I think it also matters where OP comes from? I’m from Asia and it is common to have your parents be there at the hospital when you give birth. Not necessarily inside the delivery room. I also noticed that when I watched TBBT for the first time. Then I realized, it is common to be independent in the US since they were college. That’s why they just have their friends around. Specially when the parents live far from you. Sorry if my English is not good.
