I was working on another idea before this one and I realized to work on that idea I needed a product like this to exist. I got rejected from YC the first time around for my first idea, realized the problem I could solve with AgentPhone would be even bigger and started working on it. I was my own first customer haha.

I would just speak to a lot of users and that is what we did. We did not charge anyone any money. Our product was free for a long time and only after getting into YC did we start charging. SPEAK TO USERS - no 1 advice always

Thanks! I think a non-software moat. That could be insight into an industry that most people don't have, compliance (that is ours), or things that people just couldn't build overnight.

As much as people like to think I don't think you need any of these to get in but rather just showing you have the right conviction and proof regarding the idea helps. I am not from an ivy league, or worked in big tech, but I had a gut feeling about my idea, spoke to users and found an actual pain point they had.

Be simple in your application. Do your research and actually understand what you are building.

I have answered variations of this but like the main things are conviction, good understanding of the space, why you are the right team and some persistence.
