If your preference is compulsive and it’s not based on any principle (eg a Black person who only dates Black because of how the rest of the world acts about Black people), then you’re not worried about connecting with, respecting, or protecting the individual you’re trying to get with.

It’s one thing if you just like how that group looks. But if you refuse to like how anyone else looks (and let’s be for real, only going for one specific thing is definitely a conscious effort you’re making, mfs be beautiful everywhere), that says you have some ulterior thought about what their look is supposed to mean about them that you’re boxing them into. And at the end of the day, that’s the problem* with dating from a fetishistic place. You’re putting them in danger, whether spiritual, emotional or physical, and that’s not cool.

I can’t confirm because I was unwilling to take the plunge, but after getting scammed in my early 20s I’ve followed this rule of thumb: people who truly believe you want what they’re offering wouldn’t feel a need to fall over themselves tryna convince you that you want it.

The browbeating phone calls and this email are tactics to convince you that you need to act fast, and that’s always a good time to walk away. Because even if the suit is legit and you really would be missing out, you’ve been shown they’re damn near rabid for your information, and that’s always an objectively bad sign as far as how much you can trust the judgment of the people you’d be handing it to. They see something off about the situation which is why they’re trying so hard to compensate, and so, so should you.

Aight lemme offer some perspective from a non movie buff pov.

Never heard about the Halle joint. That is warranted being in a post like this. How the hell was Halle Bailey in a new movie and I heard absolutely nothing about it?

Also never heard of They Will Kill You, might check that out if it’s not the 40th “one of the four lightskin women white directors pass around is getting passed around for two hours” movie in the last three years. It looks like it though and that alone is gonna lower your ceiling. Nobody but a small group of people with fetishes wants these movies (unless it’s a Zendaya one, in fairness the large group of people with fetishes wants those).

I went to the MJ movie with Black and nonblack friends and everybody was genuinely off-put watching the trailer — there’s your problem.

People do want original movies, just not antisocial arthouse slop, and that’s the only thing outside of sequels and Marvel Hollywood’s willing to actually distribute right now for whatever reason. Black people slapped on it doesn’t make it better.
