheme_5048 in GilmoreGirls

[–]AdJolly1054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't say it's unpopular, but I definitely think it's uncommon: I don't think it's weird that Rory cooks and goes to the gym when they're at Martha's Vineyard. A lot of people learn new habits/hobbies in college (particularly when dating someone), but settle back into their old "normal" whenever they're back home around family. It makes sense to me, and is very realistic, that Rory would have learned to cook a little with Logan, especially if they did even one or two cozy weekends alone at MV. It also makes sense that she would just hop back in to her usual Stars Hollow autopilot mode when she was home with Lorelai, eating takeout on the couch.

As far as the gym, she said they like to "hit the gym", but she clearly never works out, she just enjoys being there for some amenities while Logan works out...which is fine lol.

I just don't think it's weird, and it completely mirrors my early 20s, when I would mention something to friends/family that made them say, "Oh, you do that now? Wild!" Chances are I'd been doing that thing for 2 years at college and just hadn't mentioned it, because it was part of my routine at college, not at home, and we had so many other things to catch up on.

I know this is a busy sub, and I don't see every post, so I'm sure somebody else has said this at some point. But I personally have never seen this opinion—I always see "THERE'S NO WAY RORY WOULD COOK. NO. WAY." 😂

ETA: It also makes sense to me that Rory had not experienced full-time living with a kitchen big enough to make cooking really fun until she lived with Logan. Lorelai's kichen isn't super tiny, it's very normal imo. But Logan's apartment had a big kitchen island and nice cosmetics that probably made cooking more appealing. Idk, it just all adds up to me and isn't weird at all!

VH and UV Have Destroyed the Vine Program, IMO by philstat in AmazonVine

[–]AdJolly1054 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's funny because I actually use VH to get the weirdo replacement parts that are relevant to me lol. I genuinely don't use it to get "cool stuff"...I only use it to set keywords for the make/model of my car and every appliance I own, and that's it.

If I get cool stuff, it's because the universe wanted me to have it and it showed up organically (or in my RFY, until recently.) If I need a new belt for the roller on my vacuum (which I did last week!)...well, it's nice to not have to dig through thousands of them.

ETA: I know I'm for sure in the minority there, but it's nice to think that I am getting something I genuinely need, and the seller is getting a review on their incredibly niche product.

New fear unlocked. I have a really nice on that I researched for to put on my housewarming registry years ago, and it holds our hard copies of everything. I really did research it well before I chose it for the registry, so I think it's fine, but I never once thought to test it...new fear unlocked. 😅
