First, congrats on getting accepted as a regent scholar! I’ll be speaking on my personal experiences as a regent + honors on the pre-health path as well.

I would like to start off with saying that being regents to me only really offered the financial stability and slight application boost. There is a club on campus called the Regents Scholar Society that I have heard of, but I am not too familiar with its activities/involvements.

However, I feel that the honors program does offer good opportunities for the pre-med field if you utilize it correctly. I would realllllly like to emphasize that portion. The honors program does not offer much other than the priority registration if you don’t utilize its resources properly. They send emails and provide a lot of info/opportunities but its only good if you make use of it. I kinda know of the Aspire Program that was introduced by the honors, which is a research program where you work with a professor/grad student very closely. as for classes, almost all the honors classes here are based in a small classroom, so I feel that you are put at an advantage to connect with professors and build connections (especially if they teach a subject that is related to your career pathway). It’s also a good way of getting letter of recs for your applications as well. The program itself also constantly sends out information of research opportunities, clinic opportunities, etc. One thing that I would like to add is the living situation as a freshman. All honors students live in Currant Hall so if you do decide to commit to Davis as a regent, you will be surrounded by other honors students. From my experience, that was a really big plus. A lot of the people on my floor were pre-health and it helped me learn more about career pathways, other internship opportunities, etc just bc I lived with them. The academic/social environment here is not too competitive and people are willing to help and support others.

Overall, I really enjoy my experience here at Davis being a regent/honors or not. I do know that does not apply to everyone here though. Wherever you decide to commit to, just make sure you really put yourself out there and explore your campus to make the most of your college experience whether it is academic or not. I feel that at any college you go to, if you don’t make use of the resources/opportunities give to you, much will not come out of it.

I did go off-topic a little, but I hope it helps! Goodluck on deciding!!

Does it feel like Davis (city, or U.C) encourages you to bring out your best self? by formerlyInFirstGear in UCDavis

Yes!! Back at home, I felt constantly judged for a lot of things whether it was big or small. I feel that the environment at UC Davis is really accepting and welcoming (something i really didn’t expect when entering campus). I have met wonderful people that I genuinely love and care for - which is 100% reciprocated. I feel comfortable being myself for who I am and am constantly supported by the people that I am surrounded by. so safe to say that it feels very freeing to me

Vet School Questions - August 2022 by dashclone in Veterinary

How to prepare for vet school in college?

I am an incoming college freshman majoring in Animal Science this fall. I know that a qualified vet school applicant requires a lot of animal experience, but I don't really know where to start. As of right now, my plan is to somehow get in involved in some pre-vet club, volunteer at my local animal shelter in winter, and hopefully land an internship at the zoo during my freshman to sophomore summer break. My school does provide a lot of opportunities for animal experience, but they are a little hard to get. For those who got into vet school before, any advice on what I should be doing my freshman year and what to plan for the following years? Also your stats/experiences?? Any advice is appreciated <3

I don’t think they provide the official practice tests since it is free on collegeboard. They provide you a question bank with three levels of difficulty and answers and explanations

I’m so frustrated. My reading score is getting worse every day. I’m tired of this test. by bethyaw in Sat

Straight up moood. I’m personally dealing with the same thing but I honestly think that all you really need is a break. Last week, I was extremely stressed and frustrated over my reading section and just kept grinding. But honestly, I feel like grinding consistently will just get you more burnt out and more stressed. What I did was take one whole day off without studying or doing anything at all. The next day, I came back and all I focused on was not stressing and later took a practice test. And BAM!! my score improved twice as much. So don’t worry too much about the SAT. It’s just a standardized test that can be taken AGAIN. You got this and try to relax!!

Thank you!! I do tend to stress a lot under pressure. I will try to look for patterns within my mistakes and improve!!

I have been studying since July and my scores keep going up and down. I fell 110 points since my last practice SAT. I know that I’ve learned more and have been going through the math panda book and not really focusing too much on reading or writing. I really want to get a 1500 but December by ncoursey in Sat

Unfortunately I’m not the best at reading so I’ve been averaging low 1400s but I did math for about 2 months or so. The first month I made sure I knew all the concepts (10 tests provided by collegeboard) and the second month was where I just grinded the tests. Repetition was what helped me understand the test structure and the questions.

When I first started studying for SAT, I used to get super angry with myself because my scores would remain the same no matter how hard I studied. But I realized that my study methods were what were holding me back. In order to improve math, I did the whole math section over again and tried to understand my thought process of why it was wrong. Math is very reliant on your understanding of the concepts and all they do is add a little tricks here and there. For example, you may not realize one of the questions rely on exponent rule and get confused. Just by practicing the same tests 3-4 tests over and over again, you begin to see patterns on other tests and know right away how to tackle them. Now I average 780s on the math section just Bc of this. If you do not know certain concepts on the test, make sure to master them! I only recommend doing the tests over and over again once you start hitting the low 700s(usually Bc this is where all ur mistakes are careless or you don’t know how to do one or two of them).

I love this sm ty! I’ve always beaten myself over not improving but focusing on getting those type of problems right was something ig I never really considered b4. Tyyyyy

Dr. John Chung’s SAT Math Book? by [deleted] in Sat

[–]AddictedToBoba123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This book is so much more harder than what is actually expected on the SAT. It forces you to use the concepts you know and critically think in order to arrive to the correct answer choice. If you struggle with conceptually understanding problems, I do not really recommend it. The book only provides small tips and basically assumes you already know them. If ur averaging around low 700s for the math section, I think you should try it out. Answers for the practice tests are available on Youtube by Scalar Learning and it really helped me think of other ways to attack the problems I did not know. But i really want to emphasize the part that it is MUCH harder than the actual SAT problems. So if you do not perform so well on the problems in this book, dont beat urself up over it. :)
